12.29.16 | Would like to get some opinions on this. |
DoofusWainwright
12.29.16 | It's an acknowledgement of enjoying something kitsch or tasteless not a self defence mechanism |
FullOfSounds
12.29.16 | Basically stuff you don't want to admit you like |
Snide
12.29.16 | "It's an acknowledgement of enjoying something kitsch or tasteless not a self defence mechanism"
But most of the time, its only considered tasteless due to its reputation, and thus the guilt comes from enjoying something with a bad rep |
DoofusWainwright
12.29.16 | Sometimes the artist in question is knowingly producing something that's a bit of a guilty pleasure in their eyes too - they're in on it too |
DinosaurJones
12.29.16 | What FullOfSounds said. It's something you say to keep people from giving you shit about stuff that is typically maligned.
Fuck that, man. Own that shit. You should never feel ashamed of what you love.
There is nothing cooler than being proud about what you love. FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, SNIDE. |

12.29.16 | @BlackMalachite Not really. I call City of Caterpillar a guilty pleasure despite having a 4.1 average on the site. |

12.29.16 | Also, I like about 3 songs by the Bunny the Bear. |
DoofusWainwright
12.29.16 | I think people are more at ease with the idea for movies (splatter horror stuff or gross out comedies for example) or TV shows but less comfortable with the idea when it comes to music (maybe people inherently take music more seriously?) |
Snide
12.29.16 | @Dinosaur: Haha thanks man, and yeah I really used to dig a lot of TBTB's music.
@Sandwich: Why would you feel as though COC is a guilty pleasure?
@Doofus: I mean for satirical projects sure but I only see that being relevant like 0.5% of the time. People take music far more seriously than any media format. |

12.29.16 | i dont have guilty pleasures at this point, im an open book mate |
SandwichBubble
12.29.16 | @BlackMalachite dunno! I gave it a 5 (one of the newest albums in my 5s) and it's the only "hardcore/emo" I've given such a high score to. I don't discredit it by saying it's a guilty pleasure. I'm just saying that compared to a lot of the other things I like (jazz, punk, psychedelic, electronic), it kind of sticks out.
Now that I think about it, I think Vengaboys would've been a better example of a guilty pleasure for me. |
Snide
12.29.16 | If a lot of your 5s also happen to be punk, I don't think COC would stand out TOO much.
@Guitarded: I know you're an open book, and I love your commentary on my music tbh, some of that shit made me laugh pretty hard. |
onionbubs
12.29.16 | I once heard todd in the shadows describe a guilty pleasure as something you "like while being painfully aware of it's flaws and not really being able to explain why". That's kind of what i stick to when thinking about what id call a "guilty pleasure". Tho im normally pretty open about what i like
I sense this is probably what your next video is gonna be |
