another day, another posthumous release cobbled together
|
| |
not really if you literally read the statement in the news article my dude
|
| |
does "well into the process of recording" mean having complete songs written with final vocal takes done
if not, i'd consider it cobbled together by someone else. if so, then i retract my dumb remark
|
| |
Thundercat said it was 85-90% done. likely everything recorded with some arrangements, mixing and editing to do, based on the leaks which are complete songs with vocal takes. they haven't cobbled together anything, Jon Brion has finished an album which Mac always intended to release
|
| |
then i retract my dumb remark
|
| |
Companion album to Swimming....swimming in circles... totally different, complimentary style...
Yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this is less cobbled together than, say, Skins
v excited seems like they are staying as true to Mac as they can
|
| |
Don't let the staff bully you, McTime. Your statement is accurate.
"another day, another posthumous release cobbled together" [2]
|
| |
Prolly gonna cry like a bitch to this but I'm excited to hear it
|
| |
no bulli
|
| |
Same Jeet
|
| |
Still need to check Swimming, but if it's anything like GO:OD AM then I'll like it.
|
| |
i love go:od am but swimming is on a whole other level sonically. and given that Thundercat and others affiliated with the project said it was like 85% done when he passed, there's no way this will turn out like any of X's posthumous releases. seems like mac's family is taking from lil peep's mom's playbook and trying to keep things authentic unlike X's money-hungry mom and all the other bullshit with X's estate lol
|
| |
Why aren't these rappers' fathers in the picture? (dumb joke)
I'll check Swimming soon.
|
| |
is that a question or a joke that flew over my head somehow? lolll, either way, i know that X's dad was kinda a deadbeat from what i've heard, and Peep's dad had an affair + had 0 respect for him nor Peep's brother and mom, n eventually he just straight up Dipped™️. watching his documentary really opened a lot of shit up that i never knew he had to go through, was eye opening that the best part of his life seemed to be when he lived on fuckin Skid Row with 4-10 other people. Mac was really close with all of his family though, or at least until near the end it seems
|
| |
just as disrespectful when some random internet crusader gets offended by (soon-to-be) published works of deceased artists and assume what their wishes would be for said material
|
| |
@ian I guess it wasn't really joke now that I think about it. It just seems like a common theme amongst rappers that they grew up with an absent father.
|
| |
I'm going to assume anyone offended by this is literally so fatally fucking stupid that they don't possess the brainpower to read
|
| |
How the fuck yall gonna bicker over mac miller tha fuck cares
|
| |
Y'all see that Pokémon expansion tho
|
| |
Now that's what I call spicy news
|
| |
this is going to be a master class hip hop album. Swimming was my hip hop AotY when it came out, and the production for this album far exceeds Swimming.
Yall aint even ready, this is gonna be the 2020 aoty. And for anyone not reading a fucking thing, the record was 95% done at the time of his death. This record was going to see the light of day, and his estate has very carefully curated and finished his nearly-completed work. This isn't like taking X's humming and turning it into a Skrillex remix.
|
| |
Surely this is just a cash grab by Malcolm's family.
|
| |
how do you remember to walk and breathe at the same time, urchin?
|
| |
New single is pretty good tbh
|
| |
single is great
|
| |
Dude he died a year and a half ago and his last album came out like a couple months before he died, there is 0% likelihood this isn’t “another posthumous release cobbled together”
Do people not realize albums like this are straight up disrespectful?
|
| |
You can’t work on an album for a year and a half and then slap a dead guy’s name on it... that’s just shitty, obviously.
|
| |
except when 85% of the material was already done and the producer who worked on the last one finished this new one
learn to read a bit at least before going "OHHH HE'S DEAD IT'S DISRESPECTFUL CUZ I'M ASSUMING EVERYTHING"
|
| |
^ "I'm going to assume anyone offended by this is literally so fatally fucking stupid that they don't possess the brainpower to read"
|
| |
The producer can say whatever the fuck he wants, the only person who’s opinion matters on releasing a Mac Miller album is Mac Miller, and he can’t give any input, can he?
|
| |
yea bet his family or his close collaborators had no idea what he wanted either
best thing is that you can't do anything about it
|
| |
Lol gottem
|
| |
I'd understand the argument against this if it was random shit pulled off the cutting room floor but considering it was nearly finished I'm just perplexed at any negativity thrown at this.
|
| |
"The producer can say whatever the fuck he wants, the only person who’s opinion matters on releasing a Mac Miller album is Mac Miller, and he can’t give any input, can he?"
Then why are you serving up an opinion?
The single was definitely not cobbled together and is one of his longer tracks at five minutes, but it feels like it needed every second of it.
If the rest of the tracks are on the same level I think it's fair to estimate that his close personal friend Thundercat isn't lying to us.
Time will tell.
It will sound cobbled together if it is.
|
| |
Y’all wanna help me make another new 2Pac album?
|
| |
you'd prob suck at producing so no
|
| |
Lmfao how is that even remotely the same thing. The 2pac posthumous albums are just random tracks thrown together
|
| |
Its gonna sound as finished and intentional as Mac Miller’s verses on the latest FlyLo and Free Nationals albums.
But let me guess, y’all think there is absolutely nothing weird about those verses either.
|
| |
"Prolly gonna cry like a bitch to this but I'm excited to hear it" [2]
Mac's music got me through some really bad times. "Godspeed" broke me down hard when I was going through substance abuse myself. The song put things even more perspective and helped me stay clean for a while. But anyway, I hope this last release finds a proper place. RIP
|
| |
Good News top 5 mac agreed
|
| |
This thread is riddled with stupidity lmao.
New song is top 5 Mac, without a doubt.
|
| |
Seriously this brought out some true fucking idiocy lmao
Song is so good
|
| |
Sputnik can sometimes be the place for idiots to fully share some of the most stupid hot takes in the internet, all while mostly remaining anonymous.
|
| |
Y’all are as tasteless and disrespectful as this album is about to be.
|
| |
"Seriously this brought out some true fucking idiocy lmao"
Agreed, imagine thinking posthumous albums aren't disrespectful to the dead.
|
| |
Hype beast fans will eat up anything and everything, and jeer at anyone who sees through it. Cowards.
|
| |
Call it a B-sides and Rarities album and it would go over so much smoother.
But labeling it as a compilation of b-sides doesn’t make the estate any money, does it?
|
| |
Jesus Christ yall are embarrassing yourselves
|
| |
Also the new song is aight.
|
| |
Imagine caring this much about it
|
| |
Mac Miller was a true artist whose legacy is worth respecting, that’s why I care. He deserves creative control of his own material, simple as that.
|
| |
LEAVE!!!!
MAC!!!!!
ALOOOOONNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
| |
“Agreed, imagine thinking posthumous albums aren't disrespectful to the dead.“
You’re on record saying you hope Ian Watkins gets out of jail for raping a baby so he can make more music. Do you have room to talk?
|
| |
“LEAVE!!!!
MAC!!!!!
ALOOOOONNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!“
Took the words right out of my mouth, buddy.
|
| |
I almost want to give this dude shit for his asinine takes but it wouldn't be a fair fight cos he's so clearly lacking basic reading comprehension
|
| |
"You’re on record saying you hope Ian Watkins gets out of jail for raping a baby so he can make more music. Do you have room to talk?"
GAAAAHHHDAYUMMMM
|
| |
"Do you have room to talk?"
Of course I do. I can express my opinion as I please as long as I'm not violating the site rules.
|
| |
this site deserves a vast purge or it deserves death
|
| |
[redacted]
|
| |
"Call it a B-sides and Rarities album and it would go over so much smoother."
Okay but I was under the impression these tracks were all from the same sessions/already intended to be released as this album, just with some mixing or whatever needing to be done
|
| |
cuz that’s exactly the case
|
| |
The album was already 85% done yeah, these aren't b-sides lmao
|
| |
So you are telling me that he wrote and recorded 85% of a new album in the one month (32 days to be exact) between Swimming’s release and his death, all while he was touring?
And then it took a year and a half to “add finishing touches?”
|
| |
Obviously I don't know exactly what happened, but I think it's more than fair to say it could have been all done during the Swimming sessions. As far as waiting a year and a half, it could be something as simple as the family not being ready. That's really anyone's guess.
|
| |
He was working on it as the same time as Swimming lmfao
I have to assume yr trolling at this point Noler, just read the article for fucks sake
|
| |
at least i can admit when im being a dumbass saying stupid shit
|
| |
I guess now would be an appropriate time to admit that I was trolling. I have no issue with posthumous albums. One of my favorite albums, Nujabes' Spiritual State, was a posthumous release. I just like giving the staff writers a hard time because I know they're troll filter is non-existent.
Also, I'm like 99% sure that Noler is trolling.
|
| |
I am being insensitive, I’m sorry. Lots of my favorite artists have not been treated well by music industry bigwigs after their passing. I’m just worried.
|
| |
No need to worry, Noler. Even if this release somehow becomes a disaster (which I'm sure it won't), we can still jam GO:OD AM. m/
|
| |
Totally fair Noler, like 8 out of 10 I would agree with ya
I have faith in this one tho
|
| |
I’ll jam Faces thank you very much.
|
| |
Hell yeah, Faces is best Mac
|
| |
Not on Spotify so it doesn't exist to me.
|
| |
That's how I typically am, but I downloaded Datpiff specifically to listen to Faces and Chance's Acid Rap prior to that one going on Spotify
Oh and Flatbush Zombies' Better Off Dead
|
| |
Ye, you gotta do what you gotta do for the stuff that you like. But when it comes to checking new stuff, if it's not on Spotify then fuhgeddaboudit.
|
| |
@nolar, mac probably had a vision for a concept album and worked on two releases at the same time and not so much that 85% was done after swimming.
|
| |
They're companion albums, Swimming (in) Circles
|
| |
this is a beautiful song. i cried like a bitch.
|
| |
Yeah I just did too not gonna even try to lie^
|
| |
its........ so sad
|
| |
So I was wrong.
