Hackintosh?

You can possibly install OSX on your PC if you have the right hardware components or something. I really don't know much about it.

foxwood 11-03-2009 10:40 AM

Don't install OS X on your regular PC, better off waiting and saving up for a Mac. The pirated version can damage your computer.

For those who play music, you should check out this contest at www.bethewonder.com (http://www.bethewonder.com). You just submit a cover of their song and if you win, you get a prize worth $25,000. You get new equipment, studio time and your song in a commercial. I think definitely worth checking out.
Ok good, I guess. I do have a serious question for all you guys here though. I do music technology at my college full time right and the main DAW that they teach in is Logic and based on my research, all previous versions of Logic that ran on Windows have been discontinued? My question is without having to buy an Apple Mac, which quite frankly at the moment I simply cannot afford, how would I best go about familiarising myself with Logic outside of classes?
There's a fair few youtube walkthroughs so you can at least get acquainted with the aesthetics and mechanics of it.

Hi everyone new here

Ladies and gentlemen, i am conducting a survey regarding a new piece of equipment being developed with the musician in mind.

We want to find out what the people want. if you're interested in doing the survey and contributing to the development of a very powerful new tool, called the 1MB (the 1 Man Band), please help us.

it's a drum machine, sampler, and real-time fx processor with a hi-def mic that can interface with any instrument. we want to turn any musician who plays any instrument into a one man powerhouse.

please help us tweak the design of our product!

Hey im Adam. I am 15 and i play the guitar and the piano. I have been playing piano for 9 years and guitar for only 1. Glad to join the community!

Kwote 11-25-2009 12:05 AM

I'm Kwote. Started djing in 96, scratching since 97, production(beats/tracks) since 2002, started messing with synths in 2007 and guitar & bass this year. Just love music so much and working on my first official solo album right now.

Aaron 11-25-2009 03:19 AM

Welcome :)

SquirtleSquad 11-27-2009 10:47 AM

I'm Andrew, I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now. I'm heavily into technical music. Due to lack of musicians in the town I'm in, I basically write everything, which means I'm proficient at writing good drums/bass/rhythm/lead/vox. Tabs are lots of fun.

Jam session

Hello everybody!
I like to play the guitar at jam sessions.
:chug:

keyboardologist 12-14-2009 09:44 AM

Hey all, I'm new here, and I am a halfast keyboard player. I play a Kurzweil PC1x keyboard through a Roland KC300 amp.

Cramboli 12-14-2009 02:56 PM

Welcome to the Jam Session...

Is there a particular section on this board where I could possibly talk with other musicians who're looking for a band/band mate?

Fuff24 12-20-2009 12:31 PM

Name's Fuff. I scratch mix and produce, as well as playing some boring classical instruments. I'm also slowly learning to play bass.
Is there a particular section on this board where I could possibly talk with other musicians who're looking for a band/band mate?
Back in the hayday there used to be a section specifically for that and sale of equipment but that got abused so they've had to remove it... Depending on what instrument your looking for you can go into the respective forum(s) and ask for locals to your area, Just ignore any rude/off topic comments you get, most of them are regulars who are just poking fun for these forums are sorely lacking and everyone's trying there best to liven it up even if it's unconventional and some are just plain rude... Avoid the COMMUNITY forums with this question for that reason you can try but I can't vouch for any activity that may partake in that general locale...

Welcome to Sputnik I hope you stick around and become a regular, if not a weekly...

I'd love to become a regular. I've been singing for about seven years, and have only recently taken up piano and rhythm guitar. I'll probably inquire when the time is right, and I've gotten a feel of how this community is flowing. :p

ShameInYou 12-21-2009 02:40 PM

Hello. :) By the way.. There's no PM system or anything like that? That's kind of inconvenient, don't you think? lol

Cramboli 12-21-2009 10:02 PM

Alright I'm not too sure on this hence why I didn't start a thread... The question is are there high end Laptop speakers that can suffice for good outboard speakers obviously not for monitors, I've had someone for the last few days trying to tell me that there are and most laptops come stock with them... I personally think he's crazy because my laptop speakers suck if not blown from low music, they don't get that loud I've tried cranking them before but it doesn't get any louder then headphones off to the side...

Seafroggys 12-22-2009 12:32 AM

no, I can't see laptop speakers ever being that good. Unless you get some really high end ribbon speakers, but in that case you're looking at speakers that cost as much as the laptop itself.

Cramboli 12-22-2009 12:37 AM

That's exactly what I've been trying to say, but my main question is, is there another way I can portray this to him without having to resorting to mindless violence? Oh and proof of concept doesn't work, it just turns into well that's because that laptop sucks or you don't have the volume up or some other mindless excuse... Don't get me wrong it was funny at first but now it's annoying, Can't avoid him either it's a roommate issue...

ShameInYou 12-23-2009 09:08 PM

There's no way for you to contact the service provider for the domain or the past admin and gain control? Not a big deal to me, but it might be a good idea to (eventually) check that out. lol

Seafroggys 12-23-2009 09:40 PM

I thought Wish was the new admin, or is it technically still mx?

Meatplow 12-24-2009 01:43 PM

a PM system here would be cool

Merry Christmas Jam Session

Chlojawn 01-03-2010 06:52 PM

Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a sick show for my birthday- January 21st is the actual date but that is on a Thursday so that Friday (january 22nd) or Saturday (jan. 23) would be awesome. Already ruled out Thievery Corporation sold out and craigslist is too expensive.. I live in Philly but i'm willing to make it to New York, D.C., Baltimore, NJ, Help me out!
Any suggestions?!

Cramboli 01-08-2010 04:51 PM

Anyone everthink that there should be a loophole when you see products online with some other product in there and it neither says that the extra product comes with it or without it? ex. My Alesis usb monitors have a laptop in the picture and on the site I purchased them from didn't say anything about the laptop not being sold with said item.

So it'd be like if you see a pair of Headphones in with a headphone splitter but there only selling the spliter yet there still is no fine print that says "headphones not included" yes most places state that but should I be able to get away with "demanding" that extra item?

Seafroggys 01-08-2010 05:55 PM

Seeing as I work in retail, they'd just tell you to **** off, although much more nicely ;)

Cramboli 01-08-2010 06:28 PM

I'm just sayin it's not like they are specific about what's coming with the item...

RouteOne 02-08-2010 07:37 PM

didn't want to start a thread, so

My friend an I are recording some lo-fi stuff soon. We are on a low budget, so would a 4 track with us just playing into a microphone work in order to get a nice lo-fi effect?

I know next to nothing about recording, so be gentle. ;)

Aaron 02-08-2010 08:14 PM

Yes'm.

lc1288 02-09-2010 05:39 AM

just wondering if anyone can help me find the best rehearsal & recording prices in london?

also looking for band mates too, single track recordings available upon request.

cheers.
