Review Summary: Recon comes through with a fairly generic, yet brutal album.

Recon comes through with a brutal, seemingly short album. I'm sure we all question if this is a full length or an EP. I'd say it's about in the middle. Nonetheless, Recon provides us with a brutal, breakdown-filled, 2 step maniac album.

Graves opens up with a quick, heavy intro. A generic, yet heavy breakdown(with gang shouts no less). Recon is very popular among the hardcore scene. This album was released before the sign to Rise Records. You'd have to believe that maybe, just maybe, Recon will change their sound after this album.

Now, what you need to know is that this album is either going at the speed of light, or it's a breakdown. The negative aspect is...all the breakdowns on this album sound particularly similar. Also, this album seems to have a very high metalcore influence. It's tuned in a low string. While this album is heavy, it doesn't provide for the highest diversity. Every song does not sound exactly the same, but close to it. The chugging of this album will keep kids dancing for hours.

One VERY different thing on this album are the vocals. They are very unique, in my opinion. They seem to have an Agnostic Front influence on them, and they DO provide for diversity throughout the album. Sometimes though...the vocals seem to overtake the rest of the instruments and put them down. Although this album does go from two step to breakdown to two step to breakdown, to each his own. Many people(including myself) enjoy this type of music. The drums are not noticeable throughout the album either, as they also get repetitive and do not seem very focused on in the album. The drummer does keep the band in order though, keeping a steady rhythm for the guitarists to go along with.

Positive Aspects
-Unique Vocals
-Heavy breakdowns
-Many two steps

Negative Aspects
-Not much diversity throughout the album
-Vocals seem to take over

Although, I will probably get flamed for rating this 5, just know I do understand why you guys hate it.

And regardless of how bland the album is and how repetitive it can be, I still love it for some reason.

I really feel it takes straight-edge beatdown music to the next level.
