An interesting effort that starts off promising and falls short throughout each track. There is however a noticeable amount of progression and definitely a step up from past material. There is also a more clear vision of where the band wants to head in and through further refinemenent and composition, BTBAM have the potential to craft a superb album.

An extremely overrated album from a band that knows how to play their instruments but lack the ability to compose and structure songs accordingly. The vocals are also one of the worst from the genre with little to no diversity. This isn't a terrible album by any means, but is often highly praised for creativity in which this band does not have. There are moments throughout the album which stands out but is often ruined by a sudden change of poor execution which can end up ruining songs. This album opens up an entirely different direction for Post-Metal and experimentation general. In an essence, this a fine representation of an Oceanic counterpart, a release that realized CoL's own potential, striving for an ultimate expression. This is not to say CoL wasn't already a talented band, far from it. But the tone set on Oceanic's release and the well established Neurosis sludge-fused post-metal pushed this band to their very limits and release a masterpiece that we've come to know as "Salvation". Following a theme of Big Brother-like government surveillance where control is absolute; dense walls of sludge and percussion will crush your skull and sooth you with hypnotic melodies and ambiance. This album doesn't try to be anything it's not. It is to be taken in and absorbed as a world clinging onto the idea of freedom and the desperate hope for some form of salvation. As years pass, the execution of climatic crescendos will stick in your brain, a perfect balance between light and heavy, exploring waters that had at until this point, been left undiscovered.

The structure of such songs is now found widespread in the average post-metal band as Isis's influences have carried on ever since. This album gave ISIS an identity, an identity that many other bands hopelessly look up to. A classic in the genre and one of the best 2002 releases.
