Bad Religion drummer quits

Longtime Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman has decided to leave Bad Religion after 15 years. Brooks announced his leave from Bad Religion on Oct. 27 via Twitter:

Dear boys and girls,
After 15 years, 6 records and countless tours- I’ve decided to move on from Bad Religion.
This wasn’t an easy decision to make after spending a good chunk of my life in such an iconic band, but after reassessing my future in music it was time for me to pursue another path.

As I’m writing this, my mind is flashing back to my audition with these guys in 2000. I’ll never forget how exhilarating it was to pay “Stranger than Fiction” (my first song) with them and how well is all jelled, as I was doing my best to camouflage my nerves while walking into Cole Studios in Los Angeles, CA.

To have this education and growth has been invaluable to me, and I’m forever grateful to this band for allowing me to be a part of a movement that I can honestly look back on our time together and say, “I’m proud of what we accomplished.”
BW

Wackerman’s departure comes a year after longtime guitarist Greg Hetson confirmed his own leave from Bad Religion. Brooks joined the group in 2000 to record 2002's The Process Of Belief, replacing former drummer Bobby Schayer. His last album was 2014's Christmas Songs.

Huge bummer. He was their best drummer by a mile, and a big part of their early 00s-present revitalization.

Did not expect this...
Well I hope they'll find someone just as good as Brooks, because he is a great drummer.

Wonder what he'll do now. Mass Mental is only an on-and-off thing and they have one gig this month but that's about it. And Tenacious D are inactive atm too.

14 year old me would have been pretty bummed about this.

That's a shame, he was easily one of the best parts of BR.

Awww, I loved his work on New Maps of Hell.

Here's hoping Pete Finestone would consider coming back; it sounds like they're falling apart.

Rumor is he left to join Avenged Sevenfold... if that's true, good for him but that's a pretty big step down musically.

If Brooks joins A7X he won't stay for long. He's way too good for them and if his creativity and technical ability gets stifled in the way Arin Illejay's was (his stuff with Confide was great but people think he's crap because of HTTK) then he'll leave quickly. A7X didn't exactly treat Arin very well either cos they don't want to have anyone threatening to top The Rev's status.

Damn, never want to see that. Bad Religion is easily my favorite band of all time, and he's played on some of my favorite albums.
Avenged Sevenfold? Say it ain't so.

Congrats to him for getting a spot on A7x but shame on him for being a part of A7x.

Maybe he can breahe some life into them with his drumming.

A colossal step down.
With that being said, City of Evil is still a pretty great record.

Going from Bad Religion to A7X is like choosing a tesco value ready meal over steak and chips with onion rings.

Honestly though, the a7x drummer always brings something new to their table. When Mike Portnoy drummed on nightmare, you got tracks like save me, which basically sounded like a blend of a7x and dream theater. I'm actually pretty interested with what he could bring to the band, because it could turn out being pretty cool
