Review Summary: simple things can seem so involved
pop-punk is lame, with exceptions, and this album is one of them, an exception. the reason for this exemption dances in your face early on during track one, stupid werld, about halfway through when the fairly typical pop-punk track devolves into guitar feedback and vox: "
when does push, come to shove?, ive felt nothing but a punch, a dirty look can say so much, all the cowards in this room, staring blankly at their shoes, i wish that there was more i could say to you" which is pretty cool, but then the feedback grows restless and explodes into what sounds like a child guitar drowning in a swimming pool, splashing around and crying for help that never comes. moments like this are spread throughout, catchy pop-punk laced with cool guitarments, sometimes giving off a
dinosaur jr. vibe. there are even guitar solos
also, there are a few bedroom 8-track recordings placed between the studio cuts, i assume to add variety, and it works very well. these songs are more laid back indie-vibers and obviously not as pretty to listen to but its nice to hear these guys stretch their creative muscles a bit and it doesnt really affect the flow of the album, at all. i dont think a full album of their studio cuts would sit nearly as well with me, because, well, pop-punk is lame, sometimes
