Japanese alt idol group Maison Book Girl have a new music video for their track int, which originally appeared on their 2017 album Image. The group have been busy since, releasing another an full-length Yume in late 2018 and a new single earlier this year.
However, int is a timely reminder of the group's particularities. Although its timbre and melody are both recognisable as traditionally pop, the track features no lyrics, minimal vocals and unconventional rhythms; its core loop is in 7/4, with one grouping of 4 followed by one of 3, and many of the accompaniments feature the group's trademark syncopation. The video consists entirely of a left-to-right scrolling seismograph-style visualisation, presumably mapping the song's EQ chart.
No plans have yet been announced for a follow-up to Yume, but given how productive Maison Book Girl have been since, stay tuned!
