Review Summary: this is the blackdeath

Let me start off by saying that this is the first Behemoth album i've heard in it's entirety. I've heard some of their stuff here and there in the past but this is the first one I actually got out and bought. That being said my reaction has been a positive one. They're a solid unit. But what are they? A black metal band? A death metal band? or something different altogether? I guess i've come to the conclusion that they just play in both black/death metal styles but there is defiantly the hint of something other. But on to the album.

The first song "Daimonos" starts with the sound of being sucked into the abyss while Nergal chants into your ear all the while moving into slower building guitars and drums that eventually progress into solid blast beats. This song sounds commanding and evil all the way through. A good opener. The second track"Shemhamforash" again is a very fast track. Behemoth's death metal ability's really shine in this song. This song is also very powerful and almost like a wall of noise. The end becomes ominous and powerful because of the chanting of Shemhamforash. The third song "Ov Fire and the Void" is the single from the album and deserves to be. Why you may ask? Because this song kicks ass. The song starts with some great guitars, cymbal hits and blast beats. Nergal's vocals are powerful and hit you like a hammer. The song almost has a slow sludgy feel to it but is still chalk full of fast blast beats and fast riffing. This is a song i can recommend checking out even if you don't care for the rest of the album or band.

"Transmigrating Beyond Realms ov Amenti" the fourth track on the album is another track i feel is basically straight forward death metal. A good powerful track with good guitars and drums, but nothing special or new. The fifth track "He Who Breeds Pestilence" starts with the sound of birds cawing followed by a slow picked distorted guitar creating an ominous mood that moves into a strong blast beat accompanied by good riffing and vocals. This song has some really cool progressions and mood changes and can feel fairly epic at times. The six track "The Seed ov I" uses slower chugging guitars laid over fast double kick. Again really cool mood changes in this one and all the instruments are complementing each other well. A solid track with standout parts. The seventh track"Alas, the Lord id Upon Me" is a great little track that to me almost seems like the album's instrumental (although there are vocals) because of the length and set up of the song. The song starts with a slow distorted guitar that quickly gets chugging and fairly heavy. But just as quickly as it got heavy it goes back to the slower distorted riff this time accompanied by Nergals vocals building to the chugging riff once more and finally into a blast beat that finishes the song in just over three minutes. But it's not the shortest song on the album, track eight "Defiling Morality ov Black God" is. On this track Behemoth want to show us how fast they can go. This song is blast beats all the way through. This is also where i feel the album climaxes leaving us now with the eight minute plus track nine, "Lucifer". This is a good song and also the most black metal and atmospheric on the album. It's also the slowest moment on the album and gets decently epic by the end. Great guitar work as well.

All-in-all. A good album with some stellar moments.

I think this band and this album are criminally underrated on this site. I thought this was one ov their best.

Your summary should be "This is true Blackened Death Metal", also try not to do track-by-track, and fix your grammer.

The first paragraph basically says that you know nothing about the genre you are reviewing here, and have bothered to do no research. Didn't read the rest.

Then maybe you've heard somewhere along the way of a sub genre called blackened death metal? You may listen to the genre, it doesn't come through in your review, sorry.

Since when are metalheads soooo strict about grammar?

Are you trying to say we're all stupid?

Regardless, not capitalizing your I's and spelling very simple words wrong is embarrassing.

Hard to believe anyone who's old enough to listen to black and death metal for 15 years could mispell "definitive."
