06.03.15 | Congrats man. Means you're one step ahead of me right now. Don't know, if I could do that job (10 hour physical work could kill me), but by now I would probably take even that one.
Anyway, you're somewhat free now or will be soon enough. Get wasted to celebrate that! |

06.04.15 | I worked in a warehouse once and it sucked so much. It was a feed packing plant, and I filled, sewed, and stacked 50 pounds of animal feed all day long for 3 months straight. My hands were so swollen and numb from the constant work that I couldn't form a fist for a month after leaving the job. I didn't feel my fingers for months. It was hot work, busy work, endless work, and the most tedious thing in the world.
Not to rain on your parade man... you might like it. I bet Amazon is better than that employer was, but it's a rough job.
I'm an electrician now and I love it. It's still manual labor, but it takes smarts and creativity, every day is different, and I get to work outside in the mountains. So I'd recommend that for sure if you want to undertake a massive commitment like that. |

06.04.15 | I've had a few warehouse jobs in the past and they're pretty much as bad as it can get. It'll whoop your ass into shape though. |

06.04.15 | ^^ That's for sure. I lifted 1,000,000 pounds in total in one month at the warehouse job I used to have. It sucked, but I put on some good muscle. |

06.08.15 | Kinda late but I worked at an Amazon warehouse a couple summers back. There's a reason why the job is so easy to land, the job was brutal. Of course it depends where you'll be working in the warehouse, but pickers have it the worst. I started out on a receiving line (scanning in inventory) and it was mind-numbingly boring. You stand in one spot for your whole shift with little to no thought process whatsoever.
A few months in, they were understaffed in the stowing department and they needed receivers to switch over. Since my buddy was working in stowing, I figured I'd volunteer so we'd at least be working together...man did I ever regret that. The rates you have to maintain were inhumane. There was hardly any space in the warehouse to put anything, and the managers were always on everybody's asses to go faster...one time my annoying manager came up to me to "show me how it's done", and couldn't find space to put a single book in the aisle I was in. That shut her up for the day...
Anyways, I did a few odd jobs here and there, but those were the two areas I was most experienced with. Believe it or not, I was one of the most senior of the picking crew by the time I left... the turnover rate was absolutely ridiculous. I don't mean to scare you out of the job, but I'm just letting you know the work was rough in the warehouse I was in. There's no way I would've lasted any longer than 4 months there. Hopefully they care a bit more about the employees where you're at because it was hands down the worst job i've ever had. |
