I really like some of the riffs on both Beg and Whisper, I don't think they lost the ability it's just different.

This new Thurisaz album could be better in a lot of ways. shucks.

How so? I really enjoyed it... |
Synth-strings sound really melodramatic and cheesy. If they would get a thicker/more realistic sound or replaced the synth with guitar it would be way better. Or they should just be used less.
The clean vocals are also pretty lame, especially when they're mixed with the growling. I usually don't like the dual rasp/growl thing either. |
Ehh, I think it fits fine, but I see what you're saying.
|
"Guys I think we need keyboard in every song. It means we're super serious and emotional."

How about "guys the keyboard is an instrument, let's use it as such" |
lol
|
Garden of Shadows is some good keyboarded death metal.
|
Keyboards don't belong in death metal, unless it's blackened death metal, IMO.
|
It's not really that they don't belong, just that no bands know how to use them properly.

Truth
I also don't like the dual rasp/growl thing.
Are you talking about layering highs over lows? It's so orgasmic when a good vocalist does that. :/ |
I guess to me, it's just that "death metal" is supposed to be brutal. Keyboards don't exactly communicate brutality.
|
One word.
Nocturnus. Now die. |

Death metal, like most other music, can and should communicate many different feelings and emotions. |

I think a lot of bands can pull it off, and if a band can't pull it off, they fail.
|
Depresy is a good example of really great death metal that also incorporates keyboards.
|
Depresy sounds like a newly evolved pokemans.
|
The Faceless have THA BRUTALIST keyboardz.
|
I'm listening to Capharnaum and the Suecof brothers are so good.
|
That reminds me of a convo I had with my one friend last night:
Me: the one dude from Capharnaum is in a wheelchair Ross: that's because Matt Heafy's voice is so brutal it shattered his spine But yeah, the Suecoff brothers are freaking talented as hell. |
hahaha
Heafy isn't even that bad on this album. I mean he's not that good but you barely notice him. |
I think his vocals sound raw as hell and fit really well tbh.
I actually kinda like Heafy's screaming at some points. |
But the guitar leads are just so catchy man. It's no wonder Suecof has to solo on every album he produces since I mean he's good at it.
|
Yeah, he's very very good, especially for a dude in a wheelchair.
|
I love how the last bit of Refusal is Capharnaum playing Meshuggah better than Meshuggah plays Meshuggah.
Meshuggah. |
Meshuggah sounds like A Life Once Lost.
Perpetuate Catatonia's the best song on Fractured, or Icon Malice... one of those two. Actually, Reins Of Humanity too. |
I hate Meshuggah.
|
Their old stuff is alright, and they're really good live.
/used to be huge into Meshuggah. |
