The Men Campfire Songs | 3.0 |
Deer Tick Negativity | 3.5 |
Eyes Set to Kill Masks | 3.0 |
The Flatliners Dead Language | 3.0 |
Decent album but I would still like for The Flatliners to go back to playing ska plz and
thx. |
God Is an Astronaut Origins | 3.0 |
The album is alright but it's kind of getting annoying that their music is no longer an innovation of the subgenre but is now a fairly predictable nich? form of it. |
The Weeknd Kiss Land | 4.0 |
Katatonia Dethroned & Uncrowned | 3.5 |
What these alternative versions of the tracks from Dead End Kings show, with the drums "dethroned" and the guitars "uncrowned" (according to the band), is that a handful of these tracks are actually very boring without really heavy instrumentation used for their composition. The ambiance and acoustic guitars are a nice change though. They bring out a side of the music that definitely wasn't as prominent--though definitely present on Dead End Kings. |
Gorguts Colored Sands | 3.0 |
Modern Life Is War Fever Hunting | 4.0 |
Kreator Dying Alive | 4.0 |
Meshuggah Best Of Meshuggah | 4.0 |
iTunes did a decent job of compiling Meshuggah's best work. This by no means has all of their best songs but it's a fair survey of their discography. |
Rosetta The Anaesthete | 3.5 |
Not bad, typical Rosetta. There's nothing different or new here it's just another really good release. |
Norma Jean Wrongdoers | 3.5 |
Dead in the Dirt The Blind Hole | 3.5 |
The Civil Wars The Civil Wars | 4.0 |
Madchild Lawn Mower Man | 3.0 |
This guy needs to innovate his style. He's incredibly consistent and it's causing his music to become predictable to the point in which it leaves the listener uninterested in his music. |
The Reign of Kindo Play With Fire | 3.0 |
Yea they use a variety of instruments on this album and it's a well-defined cross between
funk, jazz and alternative rock, but there isn't a whole lot going on during each verse.
They are actually quite repetitive. Some tracks aren't, but the majority are. There's also a
lot of overly glossed pop influence on this album and it makes it difficult to take the
music seriously at all. What I've heard on this album sounds like their style is just
becoming a gimmick now. |
Chimaira Crown of Phantoms | 3.5 |
This is surprisingly really good. Why? Pretty much: RIFFS! |
Deadlock The Arsonist | 2.0 |
They are successfully getting progressively worse. |

Kalmah Seventh Swamphony | 3.0 |
So Kalmah are back to making music that's composed like songs from Swamplord, They Will
Return and Swampsong. The problem is that the music sounds recycled, as if I have heard it
all before a hundred times over on my iPod already. That's because I have. I've heard it on
all of their aforementioned past releases. The difference now is that the music isn't new;
I've had a long time to digest it. As a result, "Seventh Swamphony" is boring to me. |
The Black Dahlia Murder Everblack | 3.5 |
Deafheaven Sunbather | 4.5 |
Hans Zimmer Man of Steel | 4.0 |
The self-titled 28min track that comes with the deluxe limited edition of this soundtrack is really really really good. |

Dark Tranquillity Construct | 3.5 |
Satan Life Sentence | 3.0 |
There are some pretty great tracks on this album but a lot of them fail to deliver and have consequently offset the overall quality of the record. |
Thirty Seconds to Mars Love Lust Faith + Dreams | 3.0 |
The album is hollow and mundane--albeit compositionally pleasant--futuristic pop. The
potential of 30 Seconds to Mars is not represented by this piece. EDIT: also, lol wtf is up
with the track Convergence? |

There are some really catchy songs on this album but it's too generic and spacey. I really wish that these guys didn't break so deeply into indie pop. |

Hugh Laurie Didn't It Rain | 4.0 |

and has more interesting transitions and developed clean vocals. |

Chosen Resolution | 3.5 |
There's no doubt in my mind that the instrumentation and the vocals are great, and so too is
the recording quality. By all means I would normally give music like this a higher rating.
But Resolution just does not form within me any emotional attachment. Which is why I
am not going to obtain the album, and maintain the rating I've given it here entirely out of
respect for the hard work that was put into creating it. |
Persefone Spiritual Migration | 4.0 |
Wow the technical synchronicity is absolutely nuts! |
Essence (DNK) Last Night of Solace | 4.0 |
Though the melancholy thrash-heads will disagree, this is a really great thrash album and deserves more interest. |
SCVRS Living Vicariously Through Chaos | 4.0 |

Sevendust Black Out the Sun | 4.0 |
Yea okay I am satisfied with this being their last album. I am REALLY enjoying listening to this record! |

This is definitely an album built on standards of this style, but with the best of today's doom metal conventions. |

The instrumentation is generic and the lyrics are naively emotional. So what's good about this album? Well, everyone is tooting the fact that it is well produced but LOL okay, that has little to do with the actual band. If they released the demo version of this album I doubt it would be this well dressed up. |
Big Chocolate Clean | 4.0 |
The Spinto Band Cool Cocoon | 3.5 |

This album was recorded perfectly and is a beautiful piece overall! The Civil Wars truly
gave a performance that may be considered even better than their studio recordings. It is
now on my list of musts for this year to see them in-person perform live because of thise
session. |

I just wasn't feelin' it with this album. In order for me to enjoy it as much as I have releases by other indie duets like Of Monsters and Men, Armistice & The Civil Wars I would have to fill in the gaps of disappointment with delusional satisfactions based on my own expectations prior to actually listening to the album. |

Katatonia Dead End Kings | 4.0 |
This was the 4/5 that Night is the New Day should have been but wasn't. I am glad this album turned out to be so creatively written! |
Just Like Vinyl Black Mass | 3.5 |
A lot of the hooks used on this album are very neat and technical. I was actually surprised as to the skill displayed with some of the riffs. The lyrics are refreshing and have some insight to them. However, the album is still a conventional post-hardcore release and really hasn't done much to change the quality or standard of the genre's output. Albeit that may be the case and independent of that caveat, this is still a great album and is really enjoyable. |

Hans Zimmer The Dark Knight Rises | 4.5 |
Nas Life Is Good | 4.0 |
Beneath (IS) Enslaved by Fear | 3.5 |
The concept for this album is just another bullshit fantasy concocted by minds that cannot fathom profound lyricism or dynamic and meaningful visuals. However, the instrumentation is pretty good and overall makes this release highly satisfactory for death metal aficionados. |
Chrome Waves Chrome Waves | 3.5 |
Calabrese Dayglo Necros | 4.0 |
I am thoroughly satisfied with this release, their best to date! |
Dekoder Between The Waking And The Dying | 3.5 |
Nile At The Gate of Sethu | 3.5 |
Gojira L'Enfant Sauvage | 3.5 |
Neat album but it isn't as great as their last couple of releases. The band focused way too much on utilizing those nifty hooks that they have been using since Terra Incognita and some songs like 'The Fall' are really boring. The best track on the album is 'Pain is a Master'. If the second half of the album didn't pick up the way it had then I would have given this a 3/5. |
Your Memorial Redirect | 3.5 |
Tawny Peaks Tawny Peaks | 3.0 |
A lot of the clean guitar bits are really beautiful and have a great tone similar to that of Suis La Lune's 'Riala'. Unfortunately the album falls short when it comes to energy and I found my interest fading throughout various tracks. Cool release but these guys need to step it up a bit. |
The Taxpayers God, Forgive These Bastards | 3.5 |
Icarus the Owl Love Always, Leviathan | 3.5 |
Okay so this album is pretty good but the instrumentation isn't as fantastic as everyone here says. Bands like Children of Nova, Terminal, Carousel Kings, InMe, and Letlive have all released albums recently that are equal or better than 'Love Always, Leviathan'. So unless everyone here is listening to absolute garbage, Icarus The Owl have achieved the current standard for pop punk/post-hardcore music. |
Stockholm Eyes in the Dark | 4.0 |
Coldplay and The Killers had a baby together and Stockholm is that baby! This is like the epitome of every 80's indie rock/pop act ever but done better than the vast majority of releases that could arguably fit into said style. |

This is a solid album and is easily one of the best OSDM throw-backs to have been released lately. |
Lights Out Asia Hy-Brasil | 4.0 |
Fear Factory The Industrialist | 3.0 |
Maybe it is because I have been alive for a while and still recall anticipating the release of 7 of their albums but I found this to be absolutely nothing special. This album is just Fear Factory playing the same recycled material that they have been playing for years. |

I'm a big fan of the albums Twilight of the Idols, and Incipit Satan, but I

solid live album but it still leaves a lot to be desired. |
