3.5 great | yigruzeltil | June 30th 17 | While maybe not astonishing (at least not anymore), The Improvisation Meeting at Bar Aoyama documents (with - as far as I can hear - imperfect fidelity and some of the recordings seem cut-off before the actual ending of those performances) an early phase of the Japanese improv scene. These are baby steps compared to what was to come, but that also means it's more accessible and easier to get into. There are also bits of jazz-related free improvisation in here - the "onkyo" purity isn't there yet, but there are quite a few moments in which it is clear they are looking for something else.
