She might like Dream Theater, James Labrie has an operatic style of singing and they have an amazing keyboardist as well.

the band "Muse" has great piano

captivatedbyhim 11-02-2004 12:15 AM

Listen to Queen, they are possibly the most piano oriented rock band ever. Listen to like Don't Stop Me Now, or Somebody to Love- although Bohiemian Rapsody is a good piano part, i disagree (if your looking for rock) becuase at the time in the song when Freddie used the piano, it wasn't really rock, it's more of a ballad. Don't Stop Me Now is a really great rock tune, and the whole song features the piano. If you wanna get these songs, i suggest just picking up a greatest hits album, cuase there are a lot them, and they cover the varitey of Queen pretty well, and if she likes them pick up some actual albums, you won't be disapointed.

RadKeysPlayer 11-02-2004 12:15 AM

Baba O'Reilly by The Who was originally done on piano.

If you're into lighter fare, Elton John has a legion of them, such as Crocodile Rock, and Saturday's All Right For Fighting, plus the next song after Funeral For a Friend.

Along similar lines of rock n roll piano talent is Billy Joel. Brian Wilson is the original genius and keyboardist of the Beach Boys. My favourite of his will always be Good Vibrations.

If it's your thing, check out any of Christine McVie's work in Fleetwood Mac. She and husband John, Mick Fleetwood, and Peter Green were the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac years before they found Bob Welch, followed by the almost-starving American couple, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Paul McCartney played quite a few good slow rock songs on piano: Hey Jude, Let It Be, and Lady Madonna. Their buddy, Billy Preston, played a lot of their faster songs.

Tori Amos is the quintessential queen of piano. I recommend you check her out.

Course, there is the original Rock Piano Master: Jerry Lee Lewis. Anything he did was great. Let's not forget Little Richard, a major inspiration for Paul McCartney and Jimi Hendrix.

Also I recommend you check out Leon Russell. He was the pianoman for Joe Cocker -- and a helluva songwriter -- before touring on his own. I saw the man twice: in a huge arena in 1972 and a couple meters in front of me in a small lounge fifteen years later, with Edgar Winter. Fantastic.

For heavy blues, I recommend Muddy Waters' Mannish Boy. He did an awesome version of it live on The Band's Last Waltz film and record. Joe Perkins provided the piano.

The keyboards on Emerson, Lake, & Palmer were far-out, absolutely. I was at a concert of theirs in which they channelled their sounds through four giant, 7 or 8 feet stacks of speakers at the four outer corners of the arena. When that guy hammered on his keyboards, our minds were gone. Try the album with the skull on it.

Ritchie Blackmore, of Deep Purple, is probably one of a handful of the greatest lead guitarists on the planet. However, his keyboardist, Jon Lord, is a madman. Anything this great band did was fine, and, yes, if you're into them, you'll probably hear Machine Head, but do have a listen to their previous album with the Hieronymus Bosch paintings. Their version of Donovan's Lalena could even send Donovan into a mind-spin.

Probably my favourite rock keyboardist of all time is Rick Wakeman of the band Yes. You've gotta listen to his album Journey to the Center of the Earth, which I still find myself singing and quoting. Not to mention the six wives of Henry the Eighth. And of course, listen to any song of Yes' on the albums Fragile and Yessongs. Nobody compares to this man, in my opinion, nobody. I had the privilege and pleasure of seeing him in concert with Yes twice. Ahhhh!

I hope any of this helps.

Cheers, from Ruth who used to be a keyboardist before maiming her hand. :amaze:

Definitately Jerry Lee Lewis for some rockin'. Jon Lord of Deep Purple and the fellow from Dream Theater are awsome as well.

1st of all, tell your sis to quit evanecense. ((i'm sure pple agree with me, especially their guitarist(hu's teacyher is kirk hammet) already quited))

Back to ur question, if your sis like rock songs with piano, try lynyrd skynyrd. they always have piano solos on the music. although "freebird" doesn't hav, the live version sure has. keep in mind they have a full-time pianist, billy powell. they have lots of piano.

or for keyboard solos, try deep purple.

hope this is helpful ;)

 Oh she'll love that. To clarify, do you want more pop-rock like Evanescance or something metal or classic rock because I'm not sure she'd like something like Queen or Elton John.

Yeah, that seems real helpful. Tell her not to listen to what she likes then recommend bands she obviously won't like.

Your sister is obviously into happier sounding stuff...she'd probably like Linkin Park, some of their songs use a piano. Lacuna Coil is a little similar to Evanescence, although they're much better. Coldplay, Muse, and Radiohead were already recommended but I second that.

Somebody said Tori Amos as well, she 0wns, but it may be a little melancholy for your sister.
