It was all building up with experimentation. So many recent Strokes records differ from the usual garage rock formula, and as time went on, Julian Casablancas, kept on getting weirder and weirder with his songwriting and techniques - taking 80's synth and pop rock to uncomfortable lengths for many beginning Strokes fans. Come 2014, Casablancas finally let loose with everything to make a record he was happy with and to keep changing from his debut solo album, Phrazes for the young. Tyranny is a wild mix of psychedelic trickery and lo-fi punk all blended into a spiral of emotions and the usual "don't try too hard" attitude. Casablancas' gives his voice more breathing room for new tricks and continues to challenge himself and his audience with a thickly dense record that will definitely turn off some, but whether it's in the 10+ track, "Human Sadness", or the dark chaotic wall of sound that is, "Take me in your Army", there's plenty of replay value as well as lyrical and emotional evaluation to be found in the fun and dark, Tyranny. |

Very quick, very fun, fuzzy, garage rock with some poppy hooks. Hope to hear an lp from these guys soon, sounds promising. |

going to try and get a review in for this shortly. Pretty fun pop rock with an artificial vintage tone spread throughout the entire production and image. An improvement, but it feels forced, from Drake Bell. |
