They sound like Trump supporters

pretty fuckin gay
|
| |
didn't realize havok had new music out
this is pretty bad
|
| |
it's like a toxik cover band with a good guitarist
|
| |
needs more upper register vox like Think This
not bad but nothing to write home about
|
| |
This needs to not exist
|
| |
how do they go from recording Crooked Crosses to this
|
| |
That album art is decidedly un-Toxik. Song has my expectations pretty low.
|
| |
Also for all none of you who were wondering, I have no idea who the new bassist is, but it's definitely not Bill Bodilly anymore
|
| |
turrible

what the fuck happened to Sabin's voice
why is this so generic
why did they decide that this was a suitable follow-up to the two and a half years of silence since Too Late and Crooked Crosses dropped
why are the lyrics so painfully trash
why

Lyrics are the worst thing about this, but song's ok
|
| |
oh
|
| |
The production is fucking terrible
|

Got a promo of the whole EP. This song is pretty bad, the title track is actually solid, and the last cut is probably even worse than this one--it's got this bizarre, awkward chorus that doesn't work in the slighest. The instrumentation is excellent throughout, but the vocals and lyrics really hinder it. Probably a 2.5

The ep is not that bad. And if it's any consolation, they absolutely rip it live. Even Sabin is good, still reaching those high notes.

Opinion after first listen, I'd say Stand Up is probs the worst song on this. Breaking Class is really quite good, would sound like old Toxik if the production wasn't brickwalled to death. Psyop is also pretty good, with some especially cool solos. The instrumentation is awesome, the riffs hold up pretty well. The vocals have their moments, but Sabin is almost unrecognizable from his performance on Think This. He doesn't really make or break the record, but admittedly the lyrics are pretty poor. They try to go for the same political angles as their previous albums, but sound very contrived. They're not from a personal perspective, and therefore are much less evocative. Their calls for revolution and bringing down the system are almost cringey... Almost. It is metal after all, so lyrics don't matter all that much, but it is disappointing considering Think This really had some great lyrics.
I will listen a few more times this week, sounding like 3 for me.

This song and EP are fine. Man, and I thought RYM was home to some of the snobbiest dickheads...
|
| |
Not too bad
|
| |
Need to listen to this.
|
| |
It's a solid effort really, some production issues aside
|
| |
disagree hard, Sabin's voice is nowhere near what it used to be, and the riffs just felt so much more lifeless, to the point that I can barely remember them like a few weeks after having listened to them
I could never forget that janky nonsense in Technical Arrogance, or any other song from Think This
I'm sad that it exists, it's not even terrible, it's just almost violently lukewarm, but it feels like they hadn't lost a step when Too Late and Crooked Crosses dropped, so it's just like what the fuck happened
|
| |
Yeah, I do feel that
|
| |
I enjoyed this EP.

The EP has been remixed and extended with three more tracks, as part of the III Works box set. The result is somewhat more balanced. Read a short review here: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/76928/Toxik-III-Works/

Thought this EP was underwhelming. Gonna check that box set tomorrow.
Also the review linked here doesn't open mate.
