Pretty much every drummer I like/respect can trace their influences back to Peart. Regardless of my opinion on Rush (I think they're fine), Neil's impact on the past 40 years of music is both incalculable and inarguable, and the rock world is much, much poorer for his passing. R.I.P.

I honestly hadn't listened to much Rush that much since I was a teenager, but their work was so formative and such a central part of my childhood and youth, that I can't think about the drums (and rock bass for that matter in respect to Lee) without automatically associating it with Peart's work. His work only got more refined, creative, and polished with time too, as he was constantly evolving as a drummer as the group explored new terrain through different sounds and textures. Moving Pictures through Power Windows is my favourite era with his work, and while his drumming is obviously a technical marvel, he plays so musically and effortlessly. A massive RIP, and I really wish that there could have been another tour and album.

This hurt so god damn much. Rush has, for a very long period of time, been one of my favorite acts, and Peart's drumming is absolutely one of the best parts of it. I've known so many drummers over so many years inspired to pick up sticks simply based on hearing Tom Sawyer, or literally 1 of like a 100 drum solos from throughout the band's back-catalog.

I hope he finds the peace he so certainly deserves.

Only yesterday I had knowledge about of this sad news, a very sad news, indeed. I'm deeply shocked with it. We lost one of the best drummers and lyricists in prog and in rock in general ever.

Unfortunatelly I never had the opportunity to see him performing live. This is even most sad due to the family dramas suffered by him in the past years. He deserved better. I think he deserved to have a peaceful retirement.

RIP Neil, we'll never forget you. Thank you.
