I do admit I rated this album higher than what I would really give, but I appreciate their efforts in giving out a really good collection of songs. This album has a lot of filler tracks, knowing that some songs were already written before Kurt's arrival. But I don't mind. In this album, I treat Cory and Kurt's vocals as instruments. Kurt was intently made to shine here, and I just hate that.

It took me a few spins to avoid being bothered by the vocals. It was awful of me to listen to this EP first out of their whole discography. It may be true that his vocals may give polarized remarks, but this is definitely fine. This unfortunately short EP grew out on me. And for those who are bothered by his vocals, listen to their first post-hardcore-laced releases. It won't be much of a bummer there. Then sooner, you'll appreciate him well.

Unlike bands that fail to cohesively mix genres, Thursday has impressively fused ambient, post-rock instrumentation along with post-hardcore atmosphere, topped with Geoff's heartfelt and improved vocals. They really have proved themselves to be one of the pillars of post-hardcore.

The album is named after the Ouroboros symbol, which is a dragon or snake figure depicted in full circle consuming itself. This represents continuity and the cycle of power, emphasizing the theme of reincarnation, an idea propagated heavily by the band during promotion. Melding eastern with western sounds feels like a hard thing to do, yet our Japanese friends Dir En Grey have perfected this style. A lot of world instruments were utilized, and still doesn't sound overwhelming. This is possibly one of the best albums ever made by a very innovative band.

Investing on the visual aspect, the lyrics truly create a rich story which I guess everyone knows right now. The instrumentalists are extremely talented, Claudio's vocals attract me in a way (in little doses), and the lyrics are well-written. In this album, nothing is traded off, it is catchy yet still proggy. Seldom can we see a hardcore album to be critically successful, but alas, Converge has done it with their most famous masterpiece Jane Doe. With the intelligent lyrics, and insane acrobatic instrumentation, Jane Doe has altered a whole genre, proving that it should be at the top. Some may be put off by Jacob's "pig squeals", but it just needs a little time to get used to it. I recommend to listen to Homewrecker, and the two Phoenix. Really, a brutal and angry album.

Relying heavily on samples, the songs are still very cohesive, and another good thing about Daft Punk is they make a lot of their samples themselves. The solo on Digital Love is my favorite part. Truly a classic album for electronic music. Also great for club music!

This album is usually recommended when one asks for a jazz-influenced metal album. Some say this is prog metal, while others coined a different term "jazz metal". Both can be right, elements of both can be found: progressive rock/metal is reflected in some song structures and occasional odd-time meters, while jazz influences are evident in some harmonic and rhythmic phenomena. The trading off of death grunts are vocoder vocals is quite attractive. Every aspect: lyrics, instrumentation, vocals are too advanced for their time. I recommend you go to Cynic Sphere to learn how to play every parts. A very influential album for the Prog Metal genre.

Despite exploring the theme of absence, and the fact that recording sessions were very problematic, Wish You Were Here feels like a very complete epic album. The title track is definitely one of my favorite tracks by this band. The centerpiece track Shine On You Crazy Diamond also shares a lot of awesome moments. Definitely a tight musique concrete, the electronic soundscape serves as the cornerstone and the guitars add flavor to the mix. All 5 tracks I say are amazing and wonderful.

Expecting the band to fall out after the leaving of principal member Syd Barrett is a very wrong notion. The Dark Side of the Moon has proven that Pink Floyd's silly experimentation will make sure that they'll survive. The ridiculous usage of household objects, mixed with advanced production is the band's staple to make this album big. Every track is amazingly done, yet the highlight for me is the non-lexical vocals heard at The Great Gig in the Sky, and the tracks Money and Us and Them.
