HAARP Machine approaches Nadir

2018-12-22 by amateur grammar vigilante woodtouching over the sanctity of what things are *supposed* to mean | 32 Comments
The once highly hyped progressive/technical death metal brainchild of controversial virtuoso guitarist Al Mu'min, The HAARP Machine, has released a music video for the song "The Nadir" off their upcoming untitled second LP.

The band has also announced their departure from Sumerian Records and have started an IndieGogo campaign to finance the production and release of the upcoming album. The album will be The HAARP Machine's long-delayed follow-up to 2012's Disclosure, with the intervening years marked by innumerable lineup changes.

The details of the the upcoming album and the IndieGogo campaign can be found here:

Huh. I should hate this but I love the guitar and how non-standard the mix is. Interesting vocals. Could be worth the wait.

This is pretty sick. Yeah the mix is weird but the song doesn't sound like everything else and the riffs are very good.

Is he going to be able to play it live this time?

I'm surprised you guys are okay with the mix. I think this song would've been great if it wasn't for the almost complete lack of any low end in the instruments.

Too many clean vocals. I wouldn't say that about all metal with cleans, mind you. I just feel that way about these particular riffs. And the synths are too pretty, like in a negative way. Pretty solid stuff though. The breakdown at the end was kinda lit.

This has about everything I hate, but interesting anyhow. Weird.

The vocalist sounds like he's singing a different song to what everyone else is playing, and the song just seems to go absolutely nowhere.
Yeah this wasn't good, not to mention the mix is hot garbage, and the drama surrounding this band doesn't really help matters either.

Yeah sure give al the money before he actually gets the disc out....seems smart considering how trustworthy the guy has been

I should have gone to 5 gigs of theirs, too bad he cancelled 4 of them lol

Line ups have changed now 500% more times than the actual output of discs

If it wasn't for the death(y) part this almost sounds to me like Extreme.

Lol don't know, singer/guitarist have the same hair combo but inverted plus some of the guitar licks remind me of Nuno.

Well this is definitely worse when I'm not drunk. Why do they have straight Disney Channel cleans on here?? And they took everything that isn't supposed to be dominant in the mix and made it as high as possible. It's all treble and the actual bass guitar isn't anywhere to be heard.

I love Disclosure. This goes in some interesting directions from a guitar perspective but like many, I'm not enjoying the lack of low end or the vocals. The uninteresting vocal lines are almost completely sung in a nasally, annoying tone. Semesky was three times the vocalist this guy is.

Disagree hard. Disclosure is a pretty generic record besides the guitars, and frankly the guitar work in this song and Shedding are better than anything on Disclosure. Mu'min is getting much more melodic and I really like that.

Also I feel Semesky got the job done and that was it. This guy has good ability and this is a way harder song to sing to than anything on Disclosure, but I've come to enjoy the melodies after repeated listens.

I guess in the minority, but I'm kind of hooked on this song and Shedding and I'm really looking forward to the album.

Part of the problem with Disclosure was that Semesky was singing lyrics written by Mu'min. The new guy definitely sounds more comfortable. I hope they fix the mix though.

I really like the vocals (attempt at screaming not included) but it sounded like two different songs being played over each other. The vocals didn’t mesh at all with the music. Still worked somehow though so good job for that.

Travis Orbin posted that he tracked drums for this record. Doubt that Mu'min will ever keep a band together, but that's a nice choice.

Let's just hope that Mu'min doesn't threaten to burn his house down...cos Orbin looks like he would DESTROY a fool.

I came to my senses and realized the mix is fucking boring and this sounds like the first run at a demo.

That being said, I don't mind a simplistic song structure when bouncy riffs and some melodic vocals carry it along.

Idk still shreds to me. That chorus drum beat is sick as fuck, really having a good time trying to work it out. Orbin!!
