Evergrey From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits4.0
Great compilation of live tracks, piano versions, and demos. I am, however, still scratching my head at the title when there is nothing here from their first record The Dark Discovery. It would?ve been fitting to have something from the early days.

The more I’ve listened to it the more it’s grown on me. Best record since Hymns.
Kid Rock Bad Reputation2.0
Flaw Revival1.0
As someone who stills supports Through The Eyes as the greatest record of its era & type, I am shocked at how poor this release is. The covers are terrible and the band--for some unknown reason-- re-recorded two of their classics ("Get Up Again" and "Only The Strong") into weaker versions of the originals. Everywhere about this record reeks of desperation. Yikes.
Dustin Lynch Blue in the Sky1.5
Everything wrong with modern "country." Totally soulless.
Korn Requiem3.0
Evergrey Live: Before the Aftermath4.0
Tom's voice is starting to go (as expected
with age and the number of performances he's
put on), but the band's playing is phenomenal
and very tight. Jonas' drum tone in particular
is outstanding; he breaks the mold and has a
powerful, grandiose sound which is a change
from the compressed sound we are accustomed to
in modern metal. All in all, a great
performance with songs from all over their
discography.

2021
Black Label Society Doom Crew Inc.3.0
As expected- all the riffs, song structures,
melodies, etc., are eerily similar to ones
we've already heard 100 times previously.
There is no passion or risk taking here. But
it ends up mildly good since Zakk knows his
audience.

Still trying to mix pop and metal and sounding confused af in the process. A band clearly in it for cheap money and not at all for the art. Gave the 2.5 only because two songs were catchy ("Wildfire", "House of Cards").

This band is so confused as to what they even are. At times they sound surprisingly powerful and metal, and then there are flat-out trashy pop songs. The only constant is laughable lyrics. I still think this band actually has potential, but right now it's still a convoluted trainwreck.

Ruined every song on here. Yngwie loves slinging mud at former singers to the likes of Jeff Scott Soto and Ripper Owens....but what Yngwie fails to realize the quality of the music greatly diminished when he took over vocals. Also, Yngwie doesn't even attempt to portray himself as a true artist and creative mind anymore. The mindless, droning shredding is devoid of any careful thought. Truth be told I was only able to listen through about half the record - but I'm sure I didnt miss out on anything in the other half. What a shame; I still respect and enjoy Yngwie's early material.

Wasn't crazy about the album initially (and a little disappointed to be honest), but the more I listen my opinion changes for the better. Love that they added in more keyboards and there are concurrent themes throughout the album and that it feels like 1 complete piece rather than a random collection of songs; the first time I've been able to say that since In Search of Truth and Inner Circle.

Locke has some great riffs and ideas, however, the album as a whole is a bit tedious to get through. I suspect within the context of a full band Locke could be quite successful, but the majority of this record doesn't have enough punch to keep it interesting. Locke reminds me a lot of Keith Merrow; both are solid Metal musicians and deserve respect for their material, but neither are great enough to be truly memorable as a one-man project.

This is a straightforward modern Metal band that is fun to listen to and has a major propensity for getting your head bobbing; don't expect anything truly unique from them though because the riffs and everything else are basically rehashes of things we've already heard from other bands. The 1st half is much stronger than the 2nd half, but overall still a fun album.

High in skill and precision; low on songwriting. The leads are absolutely brilliant, utilizing many different styles and techniques, however, the backing music is incredibly generic. Even his world-class playing can't mask that defect for an entire album. Paul easily convinces us he's an elite talent in shred, but ultimately this suffers from the same faults of Jeff Loomis' records- it's too repetitive and too boring beyond a few songs.

Vinnie Moore is the focal point of this album and puts on a fantastic blues-inspired performance that does include some faster solos which Vinnie has become known for. Great classic rock riffs, overall solid songwriting, and no shortage of solos. "Stranger In Town" concludes the album, which is probably the strongest track on it.
Vinnie Moore To The Core3.0
Vinnie Moore not producing up to his capabilities, again. Album is very forgettable and largely not very interesting. Needs to stop trying to be Andy Timmons and just shred.

Pretty ironic that Yngwie's album Magnum Opus is nowhere near his best. The vocals on this record leave a lot to be desired, and are sometimes just downright annoying. Ygnwie is good but also nowhere near his best; a decent album, nothing more. "Crossing The Line" is great though.

Symbolic is a cornerstone of the genre and every metalhead should know this album inside and out. As is true with everything Chuck Schuldiner was involved with, this album kicks ass and is truly timeless. RIP.

Letter X Born Into Darkness4.0
Born Into Darkness is an excellent 80's-style mainstream "metal" record; skillful clean vocals, power chords, solos, and catchy choruses. Frankly, the band isn't overly impressive in any realm and their song writing is largely predictable, but it doesn't stop the album from being successful. Don't expect to have your mind blown; rather, expect to enjoy the record for it is- mainstream Rock 'n Roll that is easy on the ears and fun to listen to. Overall, a great record for its genre.

Songwriting in itself is not impressive. Songs are not memorable and not well thought-out; but in the end, Vinnie Moore is Vinnie Moore and his playing alone makes the album quite good.

A few excellent songs mixed in with mostly average ones. Many sections on the album sound more like jamming than meticulously thought-out pieces where they were trying to achieve something specific. Overall the album is good, but had the potential to be much greater.

Album seems so uninspired when compared to Mind's Eye. Many of the solos are similar; in fact, I even remember Vinnie re-using the solo from "Shadows of Yesterday" somewhere in one of these songs and just tweaked the timing of it. A decent album that is not on par with what Vinnie is capable of.

An incredible work that is very reminiscent of prime Queensryche, except I'd consider saying this is possibly even better. NoTrap recommended me this album and damn was that boy ever right about it. '80s Power-Prog is so damn underrated and the album proves it. "Painted Skies" is a trve jam.

Candlemass Nightfall5.0
Joey Tafolla Out Of The Sun3.5
Tafolla does a great job putting together all the elements of 80's-style shredding; that however, is the album's shortcoming- it's clearly dated to its era and isn't interesting enough to be relevant today. This album sounds noticeably similar to Vinnie Moore's 1987 masterpiece Mind's Eye, except not as good. Never the less, the last 3 songs are especially enjoyable, and this is a quality album for its time.
