Fuck. This one hurts...
| |
Damn. Had no idea he had brain cancer. For as much as I don't like Rush, can't deny the man's talent. R.I.P.
| |
Sad news, I didn't know he had cancer. One of the best drummers of his generation.
RIP Neil Peart

I had no idea...
Hard RIP
| |
Horrible to hear this, absolute hero. Hardest RIP :[

In typical fashion he was living his life outside the limelight. Fought his battle and passed away 3 days ago.

Goddamn... What an awesome dude. Glad I got to see them live.

Rest in Peace you legend.

Fucking devastated. He was one of my personal heroes, one of the greatest drummers ever, and just a real, honest man.
RIP.

I’m crushed and at a loss for words right now.
Rest In Peace, Neil.
| |
:-(

They had a long and historic career but it's still sad to see. Rest in peace, professor.

RIP legend this one caught me off guard
| |
I wasn't expecting this. Hard RIP. Sad to hear.
| |
RIP hard. he was one of those drummers that made me run to my drum kit every time I'd listen to them play. his style was very technical and precise, but even more than that very musical and exciting and just FUN! an absolute legend
| |
RIP so fucking hard
| |
RIP
Never really liked Rush, but he was a legendary drummer.

We're only immortal for a limited time.

Never been a huge rush fan but his drumming has had a massive influence in the world, this is a big one.
| |
RIP, I don't even know what to say.
| |
fuck, man. I know we all go eventually, but damn. RIP.
| |
Worst news of a passing in my life probably 😞😞😞
| |
Almost didn't believe it. Doesn't feel right. RIP, you brilliant man
| |
RIP to a true legend behind the kit.
| |
For fucks sake, this is the first time I am in tears since Bowie died.
Rush were a big part of my life and he was surely the best drummer on this planet.
RIP to his family and friends
| |
Fucking hell....RIP Neil. You were one of the greats.
| |
Pretty much every drummer I like/respect can trace their influences back to Peart. Regardless of my opinion on Rush (I think they're fine), Neil's impact on the past 40 years of music is both incalculable and inarguable, and the rock world is much, much poorer for his passing. R.I.P.
| |
RIP. we all know this day would come but that doesnt make it any easier. the man might be gone but his legacy lives on forever.
| |
Biggest RIP I've seen on this site since coming here over a decade ago. Bennington was tough, but I have a feeling this guy was a major influence on the musicians and the types of music that I'm the most into. Damn this sucks.
| |
I am in complete and total shock. I cannot believe it.
| |
I honestly hadn't listened to much Rush that much since I was a teenager, but their work was so formative and such a central part of my childhood and youth, that I can't think about the drums (and rock bass for that matter in respect to Lee) without automatically associating it with Peart's work. His work only got more refined, creative, and polished with time too, as he was constantly evolving as a drummer as the group explored new terrain through different sounds and textures. Moving Pictures through Power Windows is my favourite era with his work, and while his drumming is obviously a technical marvel, he plays so musically and effortlessly. A massive RIP, and I really wish that there could have been another tour and album.
| |
Of all the ways he could've gone out, it just had to be cancer, huh? Fuck. RIP
| |
Fucking bummed about this. Gone way too soon. Fuck cancer.
RIP Neil.
| |
wow rip
| |
Was an unexpected death
rip
| |
what the absolute fuck dude. No way.
RIP Neil, one of the most iconic drummers of all time.
| |
Very sorry to hear... One of the best drummers for sure. Rest in peace, Neil.
| |
Gone too soon. Every drummer owns their craft to him. Absolute legend. RIP.
| |
To think... This happened three days ago and I just found out now. Awful news. RIP Neil.
| |
Fuck, RIP.
| |
A pioneer and a fucking titan. Hard RIP
| |
Biggest band of my childhood by far. Countless nights listening to Hemispheres and playing Runescape lol... This band had been so ubiquitous in my living that I could have never imagined this happening. Incredible how things change. RIP to an amazing human
| |
Damn, this fucking sucks. I was having a bad day and this is killer.
| |
oh man this is gonna break sput
RIP hard to an absolute legend
| |
Fuck cancer. RIP
| |
Going to be playing some Rush now. RIP.
| |
Man that's sad RIP
| |
wtf I'm in shock! RIP, The Professor :-(
| |
This hurt so god damn much. Rush has, for a very long period of time, been one of my favorite acts, and Peart's drumming is absolutely one of the best parts of it. I've known so many drummers over so many years inspired to pick up sticks simply based on hearing Tom Sawyer, or literally 1 of like a 100 drum solos from throughout the band's back-catalog.
I hope he finds the peace he so certainly deserves.
| |
Yeah this is the first musician death that’s actually hurt me in quite a bit
I told my dad (the biggest rush fan I know) about Neil’s death and it didn’t really seem to phase him. Feel like I’m gonna catch him in the basement balling his eyes out to the YYZ drum solo from ESL tonight just a hunch
| |
Pratt. Bubba. The Professor. The New Guy. Neil, we love you and miss you already. Thank you for the great music.
| |
This is fucking horrible, RIP professor.
| |
rip
| |
Clockwork Angels is still one of my favourite albums, by any band, and The Garden was a sad but very fitting way to go. Rest in peace, GOAT
| |
I wish he had lived a little longer to appreciate retirement. Shame to see a legend like this pass so soon after Rush disbanded.
| |
Damn what a hard RIP
| |
Sad news, awful battle.
I knew little of Rush when I found Sput over a decade ago but you could not avoid them with Kill and Sonic around. I soon made it through their great discog.
| |
I grew up on Rush and have listened to them for my entire life, since before I could walk to only an hour ago, chilling in my living room with moving pictures on the stereo. The news is devestating. RIP to one of my music heroes.
| |
I'm totally gutted. RIP.
| |
hardest rip of all time
| |
Huge, huge RIP
Gonna spin Permanent Waves in memory.
| |
My dad got me into Rush when I was a kid. He died a few months ago.
This is a tough one to comprehend, but there's some weird symmetry here

Incredible fucking drummer

| |
Peace out, brother. You are greatly missed already.
| |
regardless of what kind of music you listen to, it seems like everyone can agree that Neil Peart was a master of his craft. RIP

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
R.I.P. Neil
| |
Very cool to see how many loved and respected him. He's a legend now.
| |
Rightfully so, he's one of the most important/influential musicians in the last 40 years.
| |
^ 100% unequivocally accurate
| |
One of the best there ever was.
RIP
| |
"He's a legend now"
he has been so for quite some time now
| |
"So hard to earn, so easily burned"
so true...
| |
Thank you Neil.
| |
Hey Supernag! Glad to see you!
| |
Morherfucking RESPECT is due.
He had cancer, but the reality is, this dude died inside when he lost his wife something akin to Johnny Cash...
| |
Legend.
| |
Still can't come to terms with this one, have been listening to Rush nonstop since it happened.
| |
The only harder RIPs Ive given since being on this site were for Lemmy and Dio. Fucking RIP HARD
| |
Suddenly — You were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon...
Godspeed Neil. My favorite band of all time. I wouldn't be the same person I am today with out RUSH.
| |
RIP hard, glad I got to see em live on their 40th anniversary tour.
| |
Only yesterday I had knowledge about of this sad news, a very sad news, indeed. I'm deeply shocked with it. We lost one of the best drummers and lyricists in prog and in rock in general ever.
Unfortunatelly I never had the opportunity to see him performing live. This is even most sad due to the family dramas suffered by him in the past years. He deserved better. I think he deserved to have a peaceful retirement.
RIP Neil, we'll never forget you. Thank you.
