Not a horror, but fucking intense and very upsetting on a deeper level than many war movies
|
Hawks
07.31.14 | The Changeling is the scariest movie I've ever seen. Might have something to do with me being like 7 when I first saw it, but it still scares the shit outta me to this day. |
Hyperion1001
07.31.14 | oh hell yeah hawks, the changeling is still creepy as fuck. probably the oldest horror movie i know thats actually frightening |
Calc
07.31.14 | a serbian film |
Clumseee
07.31.14 | Blair Witch is easily the scariest movie I've ever seen.
Fucking terrifying. |
Gwyn.
07.31.14 | "The Changeling is the scariest movie I've ever seen. Might have something to do with me being like 7 when I first saw it, but it still scares the shit outta me to this day."
hahaa, I actually randomly came across this movie when I was like, 7 or maybe 8 while randomly channel surfing, just about 10 minutes into the movie actually and I'm pretty sure it was 8pm or something, I barely got any sleep that night, I got so paranoid I swore I was hearing things
Don't think I've ever seen it since then though |
Hawks
07.31.14 | Fuck yeah bros. I love horror movies and that's still the only one that had me scared to the point that I couldn't sleep. Truly
terrifying, creepy shit. |
Amphoteric
07.31.14 | Idk, The Conjuring was pretty good. |
Hawks
07.31.14 | The Conjuring was the shit. Was just gonna say that's one of the best horror movies of recent years. At least that I can remember. |
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | Apocalypse Now ruins my life just about every time I watch it. It's real in a way no horror movie can be. |
FourthDyke
07.31.14 | the conjuring was ok the end got ridiculous tho, i really dont have any recs because as you said nothing has really scared me since i was a youngin. that 9/11 documentary about the people jumping off the towers is probably the most frightening thing ive seen recently |
wwf
07.31.14 | The Exorcist scared me good. Blair Witch was kinda scary but when I rewatched it it didn't bother me at all. The Shining is really creepy. The Silence of The Lambs can be very unnerving, especially the ambulance scene. The Descent is claustrophobic as fuck and gave me nightmares. And The Thing and Alien aren't exactly scary, more just incredibly good at racking up tension, which is just as good. |
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | The Silence Of The Lambs disturbed me deeply, particularly when it's mentioned that Lecter made Miggs kill himself just by talking to him. |
wwf
07.31.14 | I honestly don't want to see Apocalypse Now ever because it just seems too disturbing |
FourthDyke
07.31.14 | it's not that bad quite interesting actually, kind of a need to see movie if you have not |
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | It's an essential movie and from a filmmaking standpoint is just about flawless |
wwf
07.31.14 | Maybe I'll give it a watch sometime, I think it's on Netflix
Speaking of Netflix, it's not very scary but Let The Right One In is a gorgeously made horror movie on netflix. And VHS has some of the scariest segments I've seen in film recently but most of the segments are just cheesy |
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | yeah it just got put on there like a month ago |
Insurrection
07.31.14 | the texas chainsaw massacre is the only movie that really terrified me, and i was like 18 when i first saw it. it stuck with me for days. the thing i first saw when i was like 9 and it disturbed me then but now i just see it as a really good horror movie, not necessarily scary
the conjuring, 1408, the descent, the others, youre next, and cabin in the woods are great recent horror movies. havent seen the new purge which looks good but the first one sucked ass |
Hawks
07.31.14 | Idk dude I thought the first Purge was pretty great too. New one looks even better though. Gotta see it soon. |
Calc
07.31.14 | VHS 1 and 2 were very entertaining agreed, the whole Taiwanese cult thing on VHS 2 in particular was so damn awesome. |
Insurrection
07.31.14 | the first one started out good but got worse and worse until the end when it just fell flat. the second one looks a lot more interesting
and yeah the VHS movies are great. also event horizon and session 9 (i think they took s9 off netflix but event horizon is still there) |
Clumseee
07.31.14 | Yeah, the V/H/S have some good moments.
Anyone seen You're Next?
Not too scary, but a really well written horror film, one of the best in the past 15 years for sure. |
Insurrection
07.31.14 | it was funny as hell too |
Hawks
07.31.14 | I was skeptical about You're Next and never checked it. Guess I should now.
Heard of the VHS movies too, but never thought much of it. Should probably get on those too. Think they're on Netflix. |
wwf
07.31.14 | I was stoked for You're Next but honestly I thought the straight up horror scenes were better than the scenes that were supposed to be funny. Cabin In The Woods was hilarious though
And yeah, the cult part of VHS2 was great |
wwf
07.31.14 | I loved the flashing light scene in You're Next so much. Reminded me of Alien, which is another great one. Oh yeah and Sharni Vinson's hot as shit |
Insurrection
07.31.14 | youre next is like the ideal home invasion thriller. the best one ive seen at least
as far as paranormal horror goes i dont think it gets any better than 1408, although the conjuring came pretty damn close. oh, and the original the haunting. that shit was harrowing |
Hawks
07.31.14 | 1408 was another one I wanted to check damn I'm slacking. |
Veldin
07.31.14 | Evil Dead 2 |
MyNameIsPencil
07.31.14 | [REC] and The Descent. Jesus Christ The Decent made me never wanna go cave exploring ever |

07.31.14 | and not that shitty american one with kristin bell
its japanese name is kiaro i think |
Froot
07.31.14 | Not necessarily a movie, but the first 30 or so videos of Marble Hornets had me petrified when I first watched them. I mean, like, constantly-looking-over-my-shoulder petrified. Many sleepless nights were had. |
DrJohn
07.31.14 | The Conjuring was pretty good [2]
Ju-on and Ringu [2] plus the Pang Brothers' original "The Eye".
"The sixth sense" is a must. |
insanedrexl1
07.31.14 | Kuchisake-onna is also pretty creepy |
DominionMM1
07.31.14 | "Apocalypse Now ruins my life just about every time I watch it. It's real in a way no horror movie can be."
agreed. i feel the same about the deer hunter too. |
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | The Deer Hunter at least has the God Bless America coda to remind us that life goes on. Apocalypse Now just has "the horror..." and no credits. |
Slut
07.31.14 | Horror genre is garbage for the most part |

07.31.14 | Most German expressionism films creep me out.

DrJohn
07.31.14 | ^ I don't think the guy asking for recs is referring to atmosphere tbh. Nosferatu is a classic. |
Gmork89
07.31.14 | Check out Lord of Tears, one of my favorites in recent memory. |
insanedrexl1
07.31.14 | Der Golem, Faust, Cabinet of Dr Caligari and of course, Nosferatu are all classic movies. |
DrJohn
07.31.14 | I haven't seen Der Golem. |
Hawks
07.31.14 | House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects for sure. Probably my two fav horror movies ever tbh. |
emester
07.31.14 | I prefer Devil's Rejects WAY more than 1000 Corpses
|
YoYoMancuso
07.31.14 | "I kinda hated God Bless America tbh"
haha i wasn't talking about that movie, they sing the song at the end of The Deer Hunter |
Hawks
07.31.14 | I like House of 1000 Corpses more, but both are classic to me. |
Br00talK1d
07.31.14 | The BEST "scary" movie I saw was V/H/S and V/H/S/2. It's not scary for me but it's made very very well. |
DrJohn
07.31.14 | Why is "Seven" not mentioned yet? |
laucha1266
07.31.14 | 9/11 ... oh wait that wasnt a movie right?

Insurrection
07.31.14 | i wouldnt call seven a horror movie but its one of my fav serial killer movies ever probably |
ExplosiveOranges
07.31.14 | Cannibal Holocaust. |
DrJohn
07.31.14 | ^^ the horror factor of "Seven" lies on >> it could happen in reality, unlike the vast majority of films mentioned here. |
Insurrection
07.31.14 | thats true and it definitely had the atmosphere of a scary movie, and the premise itself was pretty disturbing too |
DrJohn
07.31.14 | yep |
InfamousGrouse
08.01.14 | oh please seven is so melodramatic i doubt it could be rooted in reality |
lyzakthellama
08.01.14 | GuanoBumbershoot Dude yeah, the interview at the end is one of the most unnerving scenes I've ever watched |
lyzakthellama
08.01.14 | oh please seven is so melodramatic i doubt it could be rooted in reality

08.01.14 | Melodramatic... Can you define the term and offer an example in Seven osculating it? |
Torontonian
08.12.14 | "The experiment" and "Funny games" still freak the shit out of me.

08.12.14 | Wasn't too good but Amber Alert was a really creepy movie. |
