| College Football And The Sec
i've been thinking about this a lot lately, so i figured i'd see if there's any college football fans here who care to discuss. although i know it's impossible and unrealistic, i was thinking of how different things would be if all teams had indoor arenas. being a michigan fan, it's unfortunate knowing that top recruits will almost always pick an sec school over michigan, despite it's storied history and impressive athletic program, simply because of the weather. who wants to play in ann arbor in the middle of december, when you can play in florida, louisiana, alabama, etc? it takes someone who has a personal connection, be it in the form of family history, relationship with coaching staff, or simple childhood dreams, to pick a school in a cold climate over an sec school. discuss yr thoughts. list is recent digs | 1 | | karate 595 (live)

01.09.13 | The thing is, its not about the cold climate on the field, but more so the climate off the field; they
don't really care about playing in cold weather, but they would rather spend their free time in a
warmer climate. As I Wisconsin fan I feel your pain but I don't think this would solve the any
problems and would also affect the traditional feel of a Michigan Stadium or Camp Randall. Obviously
weather does factor in, but the reason the SEC are dominant is because of the recruiting power they
have compared to the Big 10 or any other conference and the millions they spend to maintain that
dominance is unparalleled. | KjSwantko
01.09.13 | I think you're overestimating the importance of weather. Football is religion in the South; it's not surprising that players flock there. Plenty of Universities like the Michigans, Penn State, Oregon, Notre Dame, etc. have had plenty of success over the years and they're not exactly in warm weather climates. Players go to where they perceive themselves as having the greatest probability of winning.....and right now that is just clearly the SEC. |
