JamieTwort
09.19.15 | lol listening to black metal in the summer |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | This looks like the soundtrack to a terrible summer tbh. |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | It was rather depressing, in fact. m/ |
Keyblade
09.19.15 | looks like a really bleak summer man |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | I'm still alive because of what I didn't put on this list, tehe. |
ScuroFantasma
09.19.15 | 22 is cool |
Mewcopa0
09.19.15 | 1, and 3 are pretty boring. I just bought 26 though, and 48 is really awesome. |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | lol @ letting seasons dictate what you listen to
Keep BM'ing brotha m/ what I've heard from this list is great |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | 1 is nothing new, but riffs are solid. 3 is more rewarding if you let the atmosphere settle in.
--Boring summer? I think not. |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | "lol @ letting seasons dictate what you listen to"
lol @ seasons not effecting what you feel like listening to as they naturally do for anyone who appreciates all that music can evoke. |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | lol @ thinking music suddenly stops "evoking" emotions because the temperature changed
also *affecting |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | I'm not saying my music taste doesn't change at all with the seasons but to say you have to give up on a whole genre because it's summer is stupid as fuck |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | "lol @ thinking music suddenly stops "evoking" emotions because the temperature changed"
Didn't say that so not sure who you're lol'ing at
and thanks. |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | "lol listening to black metal in the summer"
refer back to your first comment pls |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | So, yeah. Black Metal is a four season thing now. |
adr
09.19.15 | lol @ letting seasons dictate what you listen to [2] |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | "refer back to your first comment pls"
Edited my previous comment so you now know what I meant.
and even referring to my original post its pretty obvious I was referring to the fact that he seemingly listened almost exclusively to black metal. Besides for me it's more like "lol @ listening to black metal, period" so we'll leave it there I think. |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | "lol @ letting seasons dictate what you listen to [2]"
and yeah I agree with this, obviously seasons shouldn't 'dictate' what you listen to but it's natural that they'd have an influence. |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | So why are you commenting at all? |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | Fair enough I guess. For real though you should try jamming some icy BM on a hot sunny day. It creates an interesting dichotomy between inner/outter self |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | @Dino: Because I clicked on this expecting to see summer influenced jams and got the complete opposite and thought I'd share my thoughts as others have done. |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | My apologies. As i'm sure you have noticed, I have since changed the title. |
hal1ax
09.19.15 | ehh i think there is some truth to the weather playing a role in your music selection. at least for me, the weather affects my mood, and then what i listen to is typically contingent of my mood. |
Dinosaur
09.19.15 | Rain/Stormy weather may affect my music choices, as may night/day. Season is less important. |
wacknizzle
09.19.15 | Good list, I listened to alot of bm this summer too |
deathschool
09.19.15 | Well, thread went to shit impressively fast
(It was mostly Jamie, though) |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | "tbh black metal is best in summer."
lol
I can only entertain the idea of listening to black metal in the winter/autumn (bar first wave black metal, that is). |
JamieTwort
09.19.15 | and yes discussing music and seasons (essentially the topic of this list) totally ruined the thread. |
deathschool
09.19.15 | I didn't say he gave you a lot to work with. |
SCREAM!
09.19.15 | You should try it in the summer. Great way to cool down on a hot day |
Dinosaur
09.20.15 | Has anyone listened to the new Mare Cognitum yet? curious as to opinions. |
JamieTwort
09.20.15 | Haha I very much doubt that. I've listenined to black metal-ish stuff in the sunshine before and it sounds/feels so fucking wrong it's unbelievable. |
JamieTwort
09.20.15 | Seriously though, to me, the idea of black metal sounding best in the summer is absurd. I know 99% of black metal fans would say it's more suited to wintry conditions anyway but for the sake of discussing your particular opinion, I can't help but feel that if something like black metal with a cold, wintry atmosphere (I know this isn't necessarily applicable to all black metal) can't be best appreciated in the conditions which best suit it or even influenced it then its probably not that well executed. The idea of needing that contrast or dichotomy to appreciate it more isn't doing anything to counter my negative views on black metal. In fact the one quality black metal has for me is it's suitability to the autumn and winter seasons and how it becomes so much more evocative when the weather conditions are perfectly suited to the atmosphere it is trying to create. |
Keyblade
09.20.15 | i mean, i'm not going to knock anyone for doing it but it's just not for me. even though it's summer 365 days a year here, i only really put on bm when it's rainy or hazy/overcast. how imma listen to some bleak shit on a beautiful day lol.
maybe that's the inspiration behind sunbather? damn i think i have a newfound appreciation for that album |
JamieTwort
09.20.15 | Well it's called...
no wait I could go on forever with wintry examples. |
JamieTwort
09.20.15 | Yeah I'm talking about what it's become not what is was born out of. |
SCREAM!
09.20.15 | If you only listen to under a funeral moon in the winter you're missing out on a whole summers worth of funeral moons! |
Dinosaur
09.20.15 | 2nd wave Norwegian Black Metal is rather "winter-y," but there is so much atmospheric/folk themed stuff out there focusing a whole different aesthetic. BM can be crude, minimalist, but also ambient, and uplifting--just depends. forget seasons, though. |
JamieTwort
09.20.15 | "atmospheric/folk themed stuff"
That's the stuff that appeals to me more in the autumn/winter months. Like I actually enjoy some of it then. |
TheSpirit
09.20.15 | Props on Erraunt, that EP is so fucking good. |
hal1ax
09.20.15 | ya i can't enjoy Paysage when it's 95 degrees. i just can't |

09.20.15 | i know.. i was just trying to listen to das tor yesterday while it was 95 degrees aaaaand it felt fuckkin weird |

09.20.15 | FWIW 8, 17 and 18 (two name a few) seem better in the spring/summer. |
