03.27.18 | anything can be a thing these days, so my answer is yes |
cold
03.27.18 | Imma have to check these out |
DominionMM1
03.27.18 | another ridiculous genre tag? sure why not |
Papa Universe
03.27.18 | of course, I had an internship at a mental home, where I was supposed to inspect the highly deranged individuals, most of whom screamed all the time. scream gaze it was indeed |
DinosaurJones
03.27.18 | Guys.
You guys.
I found out about this new genre. It's called "Screamo."
Guys.
It's like emo.
But with SCREAMING.
Holy crap, you guys. |
Sinternet
03.27.18 | 3 is very very good, highly recommended
1 and 5 look interesting will check |
cold
03.27.18 | Does Grassgaze exist? I sure would love to hear a banjo through 5 reverb pedals. |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @DominionMM1, @Papa Universe. and @DinosaurJones - you guys crack me up with your sardonic responses. And as an actual genre tag, it does sound kind of ridiculous. : ) |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @coldheaven - Hell ya...grassgaze!! Time for a new list. : ) |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @Sinternet - I would also highly recommend 2. I would say that it is the best album in the list. |
butcherboy
03.27.18 | general rule of thumb is if you can conceive it and sound it out, it exists on the internet.. |
cold
03.27.18 | I think this is Grassgaze
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LGTEI1RMoQ |
DungeonBoy
03.27.18 | I hope you find the answers to all of your questions, but thanks for sharing 3, I'm really digging it. |
cold
03.27.18 | but thanks for sharing 3, I'm really digging it. [2] |
SitarHero
03.27.18 | I recently saw a band called Disparager. They might be what you're looking for. |
SitarHero

JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @coldheaven - I am literally cracking up right now. That video is the funniest shit I have seen in a long time!! |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @coldheaven and @DungeonBoy - I am glad to hear you are digging 3. Out of the whole list, 2 and 3 are my favorites. : ) |
Evreaia
03.27.18 | Checked out 3 because ppl seemed to like it.
Good stuff. |
TheSpirit
03.27.18 | 1 is lit, start convincing ppl to listen to that |
pjquinones747
03.27.18 | I'd rather just call it screamo. Screamgaze sounds silly. |
osmark86
03.27.18 | the imagery that genre nomenclature evokes though.. |
Snake.
03.27.18 | anybody wanna hmu with some sweet dreamo bands |
pjquinones747
03.27.18 | I get what you're saying @osmark as my band has had similar struggles, but specifically screamgaze is kinda silly. A secondary moniker within shoegaze, maybe. |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @SitarHero - Thanks for the suggestion. Disparager is more on the post metal/sludge metal sides of things than the screamo side of things but it is good nonetheless. : ) |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @SnakeDelilah - Holy crap!! There is actually a musical category out there called "dreamo". On Last.fm, Old Soul and We Came Like Tigers are in the artists list for "dreamo music". Old Soul also shows as "dreamo" on Bandcamp. Those have to be mistakes!! |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | pjquinones747 - I agree...screamgaze does sound silly. : ) |
DinosaurJones
03.27.18 | Dreamo
Look, I'm all for blending music genres to make cool stuff, but... you don't have to combine the words. |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @TheSpirit - I have had trouble getting into 1. But they probably fit the "screamgaze" category better than the others to a great extent. |
DungeonBoy
03.27.18 | There is no end to the absolutely ridiculous genre tags:
"Slowcore" is a fusion genre of indie rock and sadcore
"Sadcore" is a subgenre occasionally identified by music journalists to describe examples of alternative rock characterised by bleak lyrics, downbeat melodies and slower tempos
None of the above have anything to do with hardcore, but let's just slap a core on the end and call it a day. |
DinosaurJones
03.27.18 | Emotional Hobo-Core |
TheSpirit
03.27.18 | yeah i mean genre tags are ridiculous, but they can be useful ...i think the core aspect for softer music is just to inform that it's HARDCORE mellow, or HARDCORE dreamy... |
DungeonBoy
03.27.18 | lol hardcore mellow |
cold
03.27.18 | What if I want Hardercore |
TheSpirit
03.27.18 | it's beyond chill |
cold
03.27.18 | Yo Sitar, that Disparager band is pretty tight. Slowly checking all these out cause it's right up my alley.
But it's not Hardestcore |
cold
03.27.18 | Loved all of this, especially Trachimbrod, Earth Moves, and Materic. I can't find that last band anywhere though :( |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @coldheaven - Sorry...the band name is misspelled. It is actually Solanas. https://solanas.bandcamp.com/album/the-distance-within-our-bodies |
TheSpaceMan
03.27.18 | God I hope not. Blackgaze is bad enough |
cold
03.27.18 | Ain't nothin' wrong with a lil' Blackgaze, my dude. And thanks JLR, you gave me a whole bunch of new shit to listen to. I know who to come to now for recs ;] |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | My pleasure @coldheaven. When I was young, I was very much into punk rock. I was looking over your album ratings and saw Jawbreaker on the list. I have not played Unfun in years. It looks like today with be a nostalgia day. : ) |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @TheSpaceMan - Post rock screamo (some people call it post screamo...like there are not enough post something genres out there) and blackgaze are my favorite types of music even if the genre names can be considered kind of silly or annoying. At least the genre names help when searching for new music. : ) |
Demon of the Fall
03.27.18 | Genre name sounds about as silly as ‘Powerviolence’ but sure why not? I don’t think it sounds appealing mind, could be wrong, it’s been known. |
cold
03.27.18 | R.I.P I < 3 Powerviolence |
bloc
03.27.18 | Got excited when I saw 8, but then saw it was a man |
cold
03.27.18 | Don't be afraid |
TheSpaceMan
03.27.18 | I'm just playin but there's very few blackgaze I dig. Most of what I've heard is derivative and sorta annoying |
bloc
03.27.18 | I ain't afraid |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @TheSpaceMan - I agree that a lot of blackgaze can be derivative and can get downright boring at times...especially when combined with atmospheric black metal. So many of those bands sound the same. There are only certain blackgaze bands that really appeal to me with Deafheaven, Bosse-De-Nage, Harakiri for the Sky, An Autumn for Crippled Children, Show Me a Dinosaur, Tanpopo Crisis, and mol being the best of them in my opinion. |
dbizzles
03.27.18 | ^^^ALCEST, YOU PLEB! |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @dbizzles - Be nice, man. : ) I do like Alcest and Amesoeurs and all of the other bands that Neige was a part of but it is the bands that evolved from those bands that really catch my attention and affect me the most. |
SitarHero
03.27.18 | Astronoid gets thrown in with the blackgaze and atmospheric black metal crowd too and they're pretty good. |
Deathconscious
03.27.18 | "Does Grassgaze exist?"
I would listen to this. |
cold
03.27.18 | Adolf gets it |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @SitarHero - Agreed...Astronoid is blackgaze and they are pretty good. : ) |
dbizzles
03.27.18 | Fair enough. Kodama and Ecailles are my shit. |
JLR2DEG
03.27.18 | @dbizzles - The two Alcest albums you listed plus Le Secret are my favorites. Without Alcest, a lot of the blackgaze albums I love might not have ever existed. |
dbizzles
03.27.18 | True. I'll probably check a couple of these at some point. |
SitarHero
03.28.18 | I actually like Astronoid's description of their own sound: Dream Thrash |
JLR2DEG
03.28.18 | @Sitarhero - That is a very good description given the black metal heaviness of the music and the "dreamy" quality of the vocals. I have always preferred blackgaze bands with screaming vocals (the song Astronoid from their November EP is right up my alley) but Astronoid is one exception to that rule. |
pizzamachine
03.28.18 | Shoegaze was already dumb enough sounding 🤦🏻♂️ |
DungeonBoy
03.28.18 | but have you heard Shoecore? |
pizzamachine
03.28.18 | Actually no 🧐 |
JLR2DEG
05.07.18 | I just added two new albums to the list - (1) the Puerto escondido EP by Graniza en la casa del arbol and (2) the Anhedonia EP by Caminos. I think that screamgaze might actually exist. : ) |
Nikkolae
05.07.18 | It does and it's pretty cool, "Us without Self Control" in 1 is so good |
JLR2DEG
05.07.18 | @Nikkolae - Agreed...Us without Self Control is my favorite song on the album. : ) |
JLR2DEG
07.04.18 | I just added the The Stellar Background by Roman Lions and the Elle by Elle. |
Nikkolae
07.04.18 | Id also say you should check out State Faults, not too heavy on the gaze but its a tinge enough |
sixdegrees
07.04.18 | Camera Obscura (CA) - To Change the Shape of an Envelope |
JLR2DEG
07.04.18 | @Nikkolae - I really like their Head In The Clouds EP but i have never been able to get in to their other records. |
JLR2DEG
07.04.18 | @sixdegrees - Thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard of Camera Obscura before. That is definitely an oldie. I will give it a listen. : ) |
Nikkolae
07.04.18 | @JLR you should def give Resonate/Desperate a go if you havent already, its a great album |
Hawks
07.04.18 | Kev rec’d me 1 earlier, def gonna jam it tonight when I get home. |
JLR2DEG
07.04.18 | @Nikkolae - It has been a long while since I heard Resonate/Desperate. I will absolutely give it another listen. |
JLR2DEG
07.04.18 | @Hawks - I think you will definitely enjoy it. Trachimbrod does the screamo/shoegaze thing the best in my opinion. : ) |
Nikkolae
07.04.18 | And their new one "Leda" unf |
