2018: Upcoming & Potential Releases
There's plenty of time left in the year and plenty of new music to explore. Here are a collection of bands that are 1. confirmed to be releasing in 2018 or 2. are in the process of/may release an album. This is obviously only a fraction of all that will be coming around, but these are still some great bands to keep an ear open for. |
1 | | First Fragment Dasein
[Technical DM]
Although currently without a static drummer, the boys have apparently been crafting riff after riff after riff. Even if a new album this year is a small possibility, we can definitely be assured that they're working hard for something in the future. |
2 | | Advent Sorrow As All Light Leaves Her
[Black Metal]
They've been sitting on a single since fall of last year and are reportedly halfway through the recording process. Certainly expect to hear some previews at the very least as time goes on. |
3 | | Ascariasis Ocean of Colour
[Progressive Metal/Metalcore]
After more than three years of no updates, Ascariasis have emerged out of nowhere while sporting what appears to be an entirely new direction. They are apparently in "album mode" right now, so it would not be surprising to see new material (besides existing single "Concrete") later this year. |
4 | | Deadwood Picturing a Sense of Loss
["Blackgaze"/Post Metal]
Picturing a Sense of Loss has officially turned four years old, and the band is apparently shooting for a 2018 release date. Nothing concrete so far, but it wouldn't hurt to get hype. |
5 | | Gorod A Maze of Recycled Creeds
[Technical DM]
Highly unlikely a new album will happen this year. However, as of today, they've started the recording process. Expect some consistent and amazing tech goodness on the distant horizon. |
6 | | Methexis Suiciety
[Progressive Rock/Alt. Rock]
Nothing is confirmed with this group either. However, an update on a new album seems to be promised for the spring, and it's implied that 2018 might be the year of its release. I'm hopeful for a surprise delivery. |
7 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
[Metalcore/Hardcore]
Three singles are out, March 2nd is the confirmed date for the full album. Has the potential to be the release to beat in Q1. |
8 | | Seizures The Sanity Universal
[Metalcore/Hardcore]
The kings of the metalcore revival style confirmed recording in late November of last year. If we're lucky, they'll be smashing our eardrums later this year. |
9 | | Seventh Wonder The Great Escape
[Progressive Metal]
Recording is apparently finalized/being finalized with a 2018 release date to be announced. I foresee nothing but great things from these guys (once again). |
10 | | The Ocean Pelagial
[Progressive Metal/Post Metal]
A new album is confirmed, named Phanerozoic, and it's apparently a double. Oh, and as of today, drums are finalized. Maybe a Fall/Winter release could be a possibility. It's been a while since The Ocean's waves have crashed down upon us, so I am eagerly anticipating whatever is to come. |
11 | | Titus Andronicus A Productive Cough
[Punk/Indie Rock]
Another March 2nd release. It should be something to talk about, if nothing else. I'm optimistic of it being a great release. |
12 | | Zapruder Fall In Line
[Metalcore/Post-Hardcore]
I know that me going "Check Zapruder" might as well be a meme at this point, but these guys really are a prime example of amazing modern metalcore. Album mastering is confirmed done. 2018 will be the year, it's a near-guarantee. |
13 | | Adrenalized Tales From The Last Generation
[Punk/Hardcore]
Apparently, they've been playing new songs on tours. Hype? |
14 | | Augury Illusive Golden Age
[Technical DM]
Release confirmed March 30th. March is gonna be a fun month, huh? |
15 | | Frontierer Orange Mathematics
[Metalcore/Grind]
There's some new music on the horizon, and it's apparently coming soon. How soon remains the question. |
16 | | King Apathy King Apathy
[Black metal/Metalcore]
Formerly known as Thranenkind, the band has promised new material for 2018 and seem optimistic about a 2018 album release. They're very good at what they do and I have full faith in their output. |
17 | | Napoleon Newborn Mind
[Progressive Metal/Metalcore]
The album's final mix has been received. It's all just a waiting game for a specific date at this point. |
18 | | Preoccupations New Material
[Post Punk/Noise Rock]
Confirmed for March 23rd. I'm starting to get pretty damn excited for March. |
19 | | Sectioned (UK) Outlier
[Metalcore/Hardcore]
Preorders are going live on the 23rd this month. It's gonna be the band's first full length, and if it's anything like their EPs, it'll be a treat. |
20 | | Shores of Elysium Entity In The Void
[Technical DM]
Recording process is underway. Nothing set in stone, but I can dream. |
21 | | Sojourner The Shadowed Road
[Folksy BM]
Confirmed for, believe it or not, March 15th. Their first LP was addicting and very well produced. I have no doubt this will follow in its footsteps. |
22 | | The Ritual Aura Taether
[Technical DM]
Album is in the works and 2018 seems to be the year. These guys have a great proggy style that I can't wait to hear more of. A shorter runtime wouldn't hurt, tho |
23 | | Vola Inmazes
[Progressive Metal/Djent]
Feels like it's been way too long since we've had Vola grace our ears. They've professed their desire to release an album in 2018, but that's all that's known thus far. |
24 | | Will Haven Muerte
[Post/Sludge Metal/Metalcore]
March 23rd release date confirmed. March is gonna be fun. This will be heavy as fuck. That's all. |
25 | | The Afterimage Lumière
[Progressive Metal/Metalcore]
Forgot to include these guys. Another great modern core act that's gonna be showing up in 2018 |
