4.5 superb |
A Lot Like Birds No Place |
Audioslave Audioslave |
I don't care what anyone says, this album was pretty groundbreaking to me as a child and, although I no longer believe this to be true, this is still an outstanding record with a near flawless slew of standout songs with very few weak points in between. Completely magnificent effort by each member which was not displayed almost whatsoever in their subsequent albums. |
Botch We Are the Romans |
Innovation in one of its most gritty, intelligent forms. The doors to mathcore were opened up to me because of these guys and Converge and despite the age, this never really gets old. |
Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me |
This is definitely one of the greatest bands and greatest albums that Sputnik introduced me to. Extraordinarily emotional and powerful, it is a near perfect album comparable to almost no other. |
Coheed and Cambria Year of the Black Rainbow |
Shut up, I don't care what you guys say. This is absolutely their greatest effort. The rhythm section on this thing can be absolutely insane or it can be very subdued. The album is epic, but needs not try too hard to be so. It's sonically large and every single song can be considered a near-flawless standout. |
Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Ascension |
Converge Jane Doe |
This album, man. Whatever this monstrosity wants to be, it accomplishes that task. Quick and crushing or slow and atmospheric, Jane Doe is an uncompromising, Hellbound train which delves into the most primitive of human emotion. |
Converge Axe to Fall |
Dem riffs, man. Converge have lost almost any semblance of atmosphere (sans songs like Wretched World and Cruel Bloom) but have, in turn, displayed a raw, emotive technicality which few bands could hope to emulate. |
Converge All We Love We Leave Behind |
Counterparts The Difference Between Hell and Home |
Death Symbolic |
The band which started a revolution in music almost singlehandedly, Death wholeheartedly deviate away from the original sound and, with their technical dream team, create an almost perfect album which would inspire many bands to come. While I'm not normally all for "the bands that started it all," Death is one extraordinary exception. |
Deathspell Omega Paracletus |
This Black Metal album is extremely dark and the musicianship is virtually unrivaled by these veterans of the game. Definitely their masterwork. |
Defeater Travels |
Deftones Diamond Eyes |
Deftones mix their styles more poignantly and seamlessly than ever before and create their masterpiece, undisputedly; the heaviness is felt deep within your bones while the melodic, dreamlike passages touches the very essence of your soul. |
Destroyer Kaputt |
Unlike most albums with that god-awful 80s pop influence, this indie-pop album is extremely powerful and relevant-sounding. With a hodgepodge of influences and some variance in style, this is definitely an indie-pop album that's unforgettable. |
Dethklok Dethalbum II |
Their first album was pretty silly and as such, I expected this album to follow suit. However, Brandon Smalls really stepped up his game with this masterpiece of a Melo-Death album. |
Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence |
I know most people don't like this album as much as I do, but from the first, punishing track to the forty-one minute finale, it does not relent from being awesome. |
Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues |
As it has been mentioned countless times on this site, this album is so entirely genuine. Every carefully chosen word is uttered with such intension and precision with undertones of extreme emotion while the musicianship is impeccable. It's definitely going to be looked at in hindsight as a folk classic. |
Florence and the Machine Ceremonials |
Glassjaw Our Color Green (The Singles) |
Glassjaw was always "cool" in my books, but they weren't as legendary as everyone on Sputnik was claiming them to be, in my opinion. It wasn't until I heard the absolute insanity of this EP in which I was finally engrossed within their sound. |
Incubus (USA-CA) Make Yourself |
This is the album which brought Incubus to the forefront of popular rock, but this rise to fame was completely justified. While retaining minimal amounts of experimentation, this otherwise straight up alternative rock record displays their phenomenal songwriting abilities and great musicianship without being overbearing in the slightest. |
Incubus (USA-CA) Morning View |
Incubus (USA-CA) S.C.I.E.N.C.E. |
Before I heard this album, I just thought Incubus was one of your typical mainstream rock bands who never really offered anything to music. The progressive, experimental rock songs rampant throughout are wonderfully contrasted by the jazzy, more mellow songs. Incubus would never be heard the same way again, even if their new direction has provided equally astounding music. |

I once thought this album was flawless. For all intents and purposes, it still is. However, this album has grown off of me majorly enough to warrant a drop in rating. |
