Review Summary: Engage the hydrospannic stabilizer!

Rather than a tender jaunt through pastel meadows, The Anticurrent experience is more akin to lost in space while hunted by Xenomorphs. Inside the universe of synths, keyboards, strings, and vacuum of space ambience, guitar parts shred melodically, brutally, and averagely. My first impression had me disgusted by the production quality, and the muddy, slime tire guitars — the second time around I remembered my seatbelt. It’s good music but a lot to take in, equal parts distressing and entertaining. That stuffed atmosphere is not an escape, it’s a simulation of when I feel overstimulated. Usually I would listen to music when I’m overstimulated, but The Anticurrent provides no relief, only more incredibly blazingly loud black metal for punishing your delicate or hardened ears.

As the intensity and craziness continues, it is more fun than unlistenable. The growls are spacious and deep, with the high and low ranges just as blistering. More to note: the drummer drums like a robot, and the riff master most likely busted his pick. Black metal that doesn’t repeat the same crap over and over is this album, it excels in that way. However, an album of consistency, a comfort food release is not this one. In the end, The Anticurrent does not offer you a free massage, or complimentary restaurant meal with your space trip; it offers the terror of space combined with a cheesy atmosphere, and whipping riffing that will bruise. It may be too much for some, but those who can survive sci-fi show metal may be transported into its black hole for a return trip.

Ay ay ay pizza, this review reminds me of when papa Uni was trying to do the one review a day challenge and he was starting to burn out.

I think the album has a lot more to talk about, who are these guys? what about the featured singers? etc.

Also "Black metal that doesn’t repeat the same crap over and over is this album, it excels in that way. However, an album of consistency, a comfort food release is not this one."

This reads a bit weird to me.

“what about the featured singers?”

Ehhhhhhh like the album.

Yeah I really like this review in total, I didn’t have other things to say. I actually reread and proofread this review a lot of times and I’m very happy with how it turned out.

haha I'm not antipizza my man, all the contrary, I read all your reviews, it's always a good read, and that's why I pointed out the above. If I didn't care I wouldn't have said anything!

Didn't remember that Mars reviewed their debut three years ago, was just reading that.

But yeah idk, I'm really enjoying this. Side project of the Todtgelichter guy with Ne Obliviscaris' singer featuring the vocalist of Seven Spires, an ex-Cradle of Filth singer and more? very meaty!

Also piano keys and synths from outer space? fuck yeh.

Love you man, didn’t know you read ALL my reviews haha. I usually like spacey metal but this one didn’t do it just enough. I LIKE the album though, it’s pretty cool, but it could be replaced quickly for me.

The production could be better, I'll give you that, way too much reverb and that guitar tone sounds like a cheap amp plugin, but there's a lot of cool ideas here.

This is one of Xens(Ne Obliviscaris) many projects to come out this year by the way. I think he has one or two other side projects that are putting material out this year ontop of this and NeO. I think they locked him in a vocal booth for a while
