| Check 'n' Rec
Step one: check out one of these underrated beauties. Step two: rec me a sweet album in return. Step three: we shoutbox each other what we each thought. Alright hakuna matata muad'Dib let's do this shit | 1 | | Faun Fables Mother Twilight
Really beautiful hypnotic folk. Only three ratings on this site c'mon folks. 4.5/5 | 2 | | Idiot Flesh Fancy
Genre-hopping, gravity-defying madness. The 5est of 5s imo | 3 | | The Jesus Lizard Blue
This album is rarely talked about, and when it is it is slandered to fuck. Personally I really like it... the noise rock of tJL captured in high def, with some weird 90s electronic shit woven in there. Underrated for sure. 4/5 | 4 | | The All Seeing Hand Mechatronics
Amazing throat-singing futuristic metal w/e from my neck of the woods. You ain't heard this sort of thing before. 4.5/5 | 5 | | Doprah Wasting
Another rec from New Zealand, really pretty trip-hop. If you like Bjork, Portishead, Massive Attack etc you'll rate this. Been trying to get this album some love on this site. 4.5/5 | 6 | | KMFDM Naive
My favourite industrial album, which is funny considering this is so much more focused and poppy than industrial usually is. Replete with driving beats, [sic] riffs and 80s pop cheesiness. 5/5 | 7 | | Lustmord The Word As Power
An album pretty much entirely composed of the human voice, and pretty much entirely better than when Bjork tried it. Features great m8s such as Maynard, Jarboe and Soriah. 4.5/5 | 8 | | Fantomas Delirium Cordia
A single track, 75 minutes long, that plays like the most chilling horror soundtrack ever. There are long stretches of ambience, broken up by explosions of avant-metal and noise. Doesn't get more atmospheric than this. Mike Patton at his best imo. 5/5 | 9 | | My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult 13 Above The Night
Industrial crossed with disco amidst wacky samples and a sense of sexual abandon. If you enjoy this album, check Sexplosion! next. 4/5 | 10 | | Scorn Zander
Hypnotic dark electronic / dub from two guys that were in Napalm Death. Almost an early dubstep vibe. Only seven votes on this site, absolutely criminal 4/5 | 11 | | The Necks Hanging Gardens
A very talented jazz trio from Aussie doing their thing. The fact they can sustain such an interesting groove for a solid hour is impressive in itself. Oh, and the music rules 4/5 | 12 | | Ufomammut Eve
A concept album about the Fall of Man, in five sweeping movements. I'm no expert on doom metal but this is some wonderful stuff 5/5 | 13 | | Zahava Seewald and Michael Grebil From My Mother's House
Spoken word, musique concrete. With no shortage of chilling moments and only 10 ratings on this site, this is the album for you 4/5 | 14 | | Agnes Obel Aventine
Crazy this only has 69 ratings, when it is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. Classical folk stuff with an absolutely stunning voice. The instruments are all quite close-miced, so you can just about taste the resin on her cello... ;] intimate and emotional indeed. 5/5 | 15 | | Diamanda Galas The Divine Punishment
A concept album about the AIDS epidemic, and how victims of it were treated by institutions like the church. What this woman is capable of doing with her voice shouldn't be legal. Vocal jazz, avant-garde, progressive, harrowing, terrifying, adjective 5/5 | |
