Demon of the Fall 04.30.24	Gorguts and VBE in the top 5, which is nice. DSO is a slightly grating #1 but a (usually) great band regardless. Respect for Liturgy being here. Wrong Pestilence ranking, but who cares. Good list overall. Faceless Burial seems so out of context in that top 10, whereas I can understand Seprent Column being there (despite having their peaks ranked similarly). Especially having FB's best album third and their 'fun one' ranked higher, but it's a small gripe - guess there's very little fun elsewhere, you should work on that. Mgla isn't my thing either. I haven't heard a single note of Skaphe, Hell, Khanate, Drawn & Quartered or Grand Belial's Key. I'm drawn towards Skaphe for some reason.

tectactoe 04.30.24	@ Demon: Faceless Burial might be victims of recency bias, but their three albums (and EP) are, imo, near-paragons of this revivalist, modernized take on OSDM. They are, to me, what Blood Incantation seems to be for everyone else. (I like BI very much, too, but quite simply I think FB does precisely what they do, rather significantly better.) Opinions, of course, but every time I jam one of their records, doesn't matter which, I'm always stunned at how good it is from essentially start to finish. Definitely give Skaphe a shot. Skaphe 3 finished at #9 for my 2020 releases (and that's all albums, not just metal albums). Indefensible worldviews aside, I do recommend GBK, too, they are really the leaders of USBM. Untouchable riffs. I actually do have a rating for Through Silver in Blood that's equally as good as my Times of Grace rating, but according to last.fm I've listened to ToG waaaay more (and that's the one I really remember in my head) which is why it's listed as my favorite. Those are the only two Neurosis albums I've checked, though, maybe I'll change that soon. @garas: ðŸ¤˜ Yes, love Skaphe. Though I'm getting kind of impatient. Haven't released anything new since 2020 ðŸ˜¥

tectactoe 05.01.24	@Cyg, it's a draining album for sure. I can't say I loved it (or even made it all the way thru) when I first heard it, either, but you kinda have to be in the right mindset/mood for it. Like Soundtracks for the Blind...you're not just gonna pop that shit on at any ol' time lol.
