Going To Rifflandia

I'm going to a festival in Victoria, BC starting today for the weekend. The venues are various bars and clubs around Victoria, and the main stage is Royal Athletic Park. It should be pretty cool. It's a good local festival in its fifth year, and the acts they are already attracting are impressive. It is still based around a core of local artists, many of the big names being from the Vancouver/BC area.
1Christopher Arruda
God Hates A Coward

This guy is actually from my hometown of Nanaimo and a bunch of us know him.
Pretty great stuff in the singer-songwriter style. His live show is really good and
last time I saw him he did a really really good Nine Inch Nails cover.
2DJ Shadow
Endtroducing.....

One of the acts I am most excited for, and he is also playing at Market Square
which I'm hoping could be a great venue.
3Kode9 and the Spaceape
Black Sun

Kode9 - UK dubstep legend, owner of Hyperdub records.
4Killer Mike
R.A.P. Music

time conflict with Kode 9, picking the dub obviously
5Brasstronaut
Mount Chimaera

Good local band that mixes in elements of jazz. I saw them before once and the
highlight of the show was definitely the electric clarinet.
6The Flaming Lips
Embryonic

I'm very impressed that this Vancouver Island based festival managed to get The
Flaming Lips, as the crowd will be no more than 7,000. Anyway, I am very excited
to see these guys, more so because when I saw them at Sasquatch 2011, they
didn't deal with their 2 hour timeslot well, and didn't play half of what they meant
to. Being, arguably, the main act of the festival, I imagine they will be able to play
for as long as they feel they need to.
7Lunice
One Hunned

One half of TNGHT. Should be a sick show.
8Fucked Up
The Chemistry of Common Life

Toronto based hardcore band. They conflict with Lunice though and I'm not the
hugest fan.
9The Jezabels
Prisoner

Australian Indie Pop band, pretty good snag from the organizers at Rifflandia.
10Dan Mangan
Nice, Nice, Very Nice

This guy has become one of my favourite artists over the past couple of years, and
the fact that he's from Vancouver is a bonus. I'm really excited to finally see him
live. More people should really listen to this guy, check this:

11Cake
Fashion Nugget

I've not actually heard this band but I've heard good things.
12Sloan
The Double Cross

None of us really care to see this, but still hey look Sloan!
13 L-Vis 1990
Neon Dream

Conflicts with the next band. Josh and Denise will rave out here, will I fuck off to
Alix Goolden Hall for...
14The Antlers
Undersea

yayyyyyy. I saw them before at Sasquatch and they killed it. Seeing them in a
small indoor venue will be cool. I hope they play Endless Ladder from the new EP.
15Current Swell
Long Time Ago

A local band I've seen at a small festival before. They were very good, I haven't
listened to any of their music though.
16The Head And The Heart
The Head And The Heart

Another good local band, should be a good show.
17Hey Ocean!
Stop Looking Like Music

Yet another good local band. I'm really excited for this one though, cause I think
they might do a cover of my favourite Arcade Fire song.
18Reggie Watts
Why Shit So Crazy?

why indeed
19Everlast
Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford

I don't really know who this guy is but I guess I'm seeing him?
20Mother Mother
O My Heart

One of the leaders of the local indie rock scene, Mother Mother are a band that are
actually getting quite popular. I've liked all their music so far, but the single for the
new album is pretty bad. Anyway, I've seen them three times already and they
always put on a fun show, so this will be a good way to close the festival.
