Local Bands

What are some bands from your area that are getting you excited at the moment? Preferably, please list bands that have music recorded online so that we can all join in on the discussion instead of just live show anecdotes (though those are fine too!)

some buddies of mine. even though i'm biased by friendship, i still think they're one of the freshest sounding bands in hardcore as of this time

Melodic hardcore band that's really heavily influenced by Sargeist:
https://www.facebook.com/maylamusic

Really epic metalcore band:
https://www.facebook.com/sacredserenitypa

Epic ass post rock/black metal (recording this week):
https://www.facebook.com/bastardthieves

These are all my damies, like Hep Kat, I'm mad biased due to friendship.

whiteminority 08-21-2012 11:05 AM

hardcore that's influenced by Sargeist? wut

witchxrapist 08-21-2012 12:39 PM

Their guitarist basically said he had no clue what "melodic hardcore" was when the original bassist approached him about the band, so he just thought of Sargeist style riffs and played them in a hardcore structured manner.

whiteminority 08-21-2012 01:03 PM

hmm, that's a novel approach that's pretty cool.

witchxrapist 08-21-2012 01:14 PM

Dude's an amazing guitarist.

Here some of his old projekts (same drummer in both):

tech death (vocalist was a total loser)
don't ever show me tech death bands again, or i will never trust your opinion again.
well the point was more that he can play any style he damn well pleases

and i did vox in dat tech death band :(

whiteminority 08-21-2012 03:18 PM

sorry no thanks for me. i don't care about shit getting crazy in death metal, i'd rather listen to the tried and true formula of super fucking fast blasts, mid-tempo evilness, and crushingly murderous slam grooves.

suspect device 08-21-2012 03:19 PM

Not all Buffalo bands, but one of my favorite local labels just put up a bandcamp page. They've only put up a handful of releases, but there is a lot of good stuff, and there should be more to come. Everything is free / pay-what-you-want. Check it out.

Velcro Hooks: From England--postpunk slacker shoegaze with dizzying reviews:

https://soundcloud.com/velcrohooks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlPjCweJzCM

Sampling & Reviews: Velcro Hooks (Bristol, UK: Howling Owl Records):

“Prepare to be hooked by these stunning new Bristol rockers, who mix ferocious Pixies-style grunge with Jenner Blank’s unique wildman delivery. Chaotic, insane, dangerous and utterly brilliant—you’ll be stuck to Velcro after one listen. 10/10.” —The Daily Star (London)

“Heavy and hectic, but deeply melodic, ‘Gymnophoria’ is a triumph for the kick-started UK alternative scene. One of the debuts of the year . . . seven tracks of blistering post-punk indie, grungy noise pop and borderline post hardcore. 5/5” —AAA Music

“Let me tell you this right now: If Velcro Hooks were American they would already be massive . . . the perfect mix of melodies, hooks, edge, quirk, snarl and swagger which they serve up on a thin plate that teeters dangerously on the line between the perfect rock’n’roll song and utter, shambolic chaos. Velcro Hooks are the buzz band in Bristol right now and are something of a find . . .” —Listen With Monger
