Tremendous album from a great songwriter. I can't call him a singer as well, but his spoken
word/warble has an honesty to it. This album has his best storytelling, with the first
appearance of The Road Goes on Forever which became his most famous work. The Five Pound
Bass is a great joy of simple life song that is dynamic and so much fun. But the
centerpiece of the album for me is Mariano. A tale impoverished difficulty, immigration,
brotherly love, and understanding. A true Texas masterpiece of songwriting.
