The latest "final" album from Elvis Depressedly has a lot of good material, mixed in with a few too many tracks and the borderline unlistenable title track. What I wouldn't give to get an entire album in the style of On Earth.

Unironically Thrice's best post-hiatus release thus far. I think this could have done without the guest features, but it's otherwise a perfect reimagining of the original album. They succeeded at capturing the impeccable live sound that they've been using for the past 15 years. Seriously, every single track is noticeably improved over its original.

This feels like a return to the gorgeous polished production of Dangerous Woman, and I really think it suits Ariana best. Maybe it's that I didn't love Hello Exile, but these versions are mostly miss for me. For stripped-down renditions, they feel overproduced and lifeless. There's way too much echo, the drums might as well be a drum machine, and the acoustic strumming on some tracks is aggressively high in the mix that it's grating.

I really liked Schmaltz and this just blows it out of the water. The writing, the hooks, the vocals, the production... everything is so much tighter and powerful. Yes, the lyrics are all thematically similar, and yes, the vocals do walk the line between shouting and lamenting. That's the point. For me, those have always been the band's strengths. With Brave Faces Everyone, they have added that compelling musical element that was lacking at times in Schmaltz. This thing is straight fire front to back.

Cigarettes After Sex just got stoner rock pedalboards. Greet Death sound so massive when they want to be, but a lot of the album time is spent meandering through slower, quieter passages. This would be an easy 5 if they leaned into the heavier side like on Do You Feel Nothing. Edit: it's been over a year and I can't get this out of my head.

I get that they've done basically the same song for two entire records now, but they do it so well that I don't really mind. Laughing Death in Meatspace is absent here. They do get loud on occasion and it's awesome when
they do, but there's also a lot of drawn-out quiet instrumental mush in there that doesn't feel
like it's building into anything. At least the backup vocals are abundant. They're the best part
about this album.

Can't help but feel like this is a slight misstep. The National needed to play around with their sound, but Sleep Well Beast feels like a transition rather than a completion. Well, this is wicked cool. The Glassjaw and Fugazi comparisons are unavoidable, but there's more going on here. The production bounces between lo-fi hardcore, standard metalcore, and newer techno sounds to provide for a lot of variety, but more memorable is the vocal performance. I'm a sucker for the passionate, barely-on-key vocals in old post-hardcore and emo. Dyne Side's Emmanuel Costa-Maya nails it.

This is Parabelle's most predictable album to date. They do what they do rather well, and it's fairly catchy. I wish it were a bit more innovative and varied from song to song but the release of the rerecorded A Summit Borderline & A Drop in the Ocean songs make up for it.

I think some of Dustin's lyrics here might lag behind the band's music, but the music is sublime. Thrice have done something really special here by coming back from a hiatus to deliver possibly their best musical album to date. They kept talking about their equipment and search for a great guitar tone in interviews, and it's easy to see what they're talking about. They absolutely nail it there.

It's all great but nothing particularly stands out to me, sadly. It could be the production. This

to be lacking on Chaotic Neutral.

Fall Out Boy American Beauty/American Psycho2.5
Do you like Fall Out Boy? Their early work was a little too 'pop punk' for my taste, but when Folie a Deux came rout in '08, I think they really came into their own - both commercially and artistically. The whole album has a rclear, crisp sound, and a fresh varnish of pop culture idealism that really gives the songs a big boost. They've rbeen compared to My Chemical Romance, but I think Fall Out Boy has a far more comprehensive, satirical rsense of humor. In '15, Fall Out Boy released this, American Beauty/American Psycho, their most raccomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Centuries", a song so catchy most people rprobably don't listen to the lyrics - but they should! Because it's not just about the pleasures of being famous, rand the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself! Hey Futures!r

Everything about this album at first glance bores me. It doesn't have an exciting sound. There's no angst or edge. It's not confessional or deeply personal. And in spite of all of that, it's incredibly well crafted and a very pleasurable listen.

This what the skit at the end of Deftones' Pink Cellphone sounds like when made into a full album. As for the lyrics: more vague than Breaking Benjamin, more cliche than Nickelback.

I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn't. The songs seem extremely overproduced and devoid of any real emotion. It's very dry and the only thing keeping it from being 3 Doors Down is Brandon Saller's voice, which seems like the only focus this album ends up with. Even "Find the Time to Breathe", which Saller made a demo of and released on Youtube, ends up being a boring mainstream rock song.

Single Mothers Single Mothers3.5
Crossfade We All Bleed4.0
Very dark and emotional (with the exception of a song or two). The instrumentation is great (especially the drumming on Lay Me Down). Personally, I just love the sound of the album. It's so dark and different from every other rock band. There are couple radio-friendly songs, but the chord progressions and lyrics touch a darker place that most bands can't reach.rThe range of the album is also great. There's some heavy metallic songs as well as some slower acoustic songs. I wish they could've used fewer electronic elements and brought in some screaming vocals, but for a band that was off for half a decade, it's definitely more than I ever expected.

If you're listening to album with a song titled "Kick Ass", you're gonna have a bad time.rMotley Crue would be able to get off with something like this, but Egypt Central can't and doesn't. There are a couple good songs, but overall, the album is disappointing.

I don't think I've been enamored with Manchester Orchestra, but boy is this a solid indie rock album with memorable songs front to back.

There's a couple songs I'm going to skip and there's a couple songs that I can't stop listening to... seems to be the case with most mainstream rock albums these days.rSure Feels Right, Deadlihood, and Help Is On the Way are my favorites, and Skin is beautiful

I think this is the first metal album I ever got into, so I'm still attached to some of the songs. I don't care what people say, "Blow" is fun to listen to, especially if you don't like the band. For Lead Sails Paper Anchors, it really comes down to what you're expecting. This is basically a pop-punk meets nu-metal album. The pitch correction can get very annoying though.
Sixx:A.M. Heroin Diaries Soundtrack4.0
Very memorable and emotional album. It has a little of everything: acoustic ballads, intense rock songs, some radio hits, and commentary throughout. The lyrics fit extremely well and blow most contemporary rock bands out of the water in that category. Van Nuys never gets old.

This was my favorite album for a good while. Why? Because it captures the emotions of falling in and out of love and moving on in such a way that you can remember that first love as if you were there. There are so many different melodies in this song, and each member shines in his own. Kevin Matisyn's unique voice is the most earnest I've ever heard in music. A Girl and a Cross, Eclipsed, and Dark that Follows are perfect.

Metallica Master of Puppets3.0
Here's the thing about this album. There's a reason it's called Master of Puppets. Everything in that song is basically expanded in other songs in the album.rI heard the song Master of Puppets before listening to the album, and my initial reaction was, "So Metallica found a way to increase the length of one song into a full album."rMaybe it's only fair to say that because the song has so much in it, but it really seems like there's not much reason to listen to the whole album if you only have to listen to one song to experience the whole thing.
