Since everyone else is doing it, the thread for us poor bassists with **** basses!

yea, this thread is for us musicians who cannot afford elite modulus/musicman/warwick basses, so we settle for low-end pieces of ****. so, post your ****ty bass and show pics if you got em..i have an ibanez gsr200 and to make it sound semi-decent when i record on my pc i have to use several effects such as a small amount of distortion w/ custom tool-like EQ settings. doesn't sound too shabby though for a $200 bass (you can listen to a bunch of my **** on my site at the bottom). i will hopefully be upgrading to a mid-range bass soon (possibly a fender j or p bass) for my birthday or just whenever i have extra money lying around  ..

I have a samick p/j replica that is the biggest peice of shiat i ever played, so i defretted and it feels quite a bit better.

I also own a Cort Curbow 4. :D

Led_Zeppelin678 02-28-2005 02:31 AM

*points and laughs*

-Vietnow- has a Silvertone that he not only defretted, he scalloped the 12th, 9th, 7th, 5th, and 3rd frets. I don't know how that works, but it does.

DeathAngel 02-28-2005 02:33 AM

oh ya, and i also have a fender squier with horrible action that i won't even bother fixing.

Led_Zeppelin678 02-28-2005 02:37 AM

According to him, a file works best. He started out with a serrated knife and cut the hell out of his left thumb on accident.

Poker_Face 02-28-2005 02:42 AM

I also have a Samick, not bad for $200, better then a Squire I think. But I also have Ibanez Sr490.

Monterey Stage Series!!!! It's alright I guess. I've sanded the body down. It was sunburst and covered in stickers.

kilian 02-28-2005 03:34 AM

^^ HUH

Am I crazy or does it have only a volume and a output?

good rats 02-28-2005 03:43 AM

2 volume and a tone, haha, I'm just missing some knobs. My tone knob is on my bridge pup volume pot thingymabob. And i have no tone knob cause thats all been smashed. If you really wanna know the story of how it all broke, just ask. I cant be bothered typing it out if no one will read.

kilian 02-28-2005 03:49 AM

Now I want to know :D

I check out if we have some food left around here and when I come back with/without food I will read the story

good rats 02-28-2005 03:55 AM

Well one day i was playing bass outside, and my dogs started to fight. Like really rip into each other, so I tried to break it up. My bass swung around and hung like, behind my arse. So as i was fighting the dogs off each other, one of them fell into me, and i fell over. My bass was under my ***, my bass made bad contact with the concrete, my 80kg *** made contact with my bass that was on the concrete. And bang, knobs all cracked except for one. It wasn't pretty. I ordered knobs from Billy Hydes, (myl\ local music store) about 2 months ago, and they still haven't come in.

Well that was my story, ain't that interesting. Sorry for wasting yur time. :thumb:

kilian 02-28-2005 04:06 AM

OUCH

Dogs.. hehe
I think you should go to the music store and be a bit mad at him or something like that, I mean: two months?

good rats 02-28-2005 04:29 AM

Yea, I'll go back this weekend, if they don't have em then, I'll ask for my money back. Go elsewhere to get some knobs.

Thumb_bass 02-28-2005 07:44 AM

I have an ESP B-50. It's a good bass, but mines all facked up. I've had it for 3 years, it's still my first bass. :upset:

bassist-bmxer 02-28-2005 08:01 AM

All my basses cost under £200 so i guess i fit in this thread :p

I just like buying basses for cheap, but sometimes you can find some really good equiment for cheap, like the neck on my westfield jazz is one of the best necks i have ever played!

And its unbelievable how much growl my stagg has.

fatwreckpunk 02-28-2005 08:11 AM

I had a encore p bass for a joke and we used an electric saw to make it into a flying v and all this weird stuff

My *** is broke, I got bills and dont paid enough at my current job to afford musicmans, sadowskys, etc.

I play old school Peavey basses, the ones that were made in USA. They started making basses in 1978, its the older the better as far as quality goes. The one I use as my main bass now is an '84 Fury. Tone is almost identical to a fender P-bass, pickup is pretty hot for a passive. Super reliable basses, though. Dirt cheap on Ebay, this one cost me $150...for made in usa at that.

Tanglewoods are complete rubbish. I had a squire p-bass and i got fed up of cheapness so i bought a fender usa jazz bass and a dan electro dc bass shortly after that. :thumb:

I'm clueless with that stuff.
