10.12.15 | Cool list concept. I mean, quite a lot of young adults seem to dig this stuff, including me sort of. I like 3-5 of these albums |

10.12.15 | YA lit is possibly the worst shit ever |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | so where would Brand New fit in the spectrum of YA literature? |
Supercoolguy64
10.12.15 | been interested in ellen hopkins stuff. her books, based on what ive read up about, seem super fucking sad |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | make sense bc ya lit is like the only thing i can stand to read these days tbh |

10.12.15 | Only book I know here is Looking For Alaska but it's pretty good.
But in general both pop punk and YA lit are shit so they definitely have that in common. |

10.12.15 | more like poop punk agreed |
TheWrenKing
10.12.15 | I like 1 album (cttm) and 1 book (wallflower) o' this list. the same type of people listen to/read these genres
looking for alaska is pretty much as bad as any other shit john green has put out, it's all try-hard bullshit |
CaimanJesus
10.12.15 | I didn't know LA lit was filled with pedophiles |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | john green's ya stuff is pretty bleh tbh.
also 9 is simultaneously really cool but also stupidly frustrating |
TheWrenKing
10.12.15 | from what i've read of Levithan i wasn't too impressed, but i never read his solo stuff, just those awful collabs he did |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | the one one where the dude got his head attached to another dude's body was also simultaneously really cool but stupidly frustrating (FOR BASICALLY THE EXACT SAME REASON TOO!? WTFFFF).
^dude, what collabs we talkin' tho? i might've seen them myself. |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | Last YA book I remember reading was 'Fat Kid Rules The World'
it wasn't bad... |
TheWrenKing
10.12.15 | the one with john green and the one with rachel cohn, dash and lily's something or other

Cygnatti
10.12.15 | book of dares? i think i saw that in the bookstore, might peep or something.
ooh ooh, i read one where this guy was the kid of a world famous serial killer with all that angst and guilt and shit. was p cool imo. |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | 16 and 19 are prolific af but they seem like they're guaranteed to be god awful urgh |

10.12.15 | so its shallow and boring with lots of random emotions thrown in? not all pop punk is like that... |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | James Patterson's stuff is generally awful |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | at least 99% of it is. the only example i can think of that isn't is like saves the day - stay what you are. |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | james patterson is like the pitbull of all literature. inserts himself where he's really not welcome, a diluted understanding of people (i'm mostly referring to his outlandishly stereotypical and melodramatic kid/teen/ya work) and even when he pulls of a decent concept or gimmick, he always finds countless ways to ruin it. |

I really hope nobody makes a movie out of his Maximum Ride/Daniel X books because my god do they suck hard |

10.12.15 | I remember being 10 and reading the Alex Rider/Harry Potter books and checking out the first Maximum Ride book and thinking "oh my GOD this is awful"
it was THAT bad |

Cygnatti
10.12.15 | yeah it was in the comics section at the bookstore the other day but ain't ever even seen the movie or the book so idk if wanna read it. |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | harry potter is basically the godfather of the fantasy based branch of modern ya lit (the branch that really suuuuuucks). |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | agreed |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | nothing against harry potter tbh (i quite like the idea of it all), not what's her faces fault she inspired terrible fiction. |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | too many copycats missing what made Harry Potter good to begin with |
zakalwe
10.12.15 | How's potter young adult?
It's a fucking cracking read whatever your age but come on its blatant kid fodder. |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | well, the first novels obviously (hence, the ones every knows about and always refer to), but not the last few. |
Mort.
10.12.15 | only YA i still enjoy is the chaos walking trilogy by patrick ness

10.12.15 | "last YA i read was hunger games and it was shiiiiiiiiiit"
yeah the 1st book was decent but it quickly went downhill after that |
Cygnatti
10.12.15 | still haven't read or watched any hunger gamez :x |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | if you do ever get around to it check the first book, skip everything else |

10.12.15 | How though? The Hunger Games is one of the fastest paced and easily digestible books I've ever read. I'm pretty sure I read the first book in like a day and a half. I thought the second book was quality too, but the third one was pretty shit.
Goddammit, commented too slow
@shark in regards to The Hunger Games |
SharkTooth
10.12.15 | "I probably got distracted by something else, might've been that gone series by michael grant"

10.12.15 | think pop punk suits it better, it's awful but in a comforting kind of way |
zakalwe
10.12.15 | In fairness I forgot 8yr olds now class themselves as opinionated, emotionally balanced, self serving well rounded individuals all getting their minds blown by Albert Camus and demanding to be part of a young persons union who hold sway with the voters and carry the voice of a generation to the policy makers.

1st book is great from start to finish imo, but I could see how someone wouldn' be interested in it, especially when you compare it to a series like GONE |

lol we were 17 then. qt basic white girls are still kinda qt.

Agreed, the first two books were pretty quality, and quite enjoyable, but the last was just bland. Good thing they decided to split that one up into two movies. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | Anyone remember the shaky-cam from the first Hunger Games movie? |
CaimanJesus
10.13.15 | I try to not remember that movie |

10.13.15 | it started out good but damn did that shaky cam get old fast lol |
CaimanJesus
10.13.15 | How many movies did they make? |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | there will be 5 in total by the end of November(1 for the first book, 2 for the 2nd, and 2 for the 3rd) |
CaimanJesus
10.13.15 | Wow, they're really milking it |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | "Anyone remember the shaky-cam from the first Hunger Games movie?"
Fucking yes, sucked so much. The cornucopia fight scene is supposed to be all the 12 year olds getting cut up but all you see is shaky sword slashes before Katniss runs away from it all and takes the cameras with her :/
Also I'm pretty sure there's only 4 movies, it's the last book they split in two |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | idk I heard that the Catching Fire movie ended at the book's halfway point or something so I assumed it was a 2-parter(haven't actually seen that movie) |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | Nah it was the whole book, Mockingjay pt 1 was pretty boring though |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | I figured, the book was only interesting at the uprising/war battle part, otherwise I dunno if anything actually happens in that book |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | Nah just some political bullshit and all the propaganda videos. It was visually pretty great but the storyline is just not strong enough to be split into two (individually overlong) movies imo. |
Cygnatti
10.13.15 | Shaky cam in maze runner was pretty bad in key moments of action too. Kinda felt purposefully lazy tbh. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | did the ending suck like it did with the book? From what I've read the movie is better than the book in that aspect |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | and by suck I mean it's one of the worst endings I have ever read and was a severe letdown to the book's potential |
Cygnatti
10.13.15 | I can't quite remember the ending except that some kid dies, they get out but "it's only just begun!" And obvious set up to sequel is obscenely obvious. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | So the ending's as shit as it was in the book thanks for telling me
btw don't check out the sequel, the book is much worse, so the movie will be bottom of the barrel |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | [2]
don't watch movies based off shit books |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | The ending of the first movie was pretty unsatisfying but I guess it has to be so there's interest in the second movie. By the way, having not read the book I wasn't expecting all the zombie stuff and I was actually pleasantly surprised by some of the grittiness and the darker scenes. I wasn't expecting a movie of its kind to be as raw as it was. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | the book had the kids battling spiked slug robots just so y'all know |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | Wow wtf? |
Cygnatti
10.13.15 | sach dude i'm poor af
honestly not too interested in being an elitist in film or books
i jus wanna have a good time ._. |
Cygnatti
10.13.15 | "spiked slug robots" wtf? |

that's what made me so excited to read it honestly, the opening chapters are fantastic, and Dashner really knows how to construct a believable yet scary world out of a gigantic constantly transforming maze, but near the end the whole plot just takes all of that potential and throws it out the window by rushing the ending and hyping a sequel(and that sequel is shit) |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | "don't watch movies based off shit books"
Or shit movies based off great books (fucking Eragon) |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | @Shark, the second half of my phrase I was actually talking about the sequel (the movie) I'd actually reccomend it, better than the first imo. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | that's a pleasant surprise tbh, the book had nothing going on in it whatsoever |
Keyblade
10.13.15 | speaking of slugs and ya lit, i've been watching that old animorphs series lately |
Cygnatti
10.13.15 | animorphs is a old time fav of my big bro. never got too into but i can haz appreciate |
Keyblade
10.13.15 | i wish i could get my hands on the books, it was some good shit. really dark too for its target audience damn |
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | "that's a pleasant surprise tbh, the book had nothing going on in it whatsoever"
It was basically a solid zombie movie for the middle part, I'd compare it a little bit to resident evil with the corporations and stuff too. But yeah they leave a guy with a gun to shoot himself when he gets infected which is pretty cool. |
SharkTooth
10.13.15 | I remember being in elementary school and looking at the covers thinking they were seriously cool shit |

i will never get the love for that book, i thought it dragged on with nothing unique to it
|
ScuroFantasma
10.13.15 | You've gotta read the whole series man, the first book is a little slow I suppose, but the remaining three are excellent, and if they had done the movie right it could've been the next LOTR imo. |
Mort.
10.13.15 | i remember really liking a good part of it, then getting tremendously bored and hating the ending, might give it another try one day when im next in the mood for that sort of thing |
ScuroFantasma
10.14.15 | Go for it man, I've read the series a few times (I really love it) and of the books I'd say the first is the least interesting (still really good though imo) but it definitley picks up from there. |
