yeah, i welcome pretty much every recommendation... got into hiphop a ton over the past year or two and have been trying to beef up the sputnik hiphop reviews section. Check some of my ratings on the review site... really into progressive production styles (el-p, madlib, bsbd) and i'm more of a beats guy than mc. of course, a bad mc can def ruin it for me. i've heard a majority of the popular ug stuff (co-flow rocks btw).
razah's ladder is really tight, but ive been really diggin on Gutta - "Heads Will Roll" lately. BSBD produced everything but the first track, and all of their beats are killer... too bad it's not cohesive in the slightest. it's as if bsbd made all the beats then threw them at gutta and said "peace". this bsbd and grae is solid so far... although i read somewhere that grae is really pissed off about it (since it's a remix of jeanius). grae's pretty much the only femme rapper that's okay imo. |
haha funny you mention hiphopdx. its a good site
not at all. they overrate shitty underground rappers or faggy backpackers |
Anyone mess with Yelawolf, Holyweerd, or Grip Plyaz?
Interesting **** coming out of Georgia. |
hip-hop dx is excellent for streaming the latest singles and the hilarious comments that ensue.
|
Comments on their reviews are always, let's say, a bit less intelligent than commentary on the sputnik reviews site.

Have any of you guys heard Blu & Exile's album Below the Heavens? He's only 22 and is easily one of the best up and coming MCs.
|

Six tracks in, and Wu-Tang Forever is boring.
|
Do good rap/hiphop double disc albums even exist?
|
so a while ago i saw beast open for a local band, and they were amazing live. recordings are okay but nothing near what they were live. check them out maybe. and if they come near you please go see them. honestly the best band i've seen.

Yeah... great stuff. If you like that, check out Blu and Mainframe's latest joint... "Johnson & Jonson" I believe. I think I like it better than Below the Heavens. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_Kingz the second disc has some crappier songs but it's still pretty good. |
Life After Death, All Eyez On Me, SpeakerBoxx/Love Below
There's probably more |
Life After Death, All Eyez On Me, SpeakerBoxx/Love Below There's probably more
Haven't heard the first. The last two are cases of overkill for me. A few great songs, a lot of filler. |
new Black Milk is sick.
Yes, and he's definitely the second best underground producer right now -- his work on the new Elzhi and Guilty Simpson is pretty tight. Which brings me to the interesting question... who do you guys think are your top 3 favorites (production) right now: I'm thinking: 1 - El-P 2 - Black Milk\ Madlib With an honorable mention for Blue Sky Black Death. |
i don't think it is even a question.
the quality and quantity of Madlib is untouchable. |

He's definitely awesome... I just like El-P's style better. Probably partial too, as he was the first progressive hiphop I ever got into.
|
i'm not saying Madlib has the best records.
he just is seriously such a dynamic and interesting producer that to say anyone is more talent than him is just foolish. |
Madlib is really boring, I don't get the lovefest with him. He never gets a groove and it leaves the MC's sounding flat.
|

this isn't a groove? |
It's one of the most boring beats I've ever heard. Nothing happens in it. It's not as bad as his Madvillain stuff though.
