Every band that has ever played metal owes a debt to Sabbath in some way. From Iommi's riffs to Geezer's crushing bass, Ozzy's wailing vocals and Bill Ward's thunderous drums. This is Sabbath at their heaviest with 'Sweet Leaf', 'Into the Void' and 'Children of the Grave' among the best songs. |

The Boss powers through his first show on English soil. Showcasing the earlier part of his exceptional career and showcasing it to perfection. Highlights include the towering 'Rosalita', the epics 'Jungleland' and 'Backstreets' and of course the chillingly beautiful toned-down rendition of 'Thunder Road'. |
Bob Dylan Dylan | 1.5 |
Nick Drake Five Leaves Left | 5.0 |
Drake's debut and in my opinion it matches the brilliance of 'Pink Moon' although in a different way. Lonely music from a man who appreciated nature and the beauty it contains yet a man who never connected with people in the same way. |

Falling under the radar in the 70s due to the shyness of the artist in question. Simply a dark, chilling and depressive journey that gets better with every listen |

Not quite Dylan's best but in the top 3. Certainly has one of the best opener/closer combinations ever, with 'Desolation Row' possibly being the genius' best song. The rest of the album isn't half bad either. |

Jimi's debut and although in my opinion it's not quite as good as Electric Ladyland it's still as good as almost everything he put out in his lifetime. The obviously signature guitar-work is present and the best songs here have to be the obvious 'Purple Haze', 'Foxy Lady', 'Manic Depression', 'The Wind Cries Mary' and 'Hey Joe' |

This deserves a classic rating. One of the best debut rock/psychedelic albums of all time. Morrison's vocals are both majestic and mysterious, especially on 'The End', one of the best songs ever written. The Gaslight Anthem The '59 Sound | 5.0 |
An absolute joy to listen to and one of the best albums of the decade. Fallon's stories are at the heart of the music and it's te ability to relate so closely to them that makes this album one of my favourites. The title track recalls lost grandparents, and who hasn't been able to relate to 'Heres Looking at You, Kid' ? Anyone whose ever loved and lost can. Then there's the amazing 'Great Expectations' and 'High Lonesome'. Truly every song is amazing |
The Gaslight Anthem Handwritten | 4.5 |
In terms of quality of the songs this isn't as good as The '59 Sound however this is a 5 for me because of being personally able to relate to every single song in some way. That, to me, is what music is about. Being able to hear a song and instantly think its being played only for you. That is why this album for me is perfect. The beauty and relatability in every word of every song. |

Springsteen's first true masterwork and proof of a talent beyond his years. Sure, 'Greetings' was good but this blows it away and perfectly leads into 'Born to Run'. Highlights include the ethereally beautiful 'Sandy', the epic 'Incident on 57th Street', the gorgeous 'New York City Serenade' and obviously the titanic 'Rosalita', one of the Boss's best. |
Steel Panther Balls Out | 4.0 |
Panther follow their brilliantly hilarious debut with an album that almost matches it in terms of music and jokes. The toilet attitude hasn't become more childish or worn and still backs up the music. In all honesty trying to analyse this album is pointless, I like it and its funny and a good party album, best songs 'Just Like Tiger Woods', 'If you Really Really Love Me', 'Why Can't You Trust Me?', '17 Girls in a Row' and 'Weenie Ride' |
Bullet for My Valentine Fever | 3.0 |
If mainstream metal is your thing then you'll enjoy this. Personally it's a very 'meh' album by a band I dislike. Fuck you Matt Tuck, you're a prick. |
Bruce Springsteen Wrecking Ball | 4.0 |
The Boss hasn't sounded this good or indeed this inspirational since 'Tunnel of Love', his best album in years. The amazing title track is my favourite among others such as 'Land of Hope and Dreams' 'Rocky Ground' 'Death to my Hometown' 'We are Alive' and 'We Take Care Of Our Own'. The Boss is back and better than he's been in years |
Machine Head Unto the Locust | 4.0 |
One of the best albums of 2011 in my honest opinion and certainly Flynn and the gang's best so far, beating 'Burn My Eyes' and 'The Blackening'. The band add some progressive metal elements to their music and it's all the better for it. The title track is annoyingly catchy and along with 'I am Hell', 'Be Still and Know' and 'Who We Are' is among the best songs here. |
Soundgarden Badmotorfinger | 4.0 |
Soundgarden Superunknown | 5.0 |
An amazing musical journey capped off by one of the most amazing vocal performances I've ever heard on an album from Chris Cornell. One of the best albums of the 90's and possibly of all time including the brilliance of 'Black Hole Sun', 'Like Suicide', 'Fell on Black Days' and my personal favourite 'The Day I Tried to Live'. Amazing album. |

The little man with the big voice had a hell of a job to fill the shoes of the madman but my god did he do it well. The perfect album for the dark and depressed moods where you want to cut the head off every single person whose ever hurt you. Trent Reznor questions everything about humanity from religion ('Heresy'), society ('March of the Pigs'), sex ('Closer') and love ('Piggy') and beautifully crafts a mans self-destruction from beginning through to graphic suicide ('The Downward Spiral') and the reflection ('Hurt'). A harrowing journey that almost everyone can relate to and raises so many questions about existence. |

An album that is among the finest pieces of art that has ever been created. All the tracks are amazing but my personal favourite has to be the brilliant title track, but really I could pick any song from this album as my favourite. One of the first prog rock albums that along with Rush's 'Moving Pictures' and Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' is one of the best ever recorded., and something King Crimson would never match again. |
Slayer South of Heaven | 4.0 |
Slayer follow 'Reign in Blood' by slowing their sound down and adding melody to the brutal thrash that trademarks the band. Despite an unusual cover of Judas Priest's 'Dissident Aggressor' the album is pretty good, though I believe it's inferior to 'Seasons in the Abyss' and 'Reign in Blood' it's still a damn good Slayer album. |
Anthrax Fistful of Metal | 3.0 |

Priest's best album, pick any song and it will be a speed metal classic. From the amazing title track through to the epic 'One Shot at Glory' through the menacing 'Night Crawler' and the towering 'Leather Rebel', not including 'A Touch of Evil' and 'Between the Hammer & the Anvil' every song is simply incredible. This could be no other rating other than perfect. Amazing music |
Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance | 4.0 |
In my opinion Priest's best album of the 80s, similar to 'Sad Wings of Destiny' was for the 70s and 'Painkiller' for the 90s. A culmination of the bands musical journey up to that point. My favourites here are 'The Hellion/Electric Eye', 'Riding on the Wind', 'Screaming For Vengeance', 'You Got Another Thing Comin' and 'Fever' |
Oasis Definitely Maybe | 4.0 |
Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime II | 2.0 |
Queensryche Dedicated to Chaos | 1.0 |
Dream Theater A Dramatic Turn of Events | 3.5 |
Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory | 4.5 |
Slipknot Iowa | 3.0 |
Rage Against the Machine Evil Empire | 3.5 |
Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine | 4.5 |
One of the best debut albums of the 90s and possibly of all time. Zach De la Rocha's politically charged lyrics combined with a solid rhythm section and Tom Morello's inventive guitar make this an almost one-of-a-kind album. Best songs include 'Bombtrack', 'Killing in the Name', 'Bullet in the Head', 'Wake Up' and 'Freedom'. The slightly repetitive nature is the only thing keeping this from a 5. |
Rage Against the Machine Renegades | 2.0 |
Motorhead Overkill | 4.5 |
Badass .... Toss up between this and 'Spades' for my favourite Motorhead album. At this moment in time, I think it's this though |
Bon Jovi Lost Highway | 2.0 |
Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet | 4.0 |
KISS Crazy Nights | 2.5 |
Alice in Chains Black Gives Way to Blue | 4.0 |
Who could have guessed that after 16 or so years and the death of their frontman that Alice in Chains could come back and produce a album of this quality that matches any of their previous efforts in terms of quality. Proving that today they are arguably the most relevant grunge band. Layne would be proud |
Megadeth So Far, So Good... So What! | 4.0 |
Stupidly underrated, I can see why Dave's singing on this album would put people off but frankly it still sounds good. This album contains a great instrumental ('Into the Lungs of Hell'), the first track Dave wrote post-Metallica ('Set the World Afire') and Mustaine's personal tribute to Cliff Burton ('In My Darkest Hour') also one of the best Megadeth songs. Honourable mentions to some underrated 'Deth tracks 'Mary Jane' and 'Hook in Mouth' |
Bruce Springsteen Devils & Dust | 3.5 |
Rush 2112 | 4.0 |
Rush's 2112 isn't the flawless classic it's lauded to be yet its still an excellent album. The Canadian trio has better albums but this kick-starts the classic era. Essential prog rock |
Rush Hemispheres | 5.0 |
There isn't a bad second on this joyful album. Strong instrumentation, thoughtful lyrics and just plain fun make this an essential album for not only Rush fans and prog fans but music fans in general. 4 tracks of near perfection |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience Electric Ladyland | 5.0 |
My pick for the master's best album. It changes all the time but 'Crosstown Traffic', 'Voodoo Child', 'Come on (Let the Good Times Roll)', 'All Along the Watchtower' and 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' are some of the best of Jimi's short but memorable career |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience Axis: Bold as Love | 4.5 |

blink-182 Take Off Your Pants And Jacket | 3.5 |
blink-182 Enema Of The State | 4.0 |
Pearl Jam Vs. | 4.5 |
Pearl Jam get more aggressive on their second effort. Instead of trying to make 'Ten- part 2' they decided to make a faster, louder more hardcore album and the results, while not perfect, are still superb |
Dio Holy Diver | 5.0 |
Fuck it, this is a classic. Every track is fun and amazing and this narrowly beats Heaven & Hell as the little man's best album . RIP Ronnie James Dio. The Man on the Silver Mountain. m/ |
Skid Row Slave to the Grind | 4.5 |
Anthrax Spreading the Disease | 4.0 |
Meat Loaf Bat Out of Hell | 4.0 |
Slayer Reign in Blood | 4.5 |
Everytime this album is played a puppy gets run over and a scene kid dies. A great thrash album that arguably gave birth to extreme metal. There are some problems with it though, the vocals are suitably evil but annoying and its a bit repetitive. These are the only reasons this is not a 5, still a great album however. |
Motorhead Ace of Spades | 4.5 |
Rush Rush | 3.0 |
Nickelback All the Right Reasons | 1.5 |
Poison Open Up and Say... Ahh! | 3.0 |
Velvet Revolver Libertad | 2.5 |
Velvet Revolver Contraband | 3.5 |
Not bad, not bad at all but not amazing either. Nothing original or ground-breaking just good, fun hard rock. Sounds a bit like Stone Temple Roses though. Recommended tracks include 'Slither' and 'Fall to Pieces' |
Nirvana Bleach | 3.5 |
Oasis (What's the Story) Morning Glory? | 4.5 |
Alice in Chains Jar of Flies | 4.5 |
Amazing. Not as good a Dirt but absolutely amazing. 'Nutshell' will rip anyone with a soul to shreds. Depression never sounded so beautiful. |
Rush A Farewell to Kings | 4.5 |
Iron Maiden Somewhere in Time | 4.0 |
Sixx:A.M. This Is Gonna Hurt | 2.5 |
Bruce Springsteen The Rising | 4.0 |
The Boss saw the 9/11 attacks hit almost on his New Jersey doorstep. A place that he'd romanticised for years in his songs and stories and he felt compelled to write an understanding album. He reunited the E Street band and went about recording one of his best in years. The title track, 'Lonesome Day', 'Into the Fire', 'Nothing Man', 'You're Missing', 'Mary's Place' and 'My City of Ruins' are amongst my favourites here. The man can do no wrong |
Bruce Springsteen The River | 4.5 |
A great double album. The title track is an epic story of failed romance and nostalgia. Something that nobody other than Bruce could pull off, beautiful enough to bring a tear to the eye and yet rough enough to remind you life isn't always perfect. A great musical achievement by one of the best lyrical story-tellers to ever walk the unfair world. |
Bruce Springsteen Tunnel of Love | 4.5 |
The sound of a maturing artist and a man leaving his past behind. 'Tougher than the Rest' and 'Walk Like a Man' are examples of this. 'One Step Up' is my pick for best song here however, a haunting tail of an unhappy, volatile marriage that almost anyone can relate too, it has the ability to rip your heart to pieces. Including 'When Your Alone' and 'Brilliant Disguise' this album is possibly the most heartfelt of Springsteen's long and distinguished career. |
The Who The Who by Numbers | 3.5 |
Radiohead In Rainbows | 4.0 |
Rush Permanent Waves | 4.0 |
Alice Cooper School's Out | 4.0 |
Limp Bizkit Significant Other | 1.0 |
Limp Bizkit Results May Vary | 1.0 |
Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water | 1.0 |
Rush Moving Pictures | 4.5 |
One of prog's best albums by one of prog's best bands. My favourites are 'Limelight' and 'The Camera Eye' but you can't forget 'Tom Sawyer' and 'Red Barchetta' too. |
Foo Fighters In Your Honor | 3.5 |
Foo Fighters Wasting Light | 4.5 |
Kicks the shit out of 'The Colour and Shape' and is easily the best Foos album for me. So close to a 5. Some of my favourite Foo Fighters songs are on this including 'Walk', 'Bridges Burning', 'A Matter of Time', 'Arlandria' and of course the amazing 'These Days' pretty much every song is mainstream rock done right. Dave, you done good |
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin | 4.0 |
Not an amazing debut but a very solid one. All the elements that made Zeppelin great are taking shape, probably the most dated of the bands releases though. |
Ramones Rocket to Russia | 4.0 |
Ramones Road to Ruin | 4.0 |
Ramones Halfway to Sanity | 2.0 |
Ramones Ramones | 4.5 |
Ozzy Osbourne Tribute | 4.5 |
If 'Blizzard' introduced Randy Rhoads then 'Tribute' cemented his place among the best guitarists of all time. His classic influences are there for all to hear and Ozzy's vocals are some of the best of his career. A near flawless live album. |
Ozzy Osbourne Bark at the Moon | 3.5 |
Ozzy Osbourne Scream | 2.5 |
Ozzy Osbourne Black Rain | 2.0 |
The Beatles Rubber Soul | 4.5 |
The Beatles Abbey Road | 5.0 |
Arguably The Beatles' best album, which is like trying to decide the best sex position, you can make a case for all of them. This is my pick for the best though. No album can contain 'Come Together', 'Something', 'Octopus's Garden', 'Here Come the Sun', 'I Want You (She's So Heavy) and the Medley and not be considered among the best of all time. |
The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band | 5.0 |
The album that defined a generation, some say its overrated but I think it is among the Beatles' best work with only Abbey Road surpassing it. Simply one of the greatest albums of all time no matter how overrated it may be |
Van Halen Diver Down | 3.0 |
Van Halen 5150 | 4.0 |
It was hard for me to accept Sammy Hagar at first, being a Lee Roth fan but this record completely changed my mind. I now see this as one of Van Halen's best. |
Van Halen Balance | 2.0 |
Van Halen Van Halen II | 4.0 |
Def Leppard Euphoria | 2.0 |

How could The Beatles possibly follow Sgt Pepper ?? Simple. By making another masterpiece. Was there anything these 4 guys couldn't do ?? |
The Beatles Beatles for Sale | 3.0 |
The Beatles Yellow Submarine | 3.0 |
Steel Panther Feel the Steel | 4.0 |

The Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge | 1.5 |
The Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet | 4.5 |
The Rolling Stones Let It Bleed | 4.5 |
The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers | 4.5 |
A great Rolling Stones album capped off by the brilliance of 'Brown Sugar' and 'Wild Horses'. |
The Rolling Stones Exile on Main St. | 5.0 |
One of the best rock albums of all time. Coming during one of the best album runs by any band from Beggars Banquet through to Goat's Head Soup but this is the Stones best. Despite not containing any big hits the album flows and is the most consistent that they have produced in their 50 year career, timeless album |
The Rolling Stones Dirty Work | 1.5 |
Def Leppard X | 2.5 |
Motley Crue Motley Crue | 2.5 |
Motley Crue Saints of Los Angeles | 3.5 |
A welcome return to form for the Crue. About time too, The title track will surely become a Crue classic. |
Motley Crue Too Fast for Love | 4.0 |
Motley Crue Generation Swine | 2.5 |
Motley Crue Girls, Girls, Girls | 4.0 |
Where the drug problems really started affecting the Crue. Still an amazing album, but there are gaps in Nikki's songwriting starting to show, after this album they would clean up and produce the brilliant 'Dr Feelgood'. |
U2 The Unforgettable Fire | 4.0 |
U2 War | 4.5 |
U2's classic pre-Joshua Tree album epitomises their youth, energy and developing sound. Best songs here in my opinion are 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'New Year's Day' |
U2 No Line on the Horizon | 3.0 |
Queen Innuendo | 4.0 |
Contains Freddie Mercury's best vocal performance in 'The Show Must Go On'. The final completed Queen album with Freddie and with one of the most emotional songs of all time in 'These are the Days of Our Lives' which was Freddie's last video. I recommend watching it and it also has Queen's most progressive song since the 70's in the brilliant title track. |
Queen A Kind of Magic | 3.5 |
Queen News of the World | 4.0 |

Aerosmith Draw the Line | 3.5 |
Pink Floyd The Wall | 4.5 |
Pink Floyd More | 2.0 |
Metallica Death Magnetic | 3.0 |
Average in every sense of the word. Nothing at all spectacular but its better than Shit Anger. Not worth a 5 year wait at all however |
Foo Fighters Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace | 3.0 |
Foo Fighters The Colour and the Shape | 4.5 |
Mainstream, but who honestly cares when you can turn it up loud and rock out !!!!! |
AC/DC Blow Up Your Video | 1.5 |
Iron Maiden Virtual XI | 2.0 |
Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark | 3.0 |
Iron Maiden The X Factor | 2.0 |
Pink Floyd Animals | 5.0 |
They couldn't quite top perfection a second time. Though they came damn close. Another essential album by one of the greatest bands ever and a band at the peak of their creative powers with this album. However everything is still damn close to perfect- the political undertones, the Orwellian concept and of course the guitar and the lyrics. Another masterpiece, just not as good as 'Wish You Were Here' |
The Who My Generation | 4.0 |
The Who Tommy | 4.0 |
The Who Quadrophenia | 4.5 |
ZZ Top Eliminator | 4.0 |
Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime | 5.0 |
I'm really starting to love this. Prog metal at its best, a great story of murder, love and betrayal told very well throughout the album. My favourite tracks here have to be 'Eyes of a Stranger', 'I Don't Believe in Love', 'The Mission', 'Revolution Calling' and the title track. Possibly one of the most intelligent albums ever created. |
Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy | 4.5 |
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin III | 4.0 |
Led Zeppelin In Through the Out Door | 2.5 |
Aerosmith Get Your Wings | 4.0 |
Aerosmith Aerosmith | 4.0 |
Aerosmith Just Push Play | 2.5 |
Nirvana MTV Unplugged in New York | 4.5 |
An incredibly emotional performance by Nirvana and in particular Kurt Cobain. Sure they weren't the most talented band around but they did make the biggest commercial impact of the 90's and although Nevermind is overrated and In Utero contained some filler this live performance is near flawless. One of the best live albums of all time |
Nirvana In Utero | 4.0 |
Ozzy Osbourne The Ultimate Sin | 3.5 |
Ozzy Osbourne No More Tears | 4.0 |
Ozzy Osbourne Diary of a Madman | 4.0 |
Iron Maiden Piece of Mind | 4.0 |
Iron Maiden Powerslave | 4.5 |
I can't decide between this and 'NOTB' which is their best, it depends on my mood on a given day. '2 Minutes to Midnight' is one of the best songs here along with 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and 'Aces High' while 'Powerslave' is one of my favourite Maiden songs |
Iron Maiden No Prayer for the Dying | 2.0 |
Wait.... Maiden made a bad album..... Is Bruce there ?? Yes he is..... My God ...... (dies a little inside) |
Iron Maiden The Final Frontier | 3.5 |
Van Halen 1984 | 4.5 |
The last David Lee Roth- Van Halen album and its almost on-par with their brilliant debut. Songs like 'Panama', 'Jump', 'Hot for Teacher' and the great 'I'll Wait' are among the best Van Halen tracks. |
Van Halen Van Halen III | 1.5 |
Def Leppard Pyromania | 4.5 |
One of the best hair metal albums of all time. Simple as |
Def Leppard Hysteria | 4.5 |
Leppard's most successful album selling over 20 million copies. Given the accessibility of most of the tracks present I can see why. Best songs here are 'Animal', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Love Bites', 'Armageddon It', 'Rocket', 'Gods Of War' and 'Hysteria' |
AC/DC Let There Be Rock | 4.0 |
AC/DC High Voltage | 4.0 |
AC/DC For Those About To Rock We Salute You | 3.5 |
Alice Cooper Hey Stoopid | 4.0 |
Contains some of Alice's most underrated songs. The title track, 'Might as well be on Mars' and 'Burning our Bed' are some of my favourite Alice tracks ranking among the best of his career in my opinion. |
Motley Crue Shout at the Devil | 4.5 |
Motley Crue New Tattoo | 3.0 |
Bruce Springsteen Nebraska | 4.5 |
Haunting, simply haunting. Springsteen looks at his America and sees not the tales of hope he'd previously written about but tales of murder, betrayal, crime and loss. Title track is the story of a murderer who takes his wife for a drive and 'ten innocent people died' ends with the chilling line 'They asked me why I did what I did/Well I guess there's just a meanness in this world' other amazing tracks include financial ruin 'Atlantic City', brotherly loyalty 'Highway Patrolman' and loss 'My Father's House' also ends the album on a hopeful note with my favourite 'Reason to Believe'. Hauntingly chilling album |
Bruce Springsteen Born in the U.S.A. | 4.5 |
Not quite the Boss' best but in his top 5. This album is an anthemic journey through lost American ideals with most songs being written along with those that became 'Nebraska'. My favourites here are probably the title track, 'I'm On Fire', 'No Surrender', 'Bobby Jean', 'Dancing in the Dark' and 'My Hometown' |
Bruce Springsteen Darkness on the Edge of Town | 4.5 |
The Boss takes a long break after Born to Run because of a lawsuit and gathers his frustration and anger together in this album and creates one of his best. Pretty much every song here is enjoyable in its own way but my personal favourites are probably 'Badlands', 'The Promised Land', 'Streets of Fire', the haunting yet amazing title track and of course the immortal 'Racing in the Street', one of Bruce's best songs |
Queen The Miracle | 3.5 |
Queen Hot Space | 2.0 |
Though a Queen album can never truly be poor, this does come damn close. Only 'Under Pressure' and 'Back Chat' save it. |
Queen Queen | 4.0 |
One of my favourite debut albums ever. This contains all the early elements that made Queen one of the best bands of all time. Not as over the top as Queen II or A Night at the Opera but its still very good |
Queen Made in Heaven | 3.5 |
A fitting last album for Freddie Mercury. The album truly has its beautiful moments such as 'Heaven for Everyone', 'A Winter's Tale' and 'Too Much Love Will Kill You'. However there are inconsistent points too. |
Pink Floyd Atom Heart Mother | 3.0 |
Megadeth Countdown to Extinction | 4.5 |
Dave goes commercial and it pays off. Not as good as their earlier thrash albums but still a damn fine metal album. Best songs: 'Symphony of Destruction', 'Architecture of Aggression', 'Foreclosure of a Dream', 'Sweating Bullets', 'Countdown to Extinction' and 'Ashes In Your Mouth' |
Gary Moore Still Got The Blues | 4.0 |
Gary Moore Bad For You Baby | 3.0 |
Radiohead Kid A | 4.5 |
Haunting, melodic, beautiful. Not quite the brilliance of OK Computer but incredibly close. 'How to Disappear Completely' is amazing |
Alice in Chains Facelift | 4.0 |
Alice in Chains Dirt | 5.0 |
Fuck it I'm gonna 5 this. The soundtrack to self-hatred and life-ruining drug addiction, it hits you in the testicles with a great emotional punch. Some of AiC's best songs are on here including 'Them Bones', 'Rain When I Die', 'Rooster' a personal favourite of mine 'Angry Chair', 'Down in a Hole' and the brilliant 'Would?' that caps off this amazing album. Considered one of the best grunge albums for a reason. |
Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold | 1.5 |
Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare | 3.5 |
I actually like Avenged Sevenfold, not on a fanboy level, I can enjoy and appreciate their music and this is in my opinion one of the best albums they've put out so far. My favourites are probably 'Nightmare', 'Welcome to the Family', 'Victim', 'Tonight the World Dies', 'So Far Away' and 'Fiction'. R.I.P The Rev |
Radiohead Pablo Honey | 2.5 |
Radiohead The Bends | 3.5 |
Radiohead OK Computer | 5.0 |
Radiohead's best album and one of the best of the 90's and possibly of all time. Thom Yorke's haunting vocals cap off some sheer brilliance in songwriting. The best of which imo is 'Let Down' and 'No Surprises'. Also contains the so-called modern day Bohemian Rhapsody in 'Paranoid Android'. This is an album that needs to be heard to be appreciated. |
Bring Me the Horizon There Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It... | 1.0 |
Bring Me the Horizon This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For | 1.0 |
Bring Me the Horizon Count Your Blessings | 1.0 |
Megadeth Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? | 4.5 |
Megadeth Risk | 1.5 |
Sorry Dave, you got it wrong. This is Megadeth's 'St Anger' moment, luckily though they recovered. Hopefully the same will be said for Metallica, but not at the moment. |
Pink Floyd The Piper at the Gates of Dawn | 4.0 |
Pink Floyd Meddle | 4.0 |
Megadeth Rust in Peace | 5.0 |
One of the best thrash records of all time. Contains great solos and some pretty good if annoying at times (Dawn Patrol) vocals from Dave. If you don't like this then thrash isn't for you. From the brutal, technical mastery of 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due' through the chaos of 'Hangar 18', heaviness of 'Take No Prisoners', the best solo in the album in 'Tornado of Souls' and the brilliant closer 'Rust in Peace... Polaris' this album never lets up and proves Megadeth can match (and I believe better) Metallica on almost every level. |
Megadeth Endgame | 4.0 |
A welcome return to form for Dave and the boys, 'This Day We Fight!' is one of my favourite Megadeth songs. |
Black Sabbath Sabotage | 4.0 |
The last great Ozzy-Sabbath album. 'Megalomania' is one of the most underrated Sabbath songs in their whole discography. |
Black Sabbath Vol. 4 | 4.0 |
Aside from Never Say Die! and Technical Ecstasy, the worst of the Ozzy era Sabbath albums and yet its still good. 'Changes' needs some repeat listens but Ozzy's vocals do sound sincere and real, despite popular opinion |
Black Sabbath Technical Ecstasy | 3.0 |
Slash Slash | 3.5 |
Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath | 4.5 |
I think I'm starting to prefer this over 'Paranoid' in my opinion this sounds more inventive and okay, 'Paranoid' is one of the best metal albums of all time but I prefer the almost progressive aspects of this album. Whichever is best they're both still classics in Sabbath's career and in metal. My favourite songs here have to be the heavy as hell title track, 'A National Acrobat' which has some amazing lyrics and 'Spiral Architect' an almost eerie closer to the album. A classic |
Eagles On The Border | 2.5 |
Eagles Eagles | 4.0 |
A solid debut by one of rocks most popular bands. The best tracks here are probably 'Witchy Woman' and the gorgeous 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' along with the irresistible 'Take it Easy' |
Black Sabbath Paranoid | 5.0 |
Among the greatest metal albums of all time. Plenty have tried to imitate it, none have come close. The original metal album. 'War Pigs', 'Iron Man', 'Paranoid', 'Electric Funeral' and 'Fairies Wear Boots' all rank among my favourite Sabbath songs. Though slightly overplayed the impact and excellence of this album is undeniable. |
Black Sabbath Seventh Star | 1.5 |
If this was a Sabbath album it would be better. I'm an overprotective Sabbath fan and this is an Iommi solo record with the Sabbath name. It was never getting a high rating |
Led Zeppelin Coda | 2.0 |
Led Zeppelin Presence | 3.0 |
U2 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb | 3.0 |
Anthrax Among the Living | 4.0 |
3 Doors Down Time of My Life | 1.0 |
Eminem The Eminem Show | 1.0 |
About as entertaining as having your testicles chewed by a frog. Sorry people, I dislike rap |
AC/DC Black Ice | 2.0 |
Aerosmith Rocks | 4.5 |
Pearl Jam Ten | 5.0 |
One of the best albums of the 90's. One of my favourites of all time. Emotional, beautiful and yet hard-hitting. Vedder has one of the best voices of his generation. Songs like 'Even Flow', 'Release', 'Alive', 'Jeremy' and the stunning 'Black' make this certainly Pearl Jam's best album and one of the greatest ever. Hearing this album is an experience in itself. |
Pink Floyd A Momentary Lapse of Reason | 2.0 |
Metallica Kill 'Em All | 4.0 |
Metallica Load | 2.5 |
Uninspired but still enjoyable. If you take it for what it is then its a good hard rock album, but nothing compared with their earlier work. Some good songs but some really drag on and don't match the epicness of the earlier long tracks. |
Metallica Reload | 2.5 |
Metallica ...And Justice for All | 4.0 |
The Who Who's Next | 4.5 |
A great opener my favourite Who song in 'Baba O'Riley', one of the best rock songs of all time in 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. Not including 'Bargain', 'The Song is Over' and the amazing 'Behind Blue Eyes'. |
U2 The Joshua Tree | 5.0 |
I prefer Achtung Baby but this is still one amazing album. Sure Bono's political stuff gets on almost everybodys nerves but at least he makes some good music. Best songs to be found here are 'Where the Streets Have No Names', 'With or Without You' and 'Running to Stand Still' in my opinion. |
Metallica Ride the Lightning | 5.0 |
Metallica's second classic album and although it isn't quite as good as a whole album as 'Puppets' I think some of the songs on here are greater than those on 'Puppets'. For example 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', 'Creeping Death' and 'Fade to Black' are some of the best of their career. However the skippable 'Escape' makes this narrowly worse than 'Master of Puppets', still one of the best metal albums you'll find though. |
Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard of Ozz | 4.0 |
What could have been an awful attempt to imitate Sabbath turned into one of the best metal albums of all time. Ozzy's vocals have never sounded better, and the whole album is topped off by the genius of Randy Rhoads. A man taken before his time and one of the best guitarists of his generation. |
Bruce Springsteen Born to Run | 5.0 |
If you don't like this album then you don't like music. Simple. Springsteen speaks for the lonely and the unloved in ways that have never been equalled or surpassed by anyone. He truly believes in the characters created in his songs, 'Thunder Road' is a landmark in song-writing with some of the best lyrics ever written that narrate the life of a normal guy looking for his break in life. The amazing title track tells us we were all 'Born to Run' and the closing track 'Jungleland' is epic. Springsteen uses something we all have, hope and dreams, to create what is certainly one of the greatest albums of all time. I cannot praise this album highly enough. A masterpiece by a true genius. |
Iron Maiden Seventh Son of a Seventh Son | 4.5 |
Guns N' Roses Live Era '87-'93 | 4.0 |
A live album with some amazing moments and some 'why is that on here ?' moments. Such as a version of 'Patience' where you can barely hear the band over the crowd. They could have included 'Live and Let Die' and 'Civil War' too though. This does have its epic and amazing moments in a heartfelt rendition of 'November Rain' and a brilliant 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door'. |
Nirvana Nevermind | 4.0 |
Incredibly overrated, Sure it's good to listen to but every song is not the genius it's perceived to be by fans and critics. There is no denying however the impact of the album and in particular 'Smells like Teen Spirit'. However imo 'MTV Unplugged' is better and is really the essential Nirvana album. |
Skid Row Skid Row | 4.0 |
The ballads stop this from being a normal glam metal record, the likes of which were put out all the time during the 80's. This is one of the better ones. Briefly compared to Guns N' Roses and although Skid Row never hit those heights they would produce one of the better debut albums of the 80s. |
Various Artists (Punk) Punk Goes Classic Rock | 1.0 |
Metallica Master of Puppets | 5.0 |
Annoying as it is, this is one of the best metal albums of all time. Crushing thrash combined with slick melodies and although Lars is a twat who can't play drums and Kirk Hammet is overrated to shit and his solos sound the same, somehow the talent of Hetfield and the master Cliff Burton pulled them through to create this masterpiece. Best songs have to be 'Battery', 'Master of Puppets', 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)' and 'Disposable Heroes' |
Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood | 4.5 |
The Crue clean up, they're off the drugs and much better for it. This is easily their best release since 'Shout at the Devil' and while neither are perfect both are almost essential albums and proved that glam could be manly with the right band. |
Aerosmith Classics Live | 2.5 |
Aerosmith Get a Grip | 3.5 |
Pink Floyd Ummagumma | 2.0 |
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon | 5.0 |
It seems to be normal to claim this album isn't as good as its made out to be. However this really is one of the best albums of all time, regardless how many people think its overrated. Pink Floyd nearly made perfection with this album and then went and topped it with the near-flawless WYWH. The only band to top perfection since The Beatles. |
Michael Jackson Dangerous | 4.0 |
Michael Jackson Bad | 4.5 |
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath | 4.5 |
The album that started it all, the song that inspired so many artists to play heavier music. Sure Paranoid is given more credit for 'inventing' heavy metal but the song 'Black Sabbath' is just as important and influential. As well as the song this is still one of the strongest debut albums of all time. |
Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion I | 4.0 |
Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion II | 4.0 |
AC/DC Flick Of The Switch | 3.5 |
AC/DC Fly On The Wall | 2.0 |
Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast | 5.0 |
Regardless how cliched it is this album is Maiden's best. Despite a poor opener in 'Invaders' the album redeems itself with some of the bands best songs in 'Run to the Hills' and the title track. Plus some overlooked ones in the brilliant 'The Prisoner' and 'Children of the Damned'. Obviously the crown jewel in not just this album but possibly the bands career is 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' one of the best metal songs of all time. |
U2 Achtung Baby | 5.0 |
Though The Joshua Tree is more consistent I think this is a better album, it shows they can pull off several different styles. Plus 'One' and 'Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses' are two of my favourite U2 songs. |
Eminem Recovery | 1.0 |
Eminem Encore | 1.0 |
Nickelback Silver Side Up | 1.0 |
Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road | 4.5 |
AC/DC Highway To Hell | 4.5 |
Guns N' Roses G N' R Lies | 3.5 |
Guns N' Roses The Spaghetti Incident? | 2.5 |
Had this been an album of new material it would have been better, sadly this is not the case and some songs are forgotten GN'R classics however which save this from being awful |
Motley Crue Theatre of Pain | 3.0 |
Weakest of the classic era and yet it still contains 'Home Sweet Home' and 'Smokin' in the Boys Room' that just shows how good the Crue are |
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here | 5.0 |
The closest thing to musical perfection that is possible. This site kind of ruins it by praising it constantly but, for once, the praise is deserved. Every song on the album is a masterpiece and the guitar is some of the best you will find anywhere. Genius. |
Pink Floyd The Final Cut | 2.0 |
Queen A Day at the Races | 4.0 |
Possibly the worst of Queen's first five albums and this has the epic amazingness of Somebody to Love and Tie Your Mother Down....... Caaaaaan anybodyyyyy, fiind meeeeee somebody tooooo looooovvveeeeee |
Black Sabbath Born Again | 1.5 |
Black Sabbath Never Say Die! | 3.0 |
Not as awfully terrible as its reputation would suggest. There are some high points including the title track but nowhere near enough of them to make this a great or even good Sabbath album |
Queen The Works | 3.0 |
Queen A Night at the Opera | 5.0 |
The best Queen album that contains probably one of the best rock songs of all time. Queen have never been one of the more consistent bands, but this is a progressive masterpiece that is deservedly called one of the best classic rock records of all time. |
Queen Flash Gordon | 1.5 |
Scouting for Girls Everybody Wants To Be On TV | 1.0 |
The first album was slightly enjoyable-ish. This is just more autotuned crap that sells copies to little girls with nothing better to buy. |
Metallica S&M | 4.0 |
Aerosmith Classics Live II | 3.0 |
Aerosmith Toys in the Attic | 4.5 |
Aerosmith's break-through album and imo, their best. A pure dose of hard-rocking blues all the way through. Also contains some of the band's best songs including 'Walk this Way', 'You See Me Crying', 'No More, No More' and among the best of all time 'Sweet Emotion'. Forget 'Rocks', this is the essential Aerosmith album |
Aerosmith Done With Mirrors | 3.0 |
Aerosmith Pump | 4.0 |
Michael Jackson Thriller | 5.0 |
The best pop album ever, and I don't even like pop at all. There will never be anyone like Jackson again, like him or not, The biggest selling album of all time for a reason. Despite all his personal controversies and allegations nobody can deny the talent of the man, the title track set the standard for music videos, the paranoid and brilliant 'Billie Jean' and the hard rocking 'Beat It' featuring none other than Eddie Van Halen prove that we should remember this Michael Jackson, not the Michael Jackson the press portray. R.I.P |
Eagles Hotel California | 4.5 |
A very easy-listening album with some joyful music present. Highlights are obviously the well-known title track but the best song on the album has to be the beautiful 'Last Resort'. |
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV | 5.0 |
This is certainly a contender for Zeppelin's best album, however I think Led Zeppelin II is better. Can't deny the brilliance of this album though, in particular 'Stairway to Heaven' which people say is overrated, although I don't agree with its 'Best Song Ever' title it is certainly a masterpiece. |
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin II | 5.0 |
Nevermind IV or HOTH or even Physical Graffiti this is Zepp's best album. From the great blues riff of 'Whole Lotta Love' to the gorgeous 'Thank You' every part of this album is brilliant. Also contains one of the best drum solos in history 'Moby Dick' courtesy of a Mr. John Bonham, one of if not THE best drummer of all time. R.I.P. |
Queen Sheer Heart Attack | 4.5 |
Queen Queen II | 4.5 |
I've heard this called the "poor man's Dark Side of the Moon" though I can't see why really, Yes some songs in the middle are a bit bland but the epic tracks more than make up for it. 'The March of the Black Queen' is one of the bands best songs |
AC/DC Back In Black | 4.0 |
AC/DC The Razors Edge | 3.0 |
Nothing different to any other AC/DC album and yet some songs are still very enjoyable, even if you prefer Bon Scott. Best tracks include 'Thunderstruck', 'Money talks' and 'Are you Ready' |
Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy | 4.0 |
Insanely underrated, sure its not the hard rocking genius of Appetite but it does prove that Axl dosent need Izzy or Slash to make some good music. It moves from industrial metal through classic GN'R hard rock to piano based ballads. More consistent than either of the Illusions but not better overall. Not the most well loved album but I'm close to saying its worth the wait |
U2 All That You Can't Leave Behind | 3.5 |
Metallica Metallica | 4.0 |
The turning point for Metallica's career. Not as awful as some proclaim and yet not as amazing as the sales would suggest. This is an average album in the Metallica discography but amazing compared with what came later.. |
Metallica St. Anger | 1.5 |
Van Halen Van Halen | 4.5 |
A great rock debut album that introduced the world to a new guitar hero in Eddie Van Halen and an incredibly charismatic frontman in David Lee Roth. 'Eruption' is as good today as it was in 1978 |
Aerosmith Permanent Vacation | 4.0 |
A comeback album that does more than try and recapture the band's former glory. It succeeds and matches their previous efforts, maybe even betters them. |
Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction | 5.0 |
They came snarling from the gutter through the sea of sex, drugs and rock n roll and produced this. Kicked all the fake glam metal square in the balls in favour of classic hard rock and the blues. Sure its generic but it was never meant to be ground-breaking, it is a classic for exactly what it is. A brilliant hard-rock album capped off by one of the best frontmen (for about 5 years anyway) of all time. "Take that one to heart" |
