Off Road Minivan Swan Dive | 2.5 |
The new tracks are forgettable and lifeless. I really hoped to like this coming from their last
EPs. |
Noija Through Fire All Things Are Renewed | 3.5 |
Hollow Front Loose Threads | 4.0 |
Currents I Let the Devil In | 4.5 |
Currents The Way It Ends | 3.0 |
Much weaker than I Let The Devil In. I left disappointed because it seemed like with Poverty of Self they found a good niche. |
Torments Endless Waves | 3.5 |
Melodic metalcore with hints of djent. Pretty standard but still worth listening to. Cleans can be grating at times. |
Corpsessed Beyond Abysmal Thresholds | 4.0 |
Remaster of their 2014 LP that delivers the production quality that was missing. |
Bilmuri Bilmuri | 4.5 |
Corpsessed Abysmal Thresholds | 4.0 |
Dayshell Mr. Pain | 2.0 |
Just an album filled with nothing that is at forgettable at its best and cringe at its worst. Boring pop-influenced garbage.
Horrible: Kombat
Okay: Runaway |
Departures Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love | 4.0 |
Petroglyphs Ascension | 4.0 |
Sick vocals and some really interesting riffs/melodies (with very few cleans if you're into that). A couple tracks near the end are lacking but the LP is damn good overall. |
The Parallel (CAN) Weaver | 3.0 |
The generic growls really just ruin this. Thankfully I can just listen to the second half of this LP and ignore them. |
Rogue Anomaly | 4.0 |
Some of the lyrics are kinda cringe but this is some top-tier prog metalcore otherwise. The chugging/breakdown at the end of Divide in itself merits a listen. |
Corpsessed Impetus of Death | 4.5 |
Somehow, even though the song is over 10 minutes long, Starless Event Horizon maintains my attention throughout. This is honestly some next-level stuff. |
Weeping Hour Hunger and Thirst | 4.5 |
How does this not have more ratings lol this is fire through and through
Edit: Very christian band actually, who knew! |
Elitist Reshape Reason | 4.5 |
Heart of a Coward The Disconnect | 3.0 |
Abyssal (UK) Antikatastaseis | 4.0 |
Noctambulist Atmospheres of Desolation | 3.5 |
Our Hollow, Our Home Hartsick | 2.5 |
Can be really catchy during the choruses but the growls are the most generic growls you've ever heard. I can't even bring myself to get halfway through the album but if you aren't offended by the growls then you'll enjoy it. |
Kaleikr Heart of Lead | 4.0 |
Loses steam during internal contradiction and neurodelirium, but picks up again just in time. Vocals are next level. |
For the Fallen Dreams Six | 2.0 |
I belly laughed because of the breakdown in Forever. Uninspired, predictable, and flat out annoying at parts. It's kind of a shame that the screams are as good as they are. |
Novelists Noir | 3.5 |
These guys are so insanely talented. Sometimes their focus is a bit hazy (imo often coming off more in the "heavier" sections), but when they hit the mark they really kill it. They strike a balance between prog, metalcore, and top-tier cleans. Honestly, I feel like if they just ditched the metalcore altogether they'd be better off because everything else ties together so impossibly well. |
Dead Like Juliet Stranger Shores | 3.5 |
This sounds like something I've never heard before. Refreshingly upbeat and satisfyingly technical. I'm not a fan of chants but they pull it off. |
Erdve Vaitojimas | 4.5 |
Outre Hollow Earth | 5.0 |
Outre's innovative apocalyptic album never loosens its grip. |
Zhrine Unortheta | 4.0 |
Aepoch Aepochalypse | 3.0 |
Slugdge The Cosmic Cornucopia | 4.5 |
Gorod Aethra | 3.0 |
Celeste Nihiliste(s) | 3.5 |
Celeste Morte(s) Nee(s) | 3.5 |
Celeste Misanthrope(s) | 3.5 |
Celeste Animale(s) | 4.0 |
Tanuki The Fire. The Fear. The Fall | 2.5 |
Curses (USA) Chapter I: Introspect | 2.0 |
Thirty Seconds to Mars America | 1.0 |
So many songs on here sound like literally anything you'd hear on a christian radio station... how did they manage to fuck up their sound so much |
Defecto Nemesis | 2.5 |
Eastern High Garden of Heathens | 3.5 |
Not a fan of the vocals but some of this is too catchy to miss. |
Celeste Infidele(s) | 4.5 |
Rivers of Nihil Monarchy | 4.0 |
Departe Failure, Subside | 5.0 |
Departe absolutely nails a unique gritty, atmospheric, and melancholic sound. |
AVIIRA Relentless | 2.0 |
Dead Crown Come Hell | 2.0 |
Strangers To Wolves Lost Boys | 3.5 |
Let's just not talk about Here's to the Best... |
After the Burial Dig Deep | 2.5 |
Stories (AUS) The Youth to Become | 3.0 |
Slice the Cake Odyssey to the West | 4.0 |
Harmed From Day One | 2.5 |
Brojob Talk Shit Get Kissed | 1.0 |
Inferi (USA) Revenant | 4.5 |
Periphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal | 3.0 |
Without the initial novelty Spencer's vocal range, Periphery II misses more often than it hits. I think good examples of what they did well in this album were Facepalm Mute, Scarlet, and Mile Zero. The others, I have become tired of skipping over. |
Kardashev The Almanac | 4.5 |
The Almanac is a beautifully cohesive EP that manages to never lose your full attention. It's relaxing, powerful, and at some points chill-inducing. |
Sithu Aye Set Course for Andromeda | 4.0 |
Set Course for Andromeda is a prime example of how cohesive an instrumental album can be. It tells a very clear story but some sections (not entire songs) fall flat and listening becomes more of a chore at that point; however, there are some real gems in here, especially Set Course for Andromeda!!! It has so many different and interesting themes and tempos that are masterfully strewn together, and I keep coming back for more. |
Currents The Place I Feel Safest | 4.0 |
It's obvious that there is a specific sound they are going for here but they run a little too far with it and so the album feels like it blurs together sometimes. That said, there are too many killer tracks to ignore. |
Glasslands Pariah | 3.0 |
They have an interesting sound that sometimes they absolutely kill but it's wildly inconsistent from one song to the next. |
ERRA Impulse | 5.0 |
Thousand Below The Love You Let Too Close | 4.5 |
Insanely catchy and surprisingly aggressive. There are a handful of songs on here that I keep coming back to. |
Arkive Sonder | 4.0 |
They really seem to have found their sound. The vocals are much less abrasive and overall
there's a noticeable balance. Luminous is a masterpiece. |
Arkive Untitled EP | 3.0 |
Dude's voice is impressive but gets old quick. Nonetheless, I commend them for being able
to create songs this memorable on an EP this short. Even though it isn't perfect, Golden
Vines quickly became something that I keep coming back to. |
Silent Screams Hope for Now | 2.5 |
There's no defining sound and some songs are downright cringe-inducing. Going through the entire thing, I think Guiding Light and Hope for Now are the best signs that there is hope for this band in the future. |
Eternal Void Catharsis (Reissue) | 3.5 |
Some tracks are a bit bland and the clean sections seem uninspired but it's worth a listen. |
Heart of a Coward Deliverance | 4.0 |
Several of the tracks are interchangeable but Skeletal I and II are instant classics. |
Pridelands Any Colour You Desire | 4.0 |
The EP isn't really exemplary as a whole but Machina in itself merits a 4. |
Hollow Front Still Life | 4.5 |
Don't Fall Asleep, Backbone, Nothing Lasts Forever, and Still Life are really just as good as it gets. The others are pretty forgettable but don't take away from the overall quality of the album. |
The Healing Hollow Earth | 3.5 |
The choruses do well to create a memorable identity for most of the songs, and complement
the heavy hitting sections. Unfortunately, some elements that were chosen completely kill
the vibe of a couple tracks. |
Off Road Minivan Spiral Gaze | 3.0 |
If this were a review of the song Spiral Gaze instead of the whole EP, it'd be a 4.5. |
Thornhill Butterfly | 4.5 |
Expertly crafted songs. There really isn't a bad song on this EP. |
Monument of a memory Ex-Mortis | 3.5 |
If it weren't for Cold Eyes and House of Glass, this would be a 4. |
