no, I meant I certainly hope that you calling Overkill crap was a joke.
I was 15 or 16 when I first heard Evil Never Dies. Shocking experience. Same with Kreator's Ripping Corpse. And Sadus's Certain Death :)

Dimmu Burger 07-28-2007 09:50 AM

Man, I thought Despised Icon was gonna be good, and it ended up having like 6 metalcore breakdowns in every song. Are there people out there who actually still like generic breakdowns? Cause bands certainly think that they are freakin great.

masscows 07-28-2007 10:53 AM

Yeah I can't stand that band.

VomitStainedCretin 07-28-2007 11:47 AM
Are there people out there who actually still like generic breakdowns?
White trash who wantz sum beatdown time. And for bands it's an excuse not to write any decent intermediate connecting riffs and increases their appeal to aforementioned white trash.

a_girl_brushed_red_x 07-28-2007 12:21 PM

I like breakdowns, but normally if they're actually good.

Tyler 07-28-2007 12:22 PM

Breakdowns are great if you can't tell when they'll happen. Most these new breakdown oriented bands write songs around their breakdowns and not vice versa, so it's easy to predict when one'll come the second the song starts

a_girl_brushed_red_x 07-28-2007 12:22 PM

Example of an awesome breakdown, the first breakdown in Beneath Dying Skies by Through The Eyes Of The Dead.

rattlehead42147 07-28-2007 12:24 PM

i hate most metalcore but for some reason i cant help liking lamb of god, and the bridge (i refuse to call it a breakdown) in hourglass around the 2 minute mark is pretty cool

i agree completely

LifeInABox 07-28-2007 12:24 PM

That's my favorite song on that album.

LoG isn't Metalcore.

breakdowns are bridges.

UpperDecker 07-28-2007 12:45 PM

What does everyone think of Altars of Madness by Morbid Angel? Besides None So Vile, its probably my 2nd favorite death metal album.

LifeInABox 07-28-2007 12:53 PM

I don't have that yet! I was going to get it, but I got Left Hand Path instead. How good is Clandestine?

Tyler 07-28-2007 12:54 PM
Candlestine
Clandestine is solid.

LifeInABox 07-28-2007 12:57 PM

Edited Coke. No need for bolding over a type-o.

a_girl_brushed_red_x 07-28-2007 01:07 PM

Lot's of need.

Altars of Madness is great. Abominations of Desolation is better though.

Breakdowns = stupid core garbage.

What's with all the Overkill bashing? They were one of the most consistent thrash bands.

LifeInABox 07-28-2007 04:54 PM

Slayer was too, but made higher quality music.

Tyler 07-28-2007 05:49 PM
Slayer was too, but made higher quality music.
Slayer has made consistently lame music, ranging from average to hilarious.
Breakdowns = stupid core garbage.
well, now yeah. but there's more to breakdowns than lame chug-chug half-time bullshit.

Actually, 99.9% of the time, it is.

Shred Danson 07-28-2007 06:17 PM

Unrivaled, you say?

I don't even like the term, when ever someone says "breakdown" I cringe.

Half of the time I expect them to follow up with something equally as stupid like "Yo, phat beats dawg"

Dargon 07-28-2007 07:07 PM

you have no business in metal.

HPB: Altars of Madness is essential, Clandestine is not. Get Altars first.

Deth 07-28-2007 07:12 PM

Altars is just about perfect. The opening riff of Maze of Torment = \m/

i love when people get so offended when slayer gets bashed. slayer is a great band, but theyre ****ing overrated just like metallica. after SITA they died to me.

kiddies see one guy bashing Slayer and they all latch onto that to try and seem more elite. Show No Mercy is perhaps the greatest 80s metal album of all time, nothing will ever change that. All Slayer after RiB can **** off, but SNM will still be hailed just as much 200 years from now as it is today.

FatalEnergy 07-28-2007 08:25 PM

Hell Awaits is actually my favorite. That album has a certain atmosphere that many albums wish it had.

Dargon 07-28-2007 08:30 PM

yeah Hell Awaits is just barely below SNM. It sounds more evil than any of these faggots pretending to be Darkthrone in 1992.

TojesDolan 07-28-2007 08:39 PM

The devil scale must have been very effective in the eighties!
