GodLovesUgly
07.09.17 | TheMrAlexK and Drifter I swear this isn't as generic as the majority of lists lol. Sometimes some of the most popular just happen to be some of the best though. I rushed the list a bit and have edited it since I first posted it after leaving some shocking titles out. |
GodLovesUgly
07.09.17 | Oh and I'll listen to Thoughts Of An Optimist |

07.09.17 | List rules
In a just world this will get featured |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | nocuffin do you think he should have been featured?, Vol 2 is great all the way through, I know how annoying his subject matter can get but that album is perfection. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Cheers Drifter. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Thanks Thalassic, glad you think it should be featured to bad it's not a "just" world haha. |
hal1ax
07.10.17 | Alex is right tbh. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Lol meh, what of these classics shouldn't be on here? |
hal1ax
07.10.17 | 85 for starters |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Man at least that's not a generic album that's always on lists as Alex was tryna put it. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Also that album amazes me with subject matter, rhyme patterns and production just the overall atmosphere of it blows me away each time. |
hal1ax
07.10.17 | yea i suppose it is kind of a unique pick for a 'best hip hop' list hehe. but there might be a reason for that :p
|
hal1ax
07.10.17 | 89 & 98 a couple of my favs |
joesmoe4000
07.10.17 | hal1ax it would be cool if you could critic my hip hop list |
Deez
07.10.17 | Dude, Juggaknots- Clear Blue Skies
Close to criminal not being on this list. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Haha, hal1ax, the order has changed a bit since I edited it a bit after noticing a couple more I missed out. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | deezer666, I still haven't heard that and have been meaning to for a long time. |
Deez
07.10.17 | Mate, For real. Judging by this list you will love it. Its HIGH up for me.
Also Gravediggaz should be on here yo.
Smif n Wessun -The Shining
Da Grassroots Passage Through Time
People Without Shoes - Thoughts Of An Optimist
Main Source- Breaking atoms |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | deezer666, I need to listen to all of those man. I've heard The Shining but it needs a re-listen, Gravediggaz I don't think I've heard the album of. Also will check the rest out soon. The main reason I did this list is because I don't like most of the ones I've seen and also for reccomendations/reminders of what I've been sleeping on. |
Deez
07.10.17 | First Gravediggaz only (6 feet deep) rest suck. First is gold. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Alright, I'll check 6 Feet Deep in the next few days. |
Drifter
07.10.17 | The fact that people without shoes only has 2 ratings on here is such a shameeeeee
Classic album, I might 5 it tbh |
Kman418
07.10.17 | check koopsta knicca |
joesmoe4000
07.10.17 | if he hasn't already should check out Mystic Stylez |
Deez
07.10.17 | Yeah was gonna say^^^
Drifter I put in on teh database about 2 weeks ago. Wasnt even here :( |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Drifter, yea looked it up and saw there was only two ratings, I'm very keen to hear it. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Yea I've gotta listen to some Three Six Mafia. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | deezer666 Six Feet Deep is awesome, love the energy. The production is amazing, didn't even know Prince Paul worked with RZA, love the craziness and overall subject matter. It doesn't quite make this list for me though, I'm working on a part 2. Breaking Atoms is also awesome, I can't believe I only just listened to it. Great production and very important subjects are raised on it. It also doesn't quite make the list for one reason for another but is great enough for the part 2 as well. Da Shinnin' on the other hand has great atmosphere, dark and gritty beats that are atmospheric as hell. Great NY street raps, love the subject matter and styles of the MC's, there personalities really mesh and it's one of the best albums I've actually heard. Clear Blue Skies is also a classic and both deserve a place on this list for sure, it was right up my alley. Very inventive lyricism and unique style, I was in awe throughout. Pretty much perfect production and one I can see myself going back to forever. I still need to spin the other two and probably will today, I'll get back to you on that. |
Deez
07.10.17 | Great stuff my man. Yeah that Juggaknots record is literally perfect man. Its still massively slept on. Breeze Brewins lyricism on it is god tier. The whole thing is. |
Masochist
07.10.17 | The glaring omissions I can see are 'Straight Outta Compton' and 'The Chronic' |
Trundle
07.10.17 | three Atmosphere albums, but no Jeru the Damaja?
Still a great list though |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | deezer666 yea after listening to it I was surprised to see that not many people had actually rated it, it should be considered as essential as The Cold Vein and Madvillian IMO and yes literally perfect. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Masochist I'm actually a big fan of both of those albums, they get regular play. But I don't think they are two of the most well polished Hip Hop albums ever. For example I think the last song on each of them don't fit and they each have a few songs that I would consider filler. Not like everything on here is perfect but for some reason I can only put those two in my Part 2 list. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Laeddis I'm a bit biased towards Atmosphere and also The Roots I guess. My favorite Hip Hop discographies are The Roots, El-P, Atmosphere and Masta Ace so that's where the Atmosphere bias comes in. As for Jeru, The Sun Rises In The East was definitely considered but I wouldn't know what to replace it with, glad you like the list. |
Orb
07.10.17 | Nice Typical Cats inclusion |
Trundle
07.10.17 | @God, that's sick man, Must have been tough narrowing down Masta Ace's discog.
|
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Evokaphile glad you like the inclusion, I was waiting for someone to mention that classic. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Laeddis Yea very tough, I wanted Slaughtahouse and Take a look around on here as well but decided to givers others a fair chance lol but yea Ace's disog's on another level of perfection. |
Drifter
07.10.17 | Oh yeah check
Hieroglyphics - Full Circle
So so so good |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Drifter I was just listening to that for the second time and it's going on this list once I edit it, amazing album. |
Drifter
07.10.17 | Niiiiccceeeeee |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Thanks Drifter, Liquid Swords could arguably be number 1. This is just in alphabetical order, don't know how I'd rank these. |
L4titudes
07.10.17 | Actually 49 is 49 cause G is the 7th letter of the alphabet there happens to be 48 albums alphabetically behind it. |
GodLovesUgly
07.10.17 | Haha L4titudes, Word. |
L4titudes

GodLovesUgly
07.11.17 | Yes Clear Blue Skies is a masterpiece haha, I'm gonna edit this list a bit later because there are a few that need to be added and I think I know what to replace. |

LeftyMcRighty
07.11.17 | Great list, God |
joesmoe4000
07.11.17 | if your open to other genres of music i can't recommend "Michael Franti And Spearhead - Home" enough.it's truly a '90s masterpiece that fuses Funk,Soul/R&B,Folk & Rock like no other album but at the heart it's a Hip Hop album with great depth & thought provoking lyrics.all the tracks are truly gems but the select tracks to give you a idea of what this group is like would be "Dream Team" & "Crime To Be Broke In America".it's sad how underrated & forgotten this album is today as all the songs messages ring as true as the day they were recorded. |
joesmoe4000
07.11.17 | also speaking of Memphis Hip Hop you need to check out 8ball and MJG - Comin' Out Hard if you haven't already it's the epitome of Memphis Hip Hop! |
Drifter
07.12.17 | ^^^^^^^^^
Used to love that album to death but kinda overplayed it I think. The sampling is to die for |
Drifter
07.12.17 | Also, not sure if you're really into the style, but Paris' album Guerrilla Funk is tied for my all time fav rap album, and literally had goat production (all by himself too) |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | Thanks LeftyMcRighty, glad you liked it. |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | joesmoe4000 yea I'm definitely open to other genres, I'm not one of those people that only listens to Hip Hop. So I'm always open to explore music from any genre, I'm vaguely familiar with Michael Franti And Spearhead as I've heard a few songs. Definitely need to hear an album though so I'll make the first Home and I'll quickly check those two tracks for sure. |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | I've heard of Comin" Out Hard but yes have been sleeping on the Memphis ish'. I know 8Ball & MJG are very popular so it's about time I check that album. |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | Drifter oh Paris, I've heard at least a few tracks from him. Very political, sort of like PE and Dead Prez?, I'll give that album a go. |
Drifter
07.12.17 | Yeah he's VERY political but its a lil toned down on that album and its gfunk heaven. That and his album Unleashed are very west coast and much less political than something like Devil Made Me Do It and Sleeping With The Enemy |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | Yea I thought so, Political rap is all good but can get annoying lol. The fact that the album is toned down with a G-Funk aspect makes me very interested. |
joesmoe4000
07.12.17 | kirblagoop that sh*t is steaming garbage! |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | nocuffin I'm open for suggestions but after listening to the first song on that it doesn't seem up my alley at all, might get to in eventually though. |
GodLovesUgly
07.12.17 | joesmoe4000 Haha oh shit. |
