The Journey is the début album from The Oddyssey, a prog-metal solo project by Danny White. The album is a solely instrumental 30min piece made up of 6 parts.

Well... what else can be said other than this is an excellent début album which has an eclectic mix of different styles of music, of which many I only picked up on after several listenings. I get the impression that Dream Theatre may have been a particular influence on The Journey as there are some definite similarities in style.

My particular favourite “track” (I can’t think of a better way to describe the parts) in the overall piece was No. 4. “City in Ruin”. I believe that the full style and feel of the album is most completely represented in this track, and a damn good listen as well! This is, I believe, The Journey’s strongest track.

That being said there are a couple of flaws, one of them being is that some of the tracks flow seamlessly into one another and others do not. I think that it would have been an improvement if they all flowed into each other, especially as it is done partially well on the tracks that do. If this point seems very picky then it’s really because I can’t find much more to fault the album.

The Journey shows that The Oddyssey is still a diamond that’s slightly in the rough, not perfect (come on what début is?) but really bloody good nonetheless!
