New The Plot In You Song

2018-02-03 by cman23kid | 40 Comments
Metalcore outfit The Plot In You have released a music video for the closing track off their upcoming album DISPOSE, out 2/16.

The song, titled "DISPOSABLE FIX", demonstrates further experimentation/departure of their core sound, even a departure from their previously released singles for this album.

That sounded more like Landon's solo work, it was alright

Weeeeird song. I have such split feelings about the direction they are going in. This band just sounds like Landon's solo stuff but watered down now

I'm not at all surprised about their direction, Landon hates like all of the band's past work and metalcore/metal in general nowadays

I've never listened to their previous work, but that was pretty neat. Interesting.

Not a fan. These last few singles have taken out all of that cathartic angst and anger from their last LP and haven't really put anything in its place.

"Landon hates like all of the band's past work and metalcore/metal in general nowadays"

Idk. He just put out that second AI640 release like a month ago. It's heavy stuff through and through.

As for this song... Definitely not for me.

At least start a new band or change the name if you're going to make this big of a departure in sound.

Shit like this pisses me off. He's a douche to think he can subtly change the sound of a band that is rooted in a genre he has grown to dislike. He needs to start a new band or do solo stuff. Glad I was never a fan of this band.

Pigeonholing a band into one genre is hilariously stupid tbh

Not really. It's not like people would think it's brave or amazing if Morbid Angel put out a hip hop or reggae album, they'd just say it's fucking stupid and that they should at least change the name. Even if a band changes their style a tiny bit, people still expect a certain sound out of them. I doubt even some of the biggest TPIY fans would listen to this with no context and go "oh yeah, that's the plot in you".

Pretty awful IMO. Never was a big fan of this band and this certainty didn't change that.

They're just people creating music man, I don't see why any group of artists has to go by a different name if they create a different genre of music. That's like saying Christopher Nolan should go by a different name whenever he releases a movie that isn't an action film. Or is writing music different than writing any other form of art?

What kind of argument is that? How often do you hear music artist switching genres? Those standards don't apply to music, you idiot.

Clearly, he doesn't have the balls to create another band because The Plot In You already has a following. What he's doing is being a little bitch. He has no integrity.

His solo work has a decent following tho, plus considering the drastic change in sound, I'd say he has some huge balls

Damn. After hearing their earlier work its like they said "hey we suck at core lets just start sucking in another genre"

Literally all the time? And every time it's met with this same reaction.

Comparing a film director to a band is pretty dumb, but we'll go with it. Say Joss Whedon was hired to return for Avengers: Infinity War. He wouldn't use that as an excuse to finally make a horror movie, would he? No. That's what Cabin in the Woods was for. When people watch an Avengers film, they expect something, just like when people listen to a The Plot In You Song. It's a bad metaphor, but like I said, it's a dumb comparison.

Song is alright. Sounds too much like a generic radio band, something like Imagine Dragons or whatever. I can't think of specific examples because I don't really care.

It's really only different from their earlier releases, since their last release this is kinda the sound they've been leaning towards, although this song particularly stands out however it is an album closer.

Never understood the whole "x band should change their name." Look back at tons of popular bands throughout music history that never changed their name, it doesn't really matter. The problem is people just want a specific sound, but fail to understand they can choose to only like a certain sound by a band.

Like, nothing against you if you don't like the new Plot songs. Music is all subjective. People who were hooked by The Fathers Seed don't have to like this, they have their earlier albums to listen to if they want that sound. Art is a creative outlet; sure some bands stick to the same sound throughout their career just for the money. But people change over time, their vision becomes different, and they're not the same angry kids they were in their earlier work.

tl;dr - I'd rather listen to a band's new sound that they actually appreciate and wanted to put the time into, rather than the same sound forced over and over again that just fucking sucks by the fifth time because they're out of ideas and don't give a fuck

I'm gonna go out and say it without reading any of the previous comments...

This sounds like if Imagine Dragons and Sempiternal BMTH had a baby.

Cool thing is it's not even that bad.

Not so sure about the Imagine Dragons comparisons... maybe it's the thumbnail being similar to their artwork doing some weird psychology shit.

I've heard quite a few times that the boys in August Burns Red don't even listen to metalcore. But guess what? they play metalcore music. Why? Because they respect their fans.

And as far to the contention that plenty of great bands change their sound. Bands that successfully change their sound, do it strategically. Sempiternal, They're Only Chasing Safety, The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me, etc.
Hell, I'm not the biggest We Came As Romans fan, but when they released The World I Used To Know I enjoyed the song so much. It was a pop song, but it was within the realm of their style and it sounded so natural and genuine.

This thread has definitely sparked an interesting conversation. But my biggest beef is that if the lead singer really does dislike their genre, then he's doing a disservice to his fans by migrating the sound so heavily. And what really makes me mad is that he continues to use the same name. I remember when Attack Attack! disbanded and they changed the facebook page (which had like over a million likes) to "Nativ" another band formed from remaining members. But eventually they changed the page to RIP Attack Attack! or something. Nativ was a failure but I like to think they changed the name out of respect. Another incident was when Woe, Is Me broke up, and the lead singer changed their FB name to his new band. And there was a lot of backlash. Bottom line is, I think it's terrible when people push music on you just because they don't want to start over and garner a new fan base from scratch.

I don't think he hates metalcore per-se, he just thinks it's become stale and generic. Otherwise I don't think he'd have bothered with Ai640pt2.

This album will have a softer sound, but that doesn't mean they can't return to form on the next one. Happened with other bands.

But if a band wants to change their sound let them change their damn sound.
