Is Eminem the Most Overrated Rapper Ever?
Wait. Stop for a second, let me clarify. Eminem's first 3 albums were brilliant, featuring incredible songs and narritvies driven along by a passion and motivation hardly seen before in hip-hop. His singles career peaked in 2002 with Lose Yourself, a massive worldwide hit that features Em's best opening verse ever, and one of the greatest rhyme schemes ever featured in rap.
But then, he hits a huge decline, Just Lose It is unbelivably annoying and even though it was a sizable hit during its time, I never hear it anymore, and I'm glad. Encore was an awful album and his follow-up, Relapse, was worse. Seriously, Relapse is a horrible album, filled with accents, murder themes, half baked ideas and some of his worst singles to date (Crack a Bottle, We Made You, 3 A.M.). And for some reason, he still is fawned over like a god, constantly being referred to as "real rap" and the "best rapper alive". I cant figure out why, he hasn't made anything worst listening to in years, he is long past his prime, and his last great album came out in 2002. So, I guess my question is, does anyone else think Eminem is as washed up as I do? |
I never really understood why people liked him in the first place.
|
Eminem has technicality on his side nowadays, but that's it, it's completely soulless music. Only his first two albums really work, but only Encore and The Re-Up really suck.
|
I digress, his ability to enunciate worlds rapidly, and his flow is very well honed, but when people go insane over his damn verse on Forever (lame song anyway) it feels undeserved.
|
Kanye's verse was the best of that, his flow on that song is good, but not worth the insanity of people lol.

"cant figure out why, he hasn't made anything worst listening to in years, he is long past his prime, and his last great album came out in 2002"
When was the last time Rakim put out something good? Yet he is still recognized by most other rappers as the best ever. |
I never liked Eminem. His voice is just too damn terrible for me to like.

yeah Ben but then again Rakim was never the pop icon that Em continues to be

And thank god for that, fame heaps on expectations and pressures. Em's lost the motivation that propelled his first 3 albums. Now hes like a zomby, driven only by expectations. |
Em's been going through the motions for a while now. What's his motivation? He's one of the most accomplished artists, he's got plenty of money and he knows that whatever he releases is gonna sell regardless

says the guy that likes lil wayne! i kidd i kidd its basically already been addressed, but EM sucks now because his greatest albums were steeped in Sadness, Hopelessness, depression, White trash-dom, and poverty. he is now rich beyond his wildest dreams has no real reason to feel sad or depressed, since he has accomplished so much. He isnt white trash anyumore living in a trailer, and he certainly isnt hopeless cause a bag of **** with his name on it will sell millions. classic mega successful, uninspired artist. |

i hate lil wayne. |
Lil Wayne is the best thing in hip hop right now, sorta, well he was in 08.
"classic mega successful, uninspired artist.", pretty much. |

No problem dawgie. But yea, Eminem is terrible |
Correction: his last three albums are terrible.
The slim shady lp basically appealed to the widest audience that exists in america, poor white people. I listen to it probably once a week driving. its hilarious, depressing, and skillful. MM LP was his master work, no need to talk about why. the rest suck. D12 had some zingers too |
first D12 had its moments as did Eminem show but SSLP and MMLP were the good ones
|
Marshall Mathers LP appealed to the widest audience in America white trash, some black people, and the general public. Moody songs, crazy songs, guest spots, and that appeal was reflected in its sales. But thats not what I'm here to talk about.
|
Jay Z and Tupac are the most over rated rappers.

probably but they also had some great albums |

Yea, they are uber-overrated. But they're actually good. |
Tupac is okay, I'm really not sure about Jay.
|
Considering Nas is alive, how can people complain about Eminem? Nas hasn't had a good album in about 20 years now. His flow is so basic and he always spits himself into corners; he just speaks nonsense and people love it.
Common is straight **** now, but luckily had Be a couple years ago. He used to spit fire on Can I Borrow A Dollar then started going downhill as an MC when he joined that soul collective. Black Thought ruins every Roots album because he is garbage. |
Common wasn't even good in the new terminator. he had like 4 lines.
|
Common = no thank you. But not overrated because he's not very hyped.
