good electroacoustic that works better as a supplementary listen than a standalone one. listened to this on the bus and
while walking downtown and it was a nice experience, as the city's accidental beauty meshed with the album's
attempted beauty in unexpectedly successful ways. but, it's a bit of a dull listen on its own. dunno if that means this
should be a 3.5 or a 2.5 so we'll settle on a 3.rhttps://shelterpress.bandcamp.com/album/damaged-

occasionally catchy, but mostly bloated and boring. bit of an odd mix of techno and electroacoustic methods. it starts off a bit slow and confused, but hits its stride at about halfway where the band's techno influence shines through, creating a worthwhile combination rather than a fiddly thought experiment. it could've been more cohesive overall I guess but it still bangs.rhttps://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/album/lumisokea-transmissions-from-revarsavr |

Piano-led jazz from Spain. Subtly paced and tender, with enough of an experimental component to keep things
interesting, but not so much as to lose sight of the evocativeness. Tracks like "Bosque adentro..." make it out to
be an electroacoustic wanderer. the song titles all end with the name of various poets (Yosa Buson, Jorge Luis
Borges etc), from whom Clara Lai seems to draw inspiration. many barebones piano-based compositions can
feel a bit sterile, but this is all done pretty tastefully. nothing mind-blowing, but nice.

Ukrainian math rock. pretty messy and ineffectual imo but i can see a lot of users fucking with this. the vibe is pretty
rough and jagged, sorta reminiscent of stuff like Don Caballero's What Burns Never Returns, but with a bit more of
a shamanistic undertone - there's this mystic ambience here and there. idk why i don't like it, but every bit of it rubbed
me the wrong way. probably a combination of the production, grating guitar work, and general aimlessness.

Kostadis Unleash | 3.0 |
thick, heavy ambient from Greece augmented by musique concrete. would probably pair greatly with a visual performance combining pitch black with sense-tingling, intermittent elements of light. the album itself is a good balance of eerie and groovy - dark soundscapes occasionally interrupted by minimal beats, suited to a dancehall where no one moves due to out-of-body enjoyment. I think.rhttps://kostadis.bandcamp.com |

surprisingly good Boston-based techno. really good balance between groovy and laid-back. nothing you haven't heard,
but well-executed nonetheless. plenty of little touches that pop out, making it a nice headphone experience. track 3 is
mixed a bit irritatingly, though. there's enough progressive elements to mix things up and create a sort of loose
extraterrestrial narrative, but not so much that it detracts from the visceral enjoyment. like a 2.9/5

good enough that i'm semi interested in whatever they do next to expand on their (promising) blueprint, but rarely does it stick out. a decent blend of shoegaze, industrial, and alt-whatever, but for the most part it sounds like HANL taking a leisurely stroll through the park. it lacks peaks and troughs.rhttps://chasmssf.bandcamp.com/album/on-the-legs-of-love-purified |

better than his string of This Is What I Do releases, for the most part. there's a bit of an interesting narrative buried
beneath everything, and Jason is great at taking concrete noises and accentuating them for extra oomph, but his
production on this is a bit lazy. there's an overlong rainfall recording, some chopped-and-screwed variation of The
Sweet's "Fox on the Run", and some other questionable choices. but, parts of the album are pretty thoughtful - there's a
vocal excerpt at the beginning of the second half that won me over a bit. a good portion of this resembles the tiring
effect of dealing with semi-interested people in a professional environment whose droll demeanours begin to have an
adverse affect on your own psyche - sorta reminds me of Office Space or something. My Machine builds an
interesting concept initially... but doesn't really capitalize on it. i suppose some of this might be inspired by his
answering machine or whatever but i couldn't be bothered to look into the backstory tbqh
tl; dr - probably one of his better recent releases, but check Much To My Demise or Songs About Nothing if
you want to get into Lescalleet |
Ekke Chasm | 2.5 |
decent IDM/techno/glitch with some electroacoustic play. feels like a bit of a mishmash of half-fleshed ideas though. really nice and crisp sounding, but wanders a bit too much. would be better if Ekke really honed in on a prominent sound, rather than aimlessly tinkering. still, the found-sound elements help this pop in places |

kinda disappointing. a lot of tension-building without much payoff. the final third of the album is good, but at that
point the momentum is kinda ruined. since the album was apparently inspired by eerie backwoods folklore, i was
expecting a more creepy story progression and some pretty sharp emotions (fear, confusion, despair, being lost,
etc) but most of this was a bit flat. there's some highlights ("Sun Tower", "the Rising Portal" and maybe "Orion is Dead"),
but a lot of forgettable material. |

sweet ambient techno. captures the arctic aesthetic, but pumps it with hard-hitting beats in the first half, and a
sense of introspection in the second half. the tracks on this double EP run about 8 minutes each for this first disc
and 20 minutes apiece for the 2 tracks on the second disc, but Polar Inertia pull off the lengthy structure without a
hitch. just enough nuance to keep it interesting, but restrained enough so the core appeal isn't lost. |

solid UK garage from The xx's Jamie Smith. would be better if not for a couple stray turds mucking it up. for the
most part, ear-tickling bass, some memorable melodies, lofty builds and neat background noises. the first half is
significantly better. "Stranger in a Room" is negligible and "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)" is comically bad, and
fucks up the
flow of the album. the first 4 tracks are rad, though. |

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma A Year With 13 Moons | 3.3 |
another lovely, versatile release from Jefre. he mixes drone with lush noise and even bits of musique concrete, creating an album that is both beautiful and unsettling. the album is fairly front loaded, as the first 2 tracks are - I'd argue - the highlights. the following tracks feel scattered and nonlinear, and often too short to flourish. still, it works. it feels like sequences of memories running rampant, painting a distorted picture resembling a ruined relationship and the resulting personal turmoil. it's not excessive in emotion necessarily - at times Jefre comes off as very detached and indifferent - but it does seem like underlying emotions are begging to seep through. needs a few listens to 'click', but when it does the result is poignant. |

sweet Russian skramz with a bit of noise and shoegaze influence. really nice balance of dour atmosphere and invigorating riffs, and both male and female vox. nothing groundbreaking, but it goes hard. 2nd and 6th tracks are both dope, but it's solid beginning to end |

The Mayor of Strawberry Hill A Great Offer | 2.5 |
decent field recordings, some of his musicality kinda ruins things though. the vocal sample on "IV" gets annoying af, for example. it's a pretty front-loaded album. I think he'd benefit from making it just a bit more sparse - piling on the excessive piano and effects makes it feel very congested. the tracks are also way too short, and don't have time to unfold into something worth exploring. |

not too shabby. I mean, the sound quality is awful and the lyrics are juvenile and useless, but I have a soft spot for this kinda style and it's short enough that I can get through it enjoying the subtle melodies and lighthearted vibe. I'd only rec it to fans of lo-fi bedroom shit though, like mah boi Yak over there |

Album is a mixed bag... you have some great stuff like "all aboard the Mary Celeste" but then useless crap like "and statues..."rNot a bad release, and tbh not a 'serious' one, but would be a hell of a lot better if he had a bit more focus. If you like minimal dark ambient there are some great moments on this |
Morning Effort I heard you the first time, it just wasn't funny | 3.0 |
not bad, reminds me of YFW-era Brand New plus some twinkly emo influence in the vein of Snowing, but not as fast-paced. If you're an emo fan with ~9 minutes to spare, give this a chance. recording quality is obviously weak |

Pretty decent pop punk, RIYL Joyce Manor, Modern Baseball. First couple tracks are pretty good, last couple are average. But hey, it's just an EP and these guys have yet to refine their sound. Hopefully a full length is in the works.. |

Pretty unremarkable math rock. It sounds nice enough, but isn't memorable and lacks any sort of depth that might make it worth exploring. This is the kind of instrumental math that would improve greatly with the addition of a vocalist, which speaks volumes of how mediocre it is |

decent instrumental math with emo influence... gets pretty repetitive and goes nowhere though. making this without vocals was a bad idea, as the instrumentals are way too repetitive to carry it forward. the thing sounds pretty same-y from beginning to end. the only somewhat interesting track is the album closer |

rich, fascinating freeform jazz. the saxophonists are unreal, and are collectively one of the most creative ensembles I've come across in a while. this piece of music manages to be animalistic, yet fiercely precise in delivery. an interesting listen, though I wouldn't recommend it to newcomers of free jazz |

the outdoor recording gives a cool feel to the album. the guy has a lot of talent, and is obviously great at sound engineering or whatever, but his vocal delivery is pretty obnoxious and I don't really like his songwriting style... I found this album pretty dry. a lot of cool elements here and there though. This album would be great to fall asleep to while sitting on a porch swing |

more consistent than his Abe Sandoval remix LP by far... I've heard better but can see this growing on me. but for
supposed 'harsh noise' this is pretty tame and not very climactic. it's nice if you're in a focused mood and are willing to
give undivided attention to every single little nuance, but it doesn't 'grab' me at all |
