| Big Hair at the Fair
This Saturday, I attended a second Music Fest at the City of Cumming (GA) Fairgrounds. This fest was put on by a local eatery, Rosati's Pizza and Sports Pub, and Music Authority. Music Authority fronted the majority of the first half of the fest with bands assembled by their students. Rosati's provided the more seasoned cover band to finish the night. | | 1 |  | Heart
Greatest Hits
I actually missed the Fest opener. The local band "North Main" was the first band I viewed. The band was quite young, but fronted by a formidable and energetic female singer. They played several covers including Heart's "Barracuda", Pat Benetar's "Heartbreaker", The Eagles "Life in the Fast Lane", and a Queen cover. Their best was a cover of "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin. | | 2 |  | Bob Seger
Stranger in Town
The second band was named Beyond, another female-fronted band produced by Music Authority. They played covers by Bob Seger ("Old Time Rock n Roll), Alabama ("I'm in a Hurry"), Joan Jett ("I Hate Myself for Loving You"), and Thin Lizzy ("Boys are Back in Town"). | | 3 |  | Cage The Elephant
Cage the Elephant
The third band, 415, played primarily originals. However, they did play a cover of Cage the Elephant. Honestly, the majority of their tracks were in the vein of Cage the Elephant. My least fav band of the day. | | 4 |  | The Black Crowes
Shake Your Money Maker
The band Johnny Awesome came next. This band was tight, and played a mix of southern inspired rock with a tinge of metal. Really dug this band, especially when they slowed it down and focused on the heavy. | | 5 |  | Live
Mental Jewelry
The final Music Authority band was Eclipse. Also female fronted, they played covers of songs by Journey ("Anyway you want it"), Poison ("Your Mama Don't Dance", "Fallen Angel"), Queen ("Under Pressure"), Guns N' Roses ("Sweet Child of Mine"), and Live ("Pain Lies on the Riverside". A decent cover band with a pretty charasmatic lead singer. | | 6 |  | Stone Temple Pilots
Core
On to the more professional cover bands. Stone Temple Pirates followed with an incredibly strong set. Unfortunately, not many were there to see it. Their setlist kicked off with a heavy version of "Sunday Girl", and progressed with covers of "Hickory Dichotomy", "Crackerman", "Wicked Garden", "Big Empty", "Trippin on a Paper Heart", "Vasoline", "Big Bang Baby", and "Dead and Bloated". Even threw in a Velvet Revolver cover of "Fall to Pieces". They closed their set with "Plush" and "Sex Type Thing". Throughout, their lead singer wore clothes characteristic of the late Scott Weiland (R.I.P.), even sang out of the hand-held loud speaker. An incredible set...almost better than when I saw STP live themselves. | | 7 |  | AC/DC
Back In Black
The next cover band was Back in Black. They covered AC/DC classics including "Thunderstruck" (their opener), "Back in Black", "Dirty Deeds", "Shook Me All Night Long", "TNT", and "Hell's Bells". They closed with "Highway to Hell". The crowd started to come in around this time and this band revved them up. | | 8 |  | Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters
A cover band Foo U played a brief set. This included mostly "safe" Foo Fighters songs including "All My Life", "Times Like These", "My Hero" (dedicated to the US Miltary personnel present), and "Learn to Fly". However, they did play "This is a Call" as their closer, which was always one of my favorite Foo classics. All in all, a good set. | | 9 |  | Alice in Chains
Sap
The final supporting act was a cover band named "Junkhead". Funny enough, they were the same band as "Foo U"; however, they did a much better job on the AIC covers. They kicked off their set with "We Die Young" from Facelift. They played heavily off Facelift and Dirt, including covers of "Them Bones", Dam that River", "It Ain't Like That", "Angry Chair", and "Man in the Box". They even played "No Excuses", and a couple of newer AIC tracks, including "Check My Brain" and "Stone". An acoustic rendition of "Nutshell" took the cake. They closed with "Rooser" and "Would". All in all, an incredible set and performance. Really dug this band. | | 10 |  | Liliac
Covers Vol. 2
The headlining band was Liliac, out of Los Angeles. They played predominantly covers including "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, "We will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" by Queen, "Rock and Roll All Night" by Kiss, "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden, "Crazy Train" by Ozzy, and "I Love Rock n Roll" by Joan Jett. | | 11 |  | Liliac
Chain of Thorns
Throughout their set, Liliac (consisting of 5 siblings) also incorporated their own originals and a guitar solo (by Sam, the oldest brother). This is a quite talented band, with the middle child providing strong presence and vocals to this female fronted band. The guitar and drum work was equally impressive. They closed with a cover of Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark". | |
