The Mung - "The Splatter Sessions"

I finally picked up The Mung's Debut cd "The Splatter Sessions" a couple weeks ago after putting it off for so long.
I realised i should have listened to this alot sooner as this release really got my attention from the first track.

Clocking in at around 15 mins, The splatter sessions starts out with the intro, a dark, evil piece of old school horror music that flows perfectly into the grooviest riff your ears will ever be exposed to. The first thing that i really want to emphasize is the guitar and bass tones on this album.

The Guitar is thick, chunky and super defined, the bass tone is outstanding and doesnt get lost in the mix at any point.
I love the placement of the southern styled run down licks really super original and totally catches you off gaurd.

"You caught a yeast infection from a priest's erection" is next up and is probably my favourite track, it's also a perfect example of the cheeky southern run down licks. I love the vocals throughtout this whole album so much, having followed James's last band "Sludge" i knew what was in store. Brutal lows that churn your stomach and inhuman shrieks and moist noises that give me that same grin as when i listen to "Die Pigeon Die". The drumming is brilliant in this one following and adding so much groove and chaos to everything.

The third track "Penetrating the plump" possibly the heaviest of all tracks enters with a mammoth chugged out goregrind riff which blasts into a frenzy of ***ed up vocals and yet more original guitar and bass lines. I dig the vocal placement on this one, really weaving in and out adding to the heavyiness.

"Fun with fudge" has a hillarious intro. Actually the whole release has disturbingly humourous intros throughout(What more do you want it's Goregrind) Yet again some great riffs in this one that remind me of a upbeat kind of Eyehategod with that dirty dropped sludgey guitar tone, This one has the best bass drop at 2:35!

"Digesting dad's dirty dingers", "Sucking dongs to fund the bongs" and " "the smell my digits, they've been in midgets are the last 3 tracks on the cd and along the same style, blasting snare hits, groovy as *** riffs, low distorted bass and disgustingly wicked sick vocals. I could go into way more detail but just pick the damn thing up! its a ripper of a listen!

Overall i dig this release. What i love about it? The Originality, The creativity but the fact that if your into to this kind of music your still getting what you love out of it. Production is thick as hell, everything sounds so so huge but you can every flurry of notes clearly. Titles are sick! the sicker the better in my opinion, and the artwork matches the vibe.

Im excited for the new release, and cant wait to review it.
