IMO The Chronic> Enter Wu-Tang >> Illmatic

Illmatic 08-21-2005 01:53 PM

My ten fave albums:

10. 2001, Dr. Dre
9. Ready to Die, The Notorious B.I.G.
8. Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy
7. Paid in Full, Eric B. and Rakim
6. The Chronic, Dr. Dre
5. Straight Outta Compton, N.W.A
4. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Wu-Tang Clan
3. Me Against the World, 2Pac
2. It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Public Enemy
1. Illmatic, Nas

That was pretty tough...there are about 15-20 other albums I could substitute in there on a whim.
10. 2001, Dr. Dre
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed that record. Everyone seems to underrate it in my opinion.

It was the first, and to date only, new release that I got really excited about.

I was 13 when it came out, waited for months for it to come out. It came out in November '99, on I think a Tuesday or a Wednesday, and after school I ran (yes, ran) all the way to the CD store at the mall (I forget what it's called, I think it was Strawberries, but it's no longer at that mall) to buy it. For a few months it was practically the only album I listened to...I used to know it all word-for-word. I've cooled off on it since then, but listening to it now it's still a damn good album.

LF96 08-22-2005 05:39 AM

Some of my favourite hiphop-albums (in no particular order):

Nas - Illmatic
Wu-tang Clan - Enter The Wu-tang (36 chambers)
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Black Star - Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star
Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow
RJD2 - Deadringer (instrumental, yes, but still hiphop)
Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation...
Common - Resurrection
The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??!

Those are the ones I can think of right now.

Iai 08-23-2005 05:19 PM

1. Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions....
2. Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
3. De La Soul - 3 Feet High & Rising
4. Eric B & Rakim - Paid in Full
5. Public Enemy - Fear Of A Black Planet
6. Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
7. Organized Konfusion - self-titled
8. Nas - Illmatic
9. Black Star - Black Star
10. Dead Prez - Let's Get Free

Not including hip-hop-based-but-not-quite-hip-hop acts like DJ Shadow.

That was harder than I thought. Immortal Tech's second album would be in there if it weren't for Obnoxious.

Robert Crumb 08-23-2005 05:58 PM

Right now, my faves might go...

Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation...
Eric B. and Rakim - Paid in Full
Ultramagnetic MCs - Critical Beatdown
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Gang Starr - Daily Operation
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
Wu-tang Clan - Enter The Wu-tang (36 Chambers)
Outkast - Aquemini

In no particular order. Plenty of other notables.

Happymeal 08-23-2005 06:24 PM

It would be better on AIM. It takes me forever to upload on YSI =/

If not I'll try to get it up by tonight.

Jam2Me 08-23-2005 07:00 PM

Anyone here read the article in Time Magazine? It's all about hip hop, Kanye is on the cover, I'd suggest you all go out and buy it if it's not delivered to your house.

LF96 08-24-2005 05:27 AM

Can't believe I forgot De La Soul's 3 Feet High And Rising, definitely one of my favourite albums. Stakes Is High and De La Soul Is Dead are really great too tho, I don't know which one I like best. De La Soul is niceness.
Y'all heard their latest album The Grind Date? One of the best albums of 2004 imo.

Illmatic 08-24-2005 04:01 PM

I saw Del + Heiroglyphics in concert, but Del only did 4 songs :upset:

The rest of the time he was doing the robot, playing gameboy, or drinking vitamin water.

Ganondorf 08-26-2005 02:34 AM

Outkast - Aquemini
Mos Def - The New Danger
my top 10 would be as follows:

8) Wyclef Jean- The Carnival
That's the only Clef album I haven't got. How's it compare to his later stuff? Especially The Elcleftic, because that's a minor masterpiece in my eyes.

Wannabebassplayer 08-30-2005 09:17 AM

Anyone got Kanye Wests new album yet? I just got it, and tbh I dont think it is as good as his first. I love Gold Digger though - really catchy song.

Endless Obsession 08-30-2005 01:39 PM
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed that record. Everyone seems to underrate it in my opinion.
Haha I remember when that came out and Dre had his face in the bag of weed, i was only like 10 or 11 and I had no clue what it was. Then I realized and realized it was aweosme.

Iai 08-30-2005 02:37 PM

I used to loop Xplosive for hours.

Ganondorf 09-01-2005 04:32 AM

Doggy style before i go out
Until they sign my death certificate
All eyez on me
Anyone heard the song K-OS - The Man I Used To Be?
Just saw it on television, nice video (except for the end). The song itself is nice, but I think K-Os has better songs (The Love Song for example). :)

3rdplanet 09-01-2005 10:56 AM
Sage is indeed great. What album(s) do you have?
I only have A Healthy Distrust but I really like it.

The song 'Ride; on there is pretty good

b0mbs_of_death 09-03-2005 03:35 PM

That Non-Prophets record is the best Sage record in my opinion.

Check out One Be Lo too.
