Bass solo songs

I'm after some longer bass solo songs. Ones that I can sit and play straight through and actually have it sound like a song without needing other players. Nothing over the top, more along the lines of Anesthesia, Cunning Stunts or even Californication.

Crudd-Bucket™ 09-17-2005 11:51 PM

John Myung - Solar Groove (6 string bass)
Metropolis - Dream Theater (4 string)

Crudd-Bucket™ 09-17-2005 11:51 PM

Oh and Overjoyed by Victor Wooten (tapping)

Crudd-Bucket™ 09-17-2005 11:59 PM

I thought the second GP4 tab on www.mysongbook.com was pretty accurate :p but there was only 1 bit that didn't sound right

I can't seem to ever find a good tab of that song. I've found a few online but they're always wrong.

Did you check www.mysongbook.com or www.powertabs.net ?

Look into Freeport Jam by John Myung, I'll be learning that as soon as I get my 6!

I think that might be a tad hard for him. I've begun learning it from Myungs instructional video. I can't find a good tab anywhere for it aswell. Solar groove is good to learn by Myung if you have the booklet.

Polyamarous 09-18-2005 05:01 AM

My Generation - Thw Who

Open Sky - The Distillers, although this is punk so the rest of the bass in the song sucks.

Well I suppose, but it's a worth attempting!

man, I wish Myung still played Tung basses...and that the luthier hadn't became a restaurant owner instead.

Yeah, someday he said he may go back to making them... such a waste of talent. There were only 100 Tung basses ever made :upset:

nilon 09-18-2005 06:45 AM

You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon sounds good by itself. Also has an actual bass solo in it as well.

Manticore Guy 09-18-2005 11:14 AM
John Myung - Solar Groove (6 string bass)
Metropolis - Dream Theater (4 string)
John Myung has solo work? Can someone elaborate on that?

bwnstl 09-18-2005 11:36 AM

I agree, if Myung has solo work I need to have it.

Worrpigs 09-18-2005 11:57 AM

Jaco pastorius-portrait of tracy. love that song

Are there any tabs of that anywhere? Even if their not 100% correct.
Eh, not very many people read the first post of the thread.

The threadstarter wants bass solos, not songs with bass solos.

tut tut..
Or songs which sound like the actual song with only the bass part.

Another suggestion: Pretty much any Red Hot Chili Peppers song will sound like itself with only the bass. Try and find acoustic Under The Bridge, Flea plays a completely different line to usual and it's amazing and easily servicable as a solo piece.

Aberrationbass 09-18-2005 02:02 PM

Flea owns the Chilis they would suck with out him
Hysteria - Muse
some Billy Sheehan stuff
or Moonlight Sonata - Stu Ham

sk8inbassist17 09-18-2005 02:08 PM

Bulls on parade theres a short easy distorted bass solo in there---RATM
Calm like a bomb bass solo as the intro of the song pretty easy---RATM
Maxwell Murederer very hard very fast bass solo----Rancid
Aeroplane fairly easy solo havent tryed to learn all of it i can play the beging of it but not start to finish of the solo---RHCP

Riouken 09-18-2005 03:02 PM

Bass Solo Songs, not songs containg a bass solo.

Check out Norweigan Wood by Victor Wooten, fairly simple song and fantastic melody I love it. Good cover of the Beatles.

That sucks so much...they are amazing things...I GAS so badly over them, I'd take one over a Fodera!

Az_Holl 10-27-2005 12:44 AM

123 stu hamm is great :thumb:

ive always liked "country music" by the hamm man.

Salvation 10-27-2005 01:16 AM

What would be cool is some real blues styles of song. I downloaded a vid of Wooten playing and it was him in a large group of different musicians, and he played such a cool tune. What would you guys call an easy Wooten song? A slower blues style, I'm not looking to blow people away, just have fun.
PS: What would be cool is if I could play it on my acoustic.
