BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-17-2008 10:49 AM

When I listen to Kanye I usually (not always) try to block out the vocals because behind all the lines like "I'm like a fly Malcom X, buy any jeans necessary" you can find some of the best and most innovative music in Hip Hop today. The guy is not afraid to blend almost any kind of music into his songs, he's spurring a revolution of creativity that is in-turn making it more accessible for guys like Lupe Fiasco to make it mainstream. You can point your finger and criticize him for all the controversies and all the half assed lyrics but me, I'm going to applaud Kanye West on being a man who isn't afraid to take a chance, a man who deserves to be respected, a man who's putting out some of the best music in Hip Hop today. I'm sick of seeing people bad mouth Kanye, he deserves more respect.

I'm seeing him with Lupe Fiasco on May 2nd too..... :D

Iai 03-17-2008 11:24 AM

Dude, that line is gold. Easily the best on that album.

Organized Konfusion is probably my favorite hip-hop act ever. Check em out if you haven't. Best lyrics i've heard in hip-hop, and among the best in general imho.

That line is pretty awesome if you ask me...

Iai 03-17-2008 03:34 PM

Organized Konfusion are awesome, yes.

At least that line shows some kind of wit and imagination, which is more than can be said of every other lyric on Graduation. Also, it's not as bad as 'I'm afraid of a ghost/It's the sight that I fear most/I'd rather have a piece of toast'.

Interstate 03-17-2008 03:38 PM

Just downloading some Jeru The Damaja after I was in a bar & they were playing it through the speakers. My mate told me who it was & told me to download Wrath Of The Math. I've been wanting to get an album for ages I just never got round to it.

What do it take to be a legend like Nas is?

Never heard of the guy. Give us a representative tune or a decent description of his sound and I'll try and help you out.

Incidentally, "Hip-Hop" by Dead Prez has the sweetest bassline ever (at least this week).

Jesus those Mickey Avalon tracks are horrible. Sounds like a crappy male version of Princess Superstar, so I'd recommend her I guess.

**** they are racist.
MDIZZ shouted
# BadMeetsEvil19 (Saturday 15 March 2008) Send a Private Message to BadMeetsEvil19

I don't think they're racist, but using racial slurs in order to get their message across is just a bad idea in my opinion. Imagine Eminem or Aesop Rock using the N word to get their message across...
BadMeetsEvil19 shouted
# dgk3188 (Friday 14 March 2008) Send a Private Message to dgk3188

just shut up and listen to the music
dgk3188 shouted
# lchaykin (Thursday 13 March 2008) Send a Private Message to lchaykin

if they want to blame politicians/bastards why don't they just say so? instead of sounding like more racist than the (white) people who caused them to make the songs in the first place. I don't want to sound like a music snob, I actually like few of their songs. But now I'm gonna go and listen to some music with my (black and white) friends =)
lchaykin shouted
# lchaykin (Thursday 13 March 2008) Send a Private Message to lchaykin

And to contribute to this bs, it doesn't make much sense to me that 'they are not racist' but they "blame THE WHITE MAN" or "the cracker". It's like saying there's nothing racist "blaming THE BLACK MAN" or "the ******" for something. I have a feeling they didn't think about it before they noticed their fan base also consist of white people. I'm not sure about their ideology but
lchaykin shouted
# kanekurupt (Thursday 13 March 2008) Send a Private Message to kanekurupt

Hobbsilla, what the ****? So cause I'm white, that means its my fault for what my ancestors did? Thats like saying if my dad shot your dad, that gives you a to shoot me. Oh and white people put black people into slavery? Shame on whites. Guess what? Shame on the africans too cause there ancestors sold black people to the whites. But thats the "sins of our fathers", right?

# scaar (Tuesday 11 March 2008) Send a Private Message to scaar

It's clearly that you people calling 'em racists havent listened to the lyrics or to interviews.. What you don't (want?) to understand is theyre blaiming the WHITE MAN (read politicians, lobbyists etc) not the white people living side by side with blacks , sometimes under the same oppression as the blacks.. And if they were racists why would they have white people by their side in their music vide
scaar shouted

I just met them before and after a show tonight with a lot of my friends (most of us white because we live in a super-white community) and they didn't have any problem with us. One of them (I can't remember who) gave us his card so we can interview them on pirate radio sometime. During the show they even gave a shout-out to all the whites in the crowd who were down to organize and change ****.
anarcho_atlatl shouted
# Hobbsilla (Thursday 28 February 2008) Send a Private Message to Hobbsilla

I will say though no matter how much they advocate for reparations there is no way it'll work out. It would be a nightmare to figure out how much money each person would get, who would be eligible and where the money would come from. Its not as easy as just handing out money. Plus handing out money to people does not mean you admit fault, feel guilty or take responsiblity for your wrong doings.
Hobbsilla shouted
# Hobbsilla (Thursday 28 February 2008) Send a Private Message to Hobbsilla

Naw Dead Prez could call me a cracka every day of the week for the rest of my life and I would be fine with that. I need to be reminded that I'm Caucasian and the ****ed up **** that my ancestors have done over the last thousand years. Part of the privilege of being white is that you forget that you are or its not on your mind most days of the week.
Hobbsilla shouted
# kanekurupt (Sunday 24 February 2008) Send a Private Message to kanekurupt

Being racist to get a equality/non-racist message across does not make sense to me.

in punk music they say extreme **** to just get the message across so i think its similar when dead prez say racial **** in there music...i dont think there racist tho but pissed off at the system...i could be wrong, either way dead prez rules
Darkness51986 shouted
# majorwaves (Monday 18 February 2008) Send a Private Message to majorwaves

dead prez definitely shows some racism (with different reasons and less extremity) but for the most part dead prez fans don't hate white people, **** alot of them are white people. I don't think a black kid is too safe at some nazi show while I doubt a white kid is anything more than uncomfortable at a dead prez show. eh?

reggaeuplifts 03-20-2008 03:05 PM

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth-Mecca and the Soul Brother. This might just be the best rap album of all time, definately within the last decade.

Tyler 03-20-2008 03:10 PM

Main Ingredient is just as good in my opinion. Also, it wasn't within the last decade, it came out in 92.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-20-2008 11:13 PM

I still need to check them out.

Tyr 03-22-2008 02:04 PM

Does he perform them when he's touring solo? I didn't know that.

ATM 03-22-2008 02:07 PM

I'm sure he'd do at least one.

Listening to Group Home right now. I forgot how good this is.

pulseczar 03-22-2008 02:13 PM

I heard he also does Clint Eastwood live, and yeah he does Deltron stuff
