John Frusciante
Dunno if this was the right place but what they hey.
I am a HUGE Chilis fan, i love Johns work with them. I wanna get at least 1 of his solo albums, so basically, which do people think is his better ones? |
I'm not too big a fan of his stuff, but Shadows Collide With People is a fairly decent album.
|
shadows collide with people is great, but dont expect it to be ANYTHING like the red hot chili peppers. its a completely different direction, different sound, different attitude, different everything.
i love it though. |
I know it won't be like the chilis, but i heard one or two songs on his website *you can listen whilst browsing* and really liked em.
Thanks |
Curtains or The Will to Death are his best albums.
|
I like his solo stuff, almost as much as the Peppers themselves. I downloaded Curtains a while back and I'm really enjoying that.
|
Second Walk is the happiest song in the world.
|
Curtians is so good.
|
I have Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt and theyre both wickedly awesome and uber f.ucked up since he wrote them when he was doing his heroin binges. What a champion.

Isn't it great? I really enjoy that whole album (Shadows Collide With People) - you can't go far wrong there. |

I really enjoy that whole album (Shadows Collide With People) - you can't go far wrong there.
Yeah it's a cool album. I've got one of his electronica albums with Josh Klinghoffer, thats cool for relaxing to. |
I really liked his album Shadows Collide With People, and I didn't really expect to.
|
I love John Frusciante. My fav guitarist. I got most of his stuff. Shadows collide with people is good. my favourite some is lever pulled. its slow and really good. glad to see other Frusciante fans around.
|
His solo stuff is great. I have To Record Only Water for Ten Days and its awesome. Im gonna have to check out Shadows... now.
|
Curtains, definitely, surprisingly brilliant. I really want to check out Shadows Collide With People.
|

Thanks
there's an internet only album on his website to download for free and acuostic versions of songs from shadows collide with people :) when I visited the site the last time at least |
Curtians is so good.
not strictly true, the songs were written over a very long period, stretching back to before he even joined the chilis. |
I have Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt and theyre both wickedly awesome and uber f.ucked up since he wrote them when he was doing his heroin binges. What a champion.
1) Both? It's really just 2 recordings mixed into a single album 2) Wickedly awesome? that's debatable John's definately one of my favorite guitarists and a helluva songwriter, but I think he currently seems to be suffering from Ryan Adams Syndrome ie. quantity over quality. Other than that, To Record Only Water for Ten Days is my favorite of his, followed by Shadows Collide With People |
I've downloaded the ones i could off his site.. Truly awsome :thumb: Thanks everyone
|
Shadows Collide With People is a very good album, but I never really got into Curtains that much...I've got the DC EP on my mp3 player as well, and I really like that as a small collection of songs. His stuff with the Chili Peppers is better than the solo career though. I like every album he's made with the rest of the band a lot.
Curtains is so much better than Shadows. Try listening to it again. |
He wasn't really all that much a heroin addict druing the making of Niandra Lades. Niandra Lades is my favorite of his though.
This is how it'll go in chorno: Niandra Lades & Usually just a T Shirt: Raw, an aquired taste Smile from the Streets you Hold: Even more rawer, still an aquired taste To Record Only Water for Ten Days: Definetly different than the first two, more electronics and drum machine mixed with guitar. Decent vocals. Internet Album: Same as TROWFTD Shadows Collide: Is more produced album and general auidence friendly. Acousitic singer/songwriter like album. The Will to Death. More of a clean electric guitar sounding album, medium tempo rock. DC EP Same as above Ataxia (side project): Awesome album. A little bit of progressive trance like rock music with long on going songs. Inside of Emptiness: A rocking album. Fast going, with a 70's rock guitar style..sorta. A Sphere in the Heart of Silence: Electronic album, but not like techno. It's pretty cool, you'd have to be able to like guitar free music to like this. Since I like a lot of electronic stuff, I thought htis album was pretty sweet. Curtains: An acousitc album. A homey kind of lonely feeling album. Beautiful compositions though, with brilliant vocals and harmonies. And uh, I think that's all of them. |
Lever Pulled is a great song.
|
"Murderers" is one of my favorite songs by him but I like all his stuff post Smile... I'm really not into that stuff.
|
I love his moaningful voice, that's why i like Niandra Lades and Usually Just A Shirt. It's a classic, a must for every Frusciante fan.
Tho Smiles are like Niandra by the way it sounds, it's sometimes painful to listen to it. But i have few favourite songs from this album too. Smile from the streets you hold is my favourite song. From Niandra, I love every song in it. In particular, your p**** s glued to a building on fire, my smile is a rifle, curtains, untitled #11 are perfect. I don't see anything special in Shadows, every average pop-rocker does something like it nowadays. But the less is more, and Niandra rules. |
I a topic about him a few days ago-
I didn't care for his music much when I first heard it, but then I bought Curtains and I really can't get enough of it. I play it almost constantly and love every song on the album. I picked the album at random also, and couldn't have been happier with it. I never got into Peppers much, but I enjoy them quite a bit, need to buy more of their albums... |
I never got into Peppers much, but I enjoy them quite a bit, need to buy more of their albums...
Do you like their more funkier influenced songs or their more softer rock songs? I think i'll ask for Shadows for Christmas and maybe Curtains if my parents are feeling generous (doubt it). Maybe this should turn into a John Frusciante appreciation thread :thumb: |
gday i got all his albums, i reckon shadows collide with people sounds the most like the chili peppers, there is a mix of songs in that album, hard soft and funky, chad and flea even feature in some of the tracks, d load "water", its off that album, it sounds like a chili pepper song... its his most mainstream
but if your after something a bit deeper darker and more ****ed up, go for niandre lades and usually just a t shirt, a lot of it doesn't make sense and was recorded on his 6 track recorder... but its all good ****, most emotional |
I'm not a fan of his solo work, but "Ants" is excellent.
|
I own 3, The DC ep, The Will To Death, and Shadows Collide With Peple
And The DC ep is short, but i really love Dissolve, the bassline is smooth... but if you want a full length, my opinion is Shadows Collide With People Regret is a good tune to the point, he's not using any kinds of allusion he says what it is and thats it, and it altho its a full length song, it works as a good intro to 'Ricky'. |
